Hi everybody! I am done with my travelblog. I suppose a travelblog is supposed to be done while you are actually away so that everybody knows you haven't fallen off the face of the earth. However, once again, things did not work out, and I apologize. Also, when I clicked "publish," it published the dates all out of order. You'll have to kind of skip around if you want to read the dates as they progress. So, while this may not be a technically correct "travelblog" hopefully you will enjoy reading about what we did, and enjoy looking at the pictures. God Bless, Hallie Milner... read more

Thursday, July 8, 2010: "Hii ni siku ambayo Bwana imefanya, mimi kufurahi na kushangilia ndani yake!" ("This is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it.") This morning, we were served fry bread with our team and it was yummy!!! Then we headed out for the day. Cindy Williams came with us. And a little old man, with a huge smile, came with us today. His name was Ellyrahema. The first Bible study we had was in a house that was approximately 12 ft. by 12 ft. and I am not joking. That was the entire house. A bed took up most of the house, and Mom, Katherine, Cindy, Paulina, myself, and the 4 inhabitants squeezed in a space that was about 4 ft. by 12 ft. I say ... read more

Friday, July 16, 2010: Our last day in Africa--heartbreaking! It has flown by so incredibly fast! But it was a wonderful trip! And I am exhausted. We went back to Mafia Alley Market, and the regular market, where we got some fabric, and I FINALLY got a (whole) black currant soda pop! Delicious! We packed up *sniff, sniff*and ate hamburgers and chips (french fries) at the Staffords, before heading to Kilimanjaro Airport. I know statistics don't really matter---it's how many lives we've touched and seeds we've planted. Remember Doreen? It was two years after they taught her that she became a Christian. So you never know. However. People like numbers and like to see the outcome of our work! So, here's estimates. We kept good count on the blackboard for 4 days, and then....things started sliding. ... read more

Monday, July 5, 2010: A bit (OK, lot) of disappointment today. We actually learned about it last night. Cy said he had both good and bad news for us. Bad news: You now had to purchase a work permit to do anykind of work--including evangelical--in Tanzania. Good news: We were able to attain some. Bad news: They don't take effect until Tuesday. Soooo Monday we could not work. Except for Danny, Cathy, and Vernetta. They went to the medical clinic in Monduli to set up their medical stuff. Danny and Cathy are both dentists, and will be working on....teeth! Wow! Haha. Vernetta is going to assist them. So the rest of us went to Mt. Meru Carver's Market (Mafia Alley) and Saif's, and got money exchanged. That night, some of the Christians from TZ fixed supper ... read more

Wednesday & Thursday, July 14 & 15, 2010: We went on a two day safari. It was phenomenal. Like, there are not even words to describe how amazing God's creation is!! We were not even on the safari yet, we were just driving to the safari, when out roaming loose were camels! Seriously! There were so many of us we had to take 3 safari vehicles. Everybody except Grant and Rod went. We did have an extra, though--Ozi Whittaker, from Nigeria. His Dad is a surgeon there---the one who was kidnapped, held hostage, and shot in the arm. Anyway, Ozi came with us. In our vehicle was Mom, Cody, Katherine, Lexi, Stephani, and I. The first day, we went to Tarangire National Park. It. Was. So. Hot. And windy. BUT I did not get sunburned!!! We ... read more

Friday, July 11, 2010: Our day started out mostly as normal--as normal as you can get in Africa, anyway! We went back to David & Margaret's house, and studied with the three women, and we also went back and studied with MamaCarey. When we got back for lunch, there was Brad and he had two people to baptize! But there was no sign of Cody. Mom was kind of freaking out, when Brad said he left Cody up on Mt. Meru with only William (preacher at Maji ya Chai)! For class today--our attendance was down to 110 --we did the story of the Good Samaritan. We acted it out, too, to the kids amusement. Poor Katherine got "beat up." :) We handed out colorful band-aids, too, and the kids LOVED them! That may be unfathomable to ... read more

A bed took up most of the house, and Mom, Katherine, Cindy, Paulina, myself, and the 4 inhabitants squeezed in a space that was about 4 ft. by 12 ft. I say inhabitants--there were David, and his wife Margaret, and their baby which sounded very sick, and Margaret's sister, Leah. They all live in that miniscule house. Then there was a neighbor, I suppose, named Calina. "You are my strength when I am weak, You are the treasure that I ... read more

Wednesday, July 7, 2010: Hey everybody---we are wearing jackets over here!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope y'all are enjoying July in the states, because when we head out in the morning it's around 60 degrees F!!!! Yep, we're wearing jackets for the majority of the day. Of course, we take them off in the afternoon, when the heat climaxes to 75 degrees. The day started out the same, folding tracts, singing a hymn, etc. Then we headed out. We held a Bible study with two women named Sylvester and Angela, outside in their open courtyard. Then we went back to MamaCarey's house and studied with her. After lunch was incredible. The day before, I had made a nice little speech to the kids about how glad we were that they came, and to come back tomorrow and bring their ... read more

Tuesday, July 6, 2010: Wow. And I mean wow. I have been to Tanzania once before, but that doesn't mean it ceases to amaze me. We have a saying in our group: "T.I.A." That stands for "This is Africa." That means: anything goes, anything is apt to change. It's certainly true. You wake up, and you're under mosquito netting. "This is definitely not Oklahoma." To say the least. We arise, and get ready. Sharing one bathroom with 7 girls and being ready at 8 o'clock is not easy. In fact, Brad said it was a miracle. 8 o'clock is when our bus would leave, with or without us. No, I'm just kidding. Katherine counted heads to make sure we were all there. We have a huge bus, although when we all get inside of it, it seems ... read more

Saturday/Sunday, July 3/4, 2010 Starting point: Reydon, Oklahoma Destination: Kisongo, Tanzania, AFRICA! After weeks of counting down, the day was finally here when we embarked upon our journey to Africa!! We all arrived at the OKC airport Saturday morning and got our baggage checked and everything, and said goodbyes. Went through security, waited for what seemed like ages, then boarded a plane to Minneapolis/St. Paul. We arrived there around 2 PM, and had lunch. Then we got on this bbbiiggg plane :) and flew across the ocean. We flew all night, during which I got no sleep, because certain persons who accompanied us to TZ were playing cards all night and were not exactly quiet. We arrived at Amsterdam, Holland, in the morning. I can't exactly tell you the hours, because we went through so many ... read more
