Today was our first full day in Luang Prabang Laos. I got up and walked around the morning market while Steven visited with his family. We all then went to see the Kuang Si waterfalls and had a picnic along a river on some property owned by Steven's cousin. The waterfalls were very scenic with cascading pools of blue water flowing downstream. We then headed back to the hotel were just long enough to get ready for a BBQ with Steven's family and friends at a friends house. Should be fun!... read more

Here is our blog from yesterday.... Today we had our final breakfast at our Bali Niksoma hotel and left for the airport on our way back to Kuala Lumpur. We arrive at Kuala Lumpur airport in the evening and despite plans to take the train into town, exhaustion and rainy weather kept us at the hotel. The hotel - the Kuala Lumpur Hilton is very nice. We suspect it is mostly used by business travelers as it is much more expense account friendly than average traveler friendly. (In other words, it is a bit pricey.) Nonetheless, the rooms are great and we stayed for free by using our rewards points. Thank you Hilton Honors program! Tomorrow we will have to get up at 4:00 am in order to make our flight out to Vientiane, Laos. Steven ... read more

We wanted to post this blog last night, but the travel blog server was down... Here is the blog from yesterday.... Today was our last full day in Bali. Steven endulged in a Balinese massage and lounged by the pool most of the day while I went for a walk around town. We then had dinner at our hotel as it was putting on a sunday buffet with a Balinese dance show. What a pleasant way to end our stay here. After diner, we watched the final fith set of men single Australian Open final. Tomorrow we are heading back up north Kuala Lumpur for one night, then catch a flight to Vientiane, Laos. We will miss Bali. I had heard so much about Bali before coming and looked forward to figuring out why so many ... read more

Our second full day in Bali started with breakfast at the hotel and then off to our all-day tour of the Ubud area as well as Ulu Watu. Ubud is the arts & crafts area of Bali about and hour and a half from the beaches of Kuta & Legian. Along the way we stopped off at a few shops where Steven bought a wood carving of Bali dancers. We then visited one of the famed terraced rice fields before heading to central Ubud for lunch. After lunch we visited the central market where Steven bought another wood carving and then headed to Monkey Forest where some aggressive monkeys shook people down for bananas. The whole area is very green and very tropical jungle. After Monkey Forest, we headed to Ulu Watu to see the Kecak ... read more

Ok, so we arrived in Bali last night in a down-pour. Bali is a bit hard to figure out at night. All these little narrow alleys with motorcycles flying by from all directions. A little un-nerving until you get the hang of it. We arrived around 9:00 pm and checked into our hotel. We were a bit disappointed with our room as it was quite dated and felt more like a camping lodge. We are not really campers. To make matters worse, our room also included a few unwanted guests which Steven unintentially killed as he rolled over in his bed in the middle of the night. Being a bug-a-phobe, I had a sense about it before even going to bed and put up my nifty little travel tent. While I slept comfortably in my own ... read more

We woke up this morning in KL and had breakfast at our hotel. The Impiana hotel is nice and very centrally located. Everything seems to be a 10 minute walk from the hotel. We stayed with this hotel chain in Phuket last year and it was very beautiful hotel. We then walked to Menara Tower and went to the top tower and took some pictures to see the whole city view. We then walked to Petronas tower to take more pictures since it's nice and clear today. We had Gelato ice cream at the Surin KLCC mall at the bottom of the Petronas twin towers before heading back to the hotel to pack. We were very impressed with KL as it is so clean and efficient. After visiting some of the more chaotic cities of southeast ... read more

Well we left Phuket early this morning and arrived in Kuala Lumpur around noon. It was a short flight (only an hour 25 minutes) but very much a different world. Kuala Lumpur is a very modern city with an impressive transit system. The Train from the airport to downtown was very nice and relaxing as they played soft music in the background. The people have been very friendly and helpful as well - even more so than in Thailand. Once settled into the hotel (Impaina), Steven and I headed out for the Petronas Towers and then on to KL Little India and Chinatown. We had some great Indian food in a local hole-in-the-wall. Only $5 dollars for both of our meals. We then headed toward Petaling Street in the heart of Chinatown. Petaling Street was very ... read more

Today we took the ferry from Phi Phi Don to Phuket and then a minibus to Patong Beach. We were sad to leave Phi Phi but we are ready to move on to our next destination. We walked around Patong to see if there were many changes since we were here a year ago. Steven got a Thai massage from the same lady on the beach that he did during our last trip here. She still remembed Steven and the two of them chatted while Steven got his massage. Tonight, we will go out to sample some of Patong's infamous nightlife. Our day in Phuket brings to an end the fun-in-the-sun portion of our vacation. Although we are going to Bali and that too is considered a beach location, we are planning to spend most of ... read more

Our final full day in Phi Phi was a lot of fun. We started the day walking again to the viewpoint since the tide had come in and Tulum bay looked beautiful. We then came back and lounged at the pool before heading out on a 1/2 day sunset tour of Phi Phi Leh. The tour was actually very relaxing. We did some snorkeling in front of Phi-Ley bay. There were so many fish and coral - it felt like we were swinning through an aquarium. We then went to Maya Bay for sunset. Tomorrow morning we will get up early to board the ferry to Phuket. Steven is looking forward to a Thai massage on the beach in Phuket. The stop in Phuket will be short as we head out to Kuala Lumpur the following ... read more
