Geo: 50.1183, -122.954The Peak to Peak Gondola was calling today. Mindy had organised the Sightseeing passes for us so that we could visit Whistler and Blackcomb .Again, we had enjoyed the experiences in summer but the beauty of winter is undeniable. The trees that we had marvelled at in summer were buried deep in relentless white drifts of snow. The slopes were dotted with skiers and boarders and there wasn't a bear to be seen anywhere. The ride in the G1 takes approximately 30 minutes to deliver you to The Roundhouse. It is very cold and visibility is quite muted because of the fogged glass. The wait today was no more than 5 minutes and we were cacooned in the Perspex bubble with two young gung-ho boarders who were planning their next series of jumps, somersaults and ... read more

Geo: 50.1138, -122.95The rhythm of Boxing Day seems to be the same the world over. A very lazy day for the non workers. A bit of a late morning, some concerted effort in clean up and dealing with the leftovers and then just so many choices around how to do absolutely nothing.Anthony and Ian had a sit-in at The Aspens and watched back to back episodes of Blindspot. Mac and Michael watched back to back premier league football (Arsenal did not return the required result) and I did back to back loads in the dishwasher and then concocted the most AMAZING turkey, pork, ham, pumpkin, potato, broccoli soup!Served with lashings of garlic bread and toast it was the perfect pre and post game snack for the homebodies and will be recycled again tomorrow for something.Mac and ... read more

Geo: 50.1138, -122.95No sleep-in for us. It was a welcome to a Merry Christmas with a 5.45 am piercing alarm to announce it was time to get up and put on the warm clothes and head for the G1 Gondola. Our plan was to get there for the queue at 6.30 am. We missed that by 45 minutes....Mindy and Ian had to retrace their steps because they had forgotten the passes. So armed with our Fresh Tracks breakfast tickets and ski passes (or in my case, Sight Seeing Pass) we joined the line at 7.10. The pressure here is that The Roundhouse has a limit of 650 for breakfast. I did a quick count along the line. We were about 400th in the queue outside....with an unknown number already in the Gondola zigzag race...probs at least another ... read more
Looking happy to be awake and queued

Geo: 50.1139, -122.95Fresh tracks again. Ian, Anthony and Michael up and on the mountain early for the first run at the powder. A great breakfast and some terrific skiing in the Whistler Bowl. Show no fear! Everything is possible. And Anthony even had time for some pics. They are enjoying the powder and with Ian's local insights manage to get the most out of each day's riding. And, as always, the mountain adventure concludes with a hot tub plunge.Pamela dropped in this morning to top up the fire stores and to ensure that we had everything we needed. Her daughter Merielle was her off sider. Winter Olympic Champion from 2014 in the Ski Cross - we were in e company of a super star. Unfortunately she didn't volunteer to take any of the troops out for a ... read more

Geo: 50.1137, -122.95This could almost be a Mac blog report because I've got nothing.Seriously spent the day watching the snow fall. It was mesmerisingly beautiful and so simple. Guess it compares with watching the waves roll in on the coast. We do have the added bonus of watching the icicles grow. They creep longer and sharper, drip by drip and could seriously be classified as deadly weapons! And out amongst the snowflakes today was one little squirrel who made such a determined effort to steal the scarf from around Frosty's neck. He worried at it for about 30 minutes but couldn't beat the knot. Mindy wanted to untie it and give it to him as a reward for trying so hard.Ian took Anthony and Michael up onto Whistler Mountain to catch some powder. Went to the peak ... read more

Geo: 50.1139, -122.95The day couldn't start early enough for Mac - he was up and at 'em so that he could get kitted out ready to hit "Magic Mountain." He is a man of rituals...has to have juice, vitamins, read paper, check posts before the day can start....not today...all rituals abandoned in the clamour to hit Blackcomb Way and meet up with Mindy on her first day off since our arrival ...in fact her first day off in weeks.Mindy assembled all the necessary bits....skis and poles from one shop, a pair of ski pants from another, helmet from somewhere else and googles from her "last season" box in the unit. And as if Mac wasn't funny enough, Ian was hysterical. He has never been on skis before and he was even practising the crazy boot walk up ... read more

Geo: 50.1138, -122.95Woke up this morning and the first thing of note was "No snow overnight!" And it did look very different. Rather than a crisp freshness, there were lots of trampled pathways, footprints and on the roads and pathways, dirty, slushy icy snow.Ian and Mindy were both at work today. Anthony hit the gym. We just lazed and talked our way through the morning, while stirring a super pot of pea and ham soup until Mindy popped in around noon for lunch.Best joke of the day was on me. We were trying to book LAST year's Christmas present for Mindy and Anthony.....a dog sled ride.(couldn't do it last year when Anth was here because there was NO SNOW).Mac was doing the research and it looked as if everything was booked out till mid January. Geo: 50.1137, -122.95The sun has not revealed itself yet. Each day is filled with the white light of snow reflection, but you don't actually get to see the sun. It snowed generously overnight again and the first messages came through at 8 am from Mindy declaring it a snow day - but it fell on deaf ears here because Anth didn't emerge until 10 and Mac stumbled out of his bear cave close to 1 o'clock in the afternoon!Given that the sun sets at 4 does make for a very short day.....for he who shall remain nameless. So while Papa bear slept away the winter I tried out some of the household appliances. Got to use the washing machine, the clothes dryer, the hair dryer and the coffee machine...all with varying degrees of success. Big FAIL on ... read more

Geo: 50.1183, -122.954The big event today is to dress up like Santa and ski the day away. Alternately, you can dress however you like and watch the Santas.Unfortunately you have to be awake and on the mountain before 9 o'clock. Mac and I didn't quite make it. But Anthony and Ian did and they shredded the mountain (and Anthony's Santa suit). Their 7.30 early start (in the dark we believe) got them free lift passes for the day (that's $109 here). They joined with dozens of other early bird Santas and then stayed in costume all day. They were a hit of course and had themselves featured on everyone's social media pages and in The Quest newspaper and of course are the stars of their own super hero gopro feature film. (Footage pending ). And ... read more

Geo: 50.1183, -122.954We woke this morning to a picture perfect winter view framed by our floor to ceiling bedroom window - a view of fresh fallen snow blanketing the paths and trees with a backdrop of the crystal fingers of stalagmites slowly dripping water suspended from the eaves. It was breathtaking. Can't say that we woke ourselves. There was a pounding at the door at just after 9 and Mindy and Ian were there ready to go. We were sound asleep so Mindy and Ian dropped off their gear and headed out for breakfast. The fresh snow was just too good to resist and they returned in an hour to get Anthony kitted out and on the mountain. The plan was to ease into the rhythm but Ian ran into some mates who insisted that the snow was ... read more
