Gabby the motorhome parked up last night on the Erw Lon campsite near to Llandovery. A fairly small site less regimented than a Caravan and Motorhome Club site. No pitching up to the white peg, no demands to park the right way and cheaper by some way. We were on a serviced pitch with water and electricity. The site was fairly busy and there was a little road noise which we soon got used to. The toilet block had been awarded the loo of the year in 2007 (if I remember accurately) and there were tidy single showers and wash rooms and some family rooms . The family rooms sadly were a little untidy . Not the problem of the room or the owners just the person who used it before us left bits of toilet ... read more

Today had never been in the planning. It was going to be castle day. There were three locally that we had pencilled in. This afternoon we planned to visit the Red Kite Feeding Station. Gabby the motorhome had other ideas. Driving her with her heavy clutch had given Glenn a very sore knee which was making walking a bit difficult. Instead we ended up at St Fagans. Now that meant a lot of walking. An outdoor museum full of reconstructed buildings that had been saved and rebuilt in the grounds. Houses and buildings from all over Wales. A sort of Blists Hill meets Eguisheim folk museum. Gabby was parked up on a fairly empty car park. £5 for a car to park up all day. Free entry to the museum. Opposite us was a rough patch ... read more

Thich Nhat Hann says "Each moment of our lives, each moment that is given to us to live, we have to live very deeply" Not a bad philosophy. We have decided this week to do just that. Strata Florida was no Jumiege nor a fancy abbey but it was a very lovely place to while away an hour or two in the beauty of the Welsh countryside. Gabby the motorhome is parked up almost correctly lined up with the white pin on hardstanding at the Brecon Caravan and Motorhome Club site. It is expensive. £26 for one night and it is very regimental. You know what you get with them - a neat pitch, your own little slot , grass to put your chairs on, immaculate toilets and showers and tuggers. Yes tuggers - many of ... read more

The sun was beaming down kindly on us. The sky an endless blue. The hillsides lush green after the endless summer days of rain. Gabby and the crew were parked up on hardstanding outside Strata Florida Abbey. Glenn had driven miles down narrow country lanes to get us here. Miles of winding roads that took us through tiny hamlets with a handful of houses. The odd centre of habitation passed through but nothing major. Pink Foxgloves lined the roadsides. Farmers farmed sheep. We felt as if we were home here in Ceredigion. We arrived too early at the abbey. The gate was open and one car parked halfway across the entrance. This proved to be the cleaning mopping out the toilets. Being too early meant we could get out the caffetiere and brew up the coffee. ... read more

Gabby the motorhome is parked up on a free car park in the middle of Welshpool or to give it its welsh name Y Trallwng. Thankyou Powys council for being so kind to give us this free overnight spot within walking distance of the town. Welshpool wasn't treating us like lepers. The car park was huge with spaces for a couple of hundred cars. At the top of the car park a number of cars were parked up. We guessed it was the local bowling club and the members stayed there until around 10 when they drifted away. A few cars were parked at the Poundland shop. Shoppers popping in and out over the evening. It looked like we were in for a quiet night. Hold that thought . How did we end up in Welshpool? ... read more

It was dark when we woke. We could see nothing through the sky light. The camp site was quiet as the grave. Well it was 5.30 in the morning. The alarm had woken us up and we were ready for our last breakfast in France. I do the last minute jobs in Gabby. I swung the captains seats round, I pulled the blinds down and let what little light there was in. Glenn went out and unplugged the electric and then we were on our way. We like Guines. It is one of those campsites that we can get out of early. I frightened Glenn to death when I thought that the gates were shut. They were open so we headed off for the train. The journey for the tunnel was uneventful and I vowed to ... read more

Who would have thought it? A decent nights sleep on the equivalent of Cheshire Oaks. Gabby the motorhome had her last day in Germany and after breakfast was heading home. We wondered if we would be able to get home easily due to the roadworks but the sat nag proved it worth and negotiated us back to the autobahn. We could see the reason for our delay yesterday. The German government had invested heavily in renewing the roads and this one was a case in point. Not only had they scraped the surface off for retarmacing. They had taken every layer down to the subsoil and were starting again. Even the bridge had been demolished and was in the process of being replaced. All went well as we sailed past Frankfurt airport. In the short distance ... read more

It is bedtime and I am not a betting woman . Apart from the odd flutter on the Grand National or a sweep at work to pick the winner of Strictly Come Dancing I rarely bet . However, I bet tomorrow the Works of Fiction the weather forecasters will offer us more rain, more dampness and more cold. They can be pretty accurate at times and totally wrong at others so what will tomorrow bring.? What happened to the long range weather forecasts we used to have? . More technology now available and yet the writers of the Works of fiction get the forecast wrong many many times. Were they wrong when we woke up? Nope, rain again. Damp again and down right cold. As we ate breakfast any thoughts of going east to Bratislava went ... read more

Was Vienna just as I remembered it? No it was not and I don't really know why. I have this vision in my brain of a busy city full of buses, trams and horses. They were all there in abundance. It was a dice with death trying to cross the roads sometimes. Crossing the tram lines, missing the oncoming trams and avoiding the horses and carriages and cyclists. That was the same as 20 years ago although I imagine there are more cars there today than there were last time I was here. 1998 or 1999 I cannot remember accurately. It was cold . The fountains were cloaked in wooden overcoats to keep out the cold and prevent them freezing. They were uncloaked today. It was still cold though and raining. I remember the impressive white ... read more

Good day - that's how the conversation in the small washroom began. We have not seen many Brits during our travels so it was strange hearing English spoken so naturally. The accent though was from someone from a land down under. I turned round to see a man and his wife carrying a huge bag of washing. My Australian friends told me that they had flown in to Holland three weeks ago, picked up their hired van and had meandered thi had called into Amsterdam and Koblenz , followed the river , entered Austria and had spent yesterday in Saltzburg. They needed a washing machine as the hire van only had one set of bedding. This needed to last another three weeks. I had washed my clothes, taken them out of the washer and struggling to ... read more
