With limited sleep last night as I was excited about seeing Rowena and Australia, I was up at 7am. I spent a few hours packing up my bags, add to my blog etc. Tracy and I ventured out to one of the malls for our last meal in Hong Kong together L. We settled on an Udon restaurant, with nice thick noodles, yummmmm. Eating with a knife and fork again is going to seem very strange! After a few hours we jumped on the bus to the airport – this takes about two hours as it’s located on the other side of the country. It was a sad to say goodbye to Tracy after the last five days. I have had soooo much fun exploring the country with her and she has been the perfect host! ... read more

Jumped on the bus around midday and headed to Mong Kok – the area famous for all the Hong Kong markets. Both Tracy and I were quite hungry so we headed straight for lunch in a back street traditional noodle café. We had dumplings – prawn balls in a big bowl of soup and noodles (think those noddle soups in wagamamas). It was what I would describe as a ‘locals’ café, and I did get shot a few quizzical looks by fellow dinners as a westerner walking in which was quite amusing. It was the kind of place you love to go as a traveller, seeing the real working side of a place, but would never go. Guided by Tracy’s expert knowledge I have been lucky enough to have many of these experiences which have made ... read more

Had a nice lazy Monday morning so I had chance to sort out my blog and catch up on some emails etc. In the afternoon we head to the mall on Tracy’s estate to post some bits I don’t need for a while to Oz and purchased the steel toe cap boots I require for the fieldwork in Oz…hmmmmmm not quite as nice as my coral colour Ted Baker heels at home! For lunch we went for Dim Sum - small bite-sized portions of food like dumplings served in small steamer baskets – we had prawn, beef with herbs (a bit like a meatball), pork and prawn mixed, fish, prawn spring rolls and then a mix of a slice of fried fish stomach, chicken, ham and crab all wrapped in one parcel. I enjoyed the Dim ... read more

Well what can I say, a night out in Hong Kong is rather epic. All the bars are together or one street then you go up a lift to a higher street to the street of clubs – well there are steps but that wasn’t an option with the size of Tracey’s heels! The most bizarre part of it all is that, when you get to central, everybody goes to the 7/11 shop, buys their alcohol and then walks round the bar/club street drinking until they decide which to go in! This felt very strange as the one thing you don’t do in the UK is drink out on the streets! Once settled on a place we headed inside and partied the night away in style, and were provided with much entertainment courtesy of people's crazy ... read more

Amazing to see Tracey! We headed to her flat on the bus, dumped my bags and headed out for some food. Had a lovely chilled evening chatting and catching up. Hong Kong is alot more than I expected....today Tracey and I headed down to Tai O on Lantau Island, where we visted the fishing houses which are built on stilts in the water. Wondered through tiny streets of markets full of fish and sea food, from live to dried, pickled to fried...however you fancy it really! Walked round the village and checking out the beautiful views of the coast and the crazy stilts the houses are supported by. Thoughout the day we ate alot of traditional food of the area which you can't get in the main city including....... Butsigo (like a jelly/curd with black beans ... read more

Had the pleasure of a taxi to the airport courtesy of Dad and John as they are flying out to Saudi Arabia this morning from Terminal 5. After a quick goodbye and drop off at T5 we head over to T3 and before I know it I’m waiting to check in. Made a few phone calls to the family and mooched around departures, mainly to source some half decent looking fruit for my lunch but with limited success. Most of you know that one thing I try to avoid at ALL costs is sitting still. If that means running between places to ensure I get there on time because I’m scheduled so tight, so be it – it beats wasting time doing nothing! So a 12 hour flight was going to be a challenge, but I ... read more
