Wednesday, March 18, 2009: Finally, we actually had a good nights sleep and woke up feeling good! Wednesday started out like any other day. We started the day off folding tracts, and making play-dough for the kids. Then we started off for our Bible Studies. Today it was Mom, Paulina, Maddie, Lauren, Sarah, and I. Sarah is a native and goes to church at Usa River. She and Lauren became "Rafiki" (friends). We went to a house--"Hodi, Hodi" "Karibu" "Asante Sana". Those are the first things that you say, and that's as far as I get in their conversation! :-) Translated: Knock-knock, Come in, Thank You Very Much. I am learning a little bit. Paulina did have to pull me aside and admonish me, because I would go around saying "Mombo" to adults. That's basically saying, ... read more

Tuesday, March 17, 2009: Our second day in TZ! I could write a book on it! It started out very much like the first day. We went back to Moniqua's house, and studied again. Then, we ask if she was ready to accept God's word and be baptized. She was! I was so fired up. :-P The Church at Maji Ya Chai doesn't have a baptistry, so Kamarabi drove us to Usa River, about 10 miles away. A lot of local Church members went with us. The well-worn baptistry was outside, and you fill it up with a garden hose. Talk about a long time! The preacher from Usa River baptized Moniqua--such a joyous moment! Well, during this time, Kamarabi had been called back to Maji Ya Chai, because someone was sick there. It turns out, ... read more

Click on one of the pictures and it will bring all of them up really big, so you don't have to squint at them. Monday, March 16, 2009: Our first morning to wake up in Tanzania!!! It's incredible waking up in the morning, lying on a bunk bed, surrounded by mosquito net and think "I am actually in AFRICA!" We left the School of Preaching at 8 AM. Our driver's name was Kamarabi, and we had a whole bus just for our team. I am sure Kamarbi was an awesome driver and kept us safe, however, it was a little nerve-racking. The road we traveled on every day, from Arusha to Maji Ya Chai, and back is....not the most dangerous road in the country. Not the most dangerous road on the continent, but the most dangerous ... read more

Sunday: We lost a few hours somewhere...... :-P We arrived at Amsterdam, Holland, about 7:30 am, and a couple of hours later got on our (last!) plane and headed to TZ. I was lucky enough to get a window seat, and despite the fact that the plane was 40,000 ft. in the air, I got to see some significant landmarks, such as the Alps, the Mediterranean, and the Libyan desert! We arrived at the Kilimanjaro Airport in Tanzania about 8:30 pm. (If you're in Central Time, TZ is 8 hours faster. So we arrived about the time most of y'all were getting out of Church.) It was....HOT! Unfortunately, it was dark, so we weren't able to see much. We obtained our visas and found our luggage (all of it had arrived!). Mr. Cy Stafford and Mr. ... read more

Hi! Here are some pictures off of my camera. Since I didn't add entries and pics everyday we were over there, I will now try to put these pics in chronological order and write something about each day! Saturday, March 14, 2009: We arrived at the Oklahoma City airport at 4:30 am, got all checked in, (hurry up and wait!) and our plane took off at 5:50 am. We flew into Detroit, switched planes and headed to Dulles (Washington DC). We had a 7 hour lay over, which was a little tedious, but we got through it! :-) We got quite familiar with the airport, played cards, and some worked on their lessons during those 7 hours. About 8 pm we left for Amsterdam. ... read more

Here are 146 pictures from our trip!! It's not really a travel blog, since we've been home 3 days, but I made some of the pictures accessible to y'all and I hope you enjoy looking at them. I really apologize for not doing this while we were in Africa, however in a third-world country it was extremely hard to down load pictures. We had a wonderful trip! There were 15 people baptized while we were there! It is estimated that we studied with 400-500 people! That's just a quick over view of our trip. You will, I'm sure, hear about this event in detail later. As I get them, I will try to put more photos on.... read more
