Saturday, July 9, 2010: Saturday was so packed full! We were incredibly busy! You know, we haven't studied with a huge number of people; mainly with the same ones every day. I am really glad of that, because it shows they are truly interested! We went back to Angela and Sylvester's house. Sylvester wasn't there, and Angela was sick. However, there was another lady, Yasinta, that we studied with. After we had gotten started, a man came and sat down on a bucket. His name was Godwin, and he studied with us, and seemed very, very interested. We studied the Bible for about two hours with them in their open yard. Next we went back to the house with the three ladies. David was there, today, and said that he had been baptized the previous night! ... read more

Tuesday, July 13, 2010: Separate directions once again! Rod and Grant went to hold Bible studies in Usa River; Brad and Cody went to Nsuku; Corey stayed at the ACSOP because he was really, really sick; Danny, Cathy, and Vernetta were at Mondule; and the girls and rest of the ladies were holding a women's seminar at Arusha. The seminar was at the Arusha Church of Christ, and officially started at 9 AM. However, as nobody was there at 9 AM (as previously stated, time does not factor hugely in Tanzanian's life style), it started at 9:30. From my point of view, I would say it was quite a success! There were about 50 in attendance! The theme was women of the Bible. Cindy Williams gave the first lesson, which was on Rebekah (she and Ralph ... read more

Monday, July 12, 2010: We went different directions again! Debra, Pam, and Janet went to Marangu Mwike, on Mt. Kilimanjaro, to visit people they had baptized in '08. Rod went back to Usa River. I would liked to have gone, but we couldn't get any more translators today! So instead, we went to some places which don't do evangelizing, but are equally important in Christian service, and which are fulfilling James 1:27: "Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to to visit the orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself unspotted from the world." In the morning, Mom, Brad, and I went to Mondule, to the Tanzania Christian Clinic. It is about 30 minutes from Kisongo. The clinic is where Danny, Cathy, and Vernetta have been ... read more

Sunday, July 11, 2010: We spent the Sunday going in several different directions. Brad preached at Njiro, while Cody taught Bible class; Grant preached at Maji Ya Chai, and Corey accompanied him; and Rod preached at USA River, where the rest of our group went as well. Some miscommunications arose with our bus, so we arrived at 10:30, instead of 10:00, but Tanzanians don't worry too much about time. Now, Fariji Paul told us that there were about 20 children that went to Church there. I figured that some children would accompany their parents to the Lutheran, Pentecostal Churches, or to the mosque, but some would still come off the street. I estimated there would be approximately 75 kids. Wrong. TWO HUNDRED and FORTY KIDS came to church that day! I was shocked, although in a ... read more

A l-o-n-g day in the airplane! I was not ready to leave Tanzania, but once we actually left, I couldn't wait to get home! Wish I had Aladdin's magic carpet! :) We arrived in Amsterdam, Holland, at 10 AM Saturday morning. It was an 11 hour flight from Kilimanjaro to there! No joke! (We had to stop at Dar Es Salaam before heading on). While in the airport, we bought some Belgium chocolate. Ummm....delectable!! :) Lexi got detained once again at security. She DID have a pocket knife in her backpack that she had forgotten about. Thankfully, all they did was confiscate the knife, and let her on the airplane. It took 9 hours to fly from Amsterdam to Minneapolis/St. Paul. Talk about torture! That seemed like the longest 9 hours of my life. Oh, and ... read more

Hello from Tanzania!! We arrived safely Monday night at 8:15 pm. I am so sorry I haven't posted anything, but this entry is the only thing I'll be able to do over here. :( :( Not to mention the pics won't work. (But don't worry. I've taken about a million--more or less--so I'll post them when I get home. I know it's not the same, but I suppose it's better than nothing!) I have no clue how many people we've studied with or how many tracks we've handed out. But we're keeping track on the blackboard, so I'll let you know when the campaign's over. I will say we had 220 kids in VBS today! All in one group! Talk about chaos when you hand cookies out, LOL!!! So, I hope y'all are all doing great, ... read more

Friday, March 27, 2009: Unbelievable. Our last day in Tanzania! I think everyone except me is really eager to get home. If it were up to me, we would stay another 2 weeks! At least! But today we had to get packed up. We left a lot of our clothes over there, so we didn't have to pack near as much going home. We also went to the market, Mafia Alley. I'm not sure if everyone enjoyed it, but Lauren and I did. It was fun bartering with the people, who try to sell stuff for double since you're a tourist. It didn't work! :-)We also went to Saif's. It's a pretty expensive shop. We ate supper with all the missionary families before we had to catch our plane, which left at 9:40 pm. It made ... read more

Wednesday, March 25/Thursday, March 26: Safari!!! Debra, Pam, Brad, Lauren, Mom and I went on a 2 day Safari. First we went to Manyara on Wednesday and then to Ngorongoro Crater on Thursday. Rod stayed and studied with more people at Maji Ya Chai (35 on Wednesday!). The safari (it means 'journey' in Swahili) was incredible! We saw such a different variety of animals. It's a lot different than seeing them in a zoo, too! Thursday we went to a Masai village. It was a little freaky...but very interesting! I have to steal Lauren's sentence when she told me, " I think God spent more time on Africa." When you see all the animals....the giraffe (my favorite), wildebeest, rhinoceros, and all the others, you can't help but think that God must have had a sense of ... read more
