Well, our unit renovations are finally coming to an end and as we have had a couple of 38C days we decided to give our selves a break and went for a day out to Cressbrook Dam and camp area where we camped a few times when Mark and Erin were still with us. I must say, since Toowoomba has had some decent rain, the dam and camp area is now looking even better than we remember it. Almost full of water, everything is green and it looks like they have had a kangaroo population explosion. See the photos. We will have to visit and stay here again as it is an excellent area and the facilities are second to none. No powered sites, but then we don't need it as we are self sufficient. There ... read more

Sorry to our loyal blog viewers. I have been very slack adding further blogs as retirement has been very hectic to say the least. Once we got to Alstonville it was almost Xmas and we spent a week just getting around and visiting all my family that we haven't seen for some time. Once Xmas was over, we moved the van to Mullumbimby where my sister lives and spent another week doing some renovations on her house. I.e. We enclosed her back patio/sun deck with glass louvers, a large glass window and a glass panelled door plus a set of stairs so she had easy access to the garden/tool shed. It all looks fantastic and it will be a great spot to spend the cold winter mornings as it has a North East aspect. All the ... read more

22nd Dec 2013. Yesterday the Dish Lickers (greyhounds) doing trials where we were staying and to be honest I have never been that close up to them racing before. Do they move or what? Almost impossible to get a good photo, but I have attached the best one of a few that I took. After breakfast we packed up and hit the road early for Alstonville to avoid as much as possible the school holiday traffic on the Highway. We are staying at the Showgrounds with my brother Ray and Christine for a week or so. It is a great spot where we can park and set up the van in a massive undercover shed. (also see photo's). A very easy and relaxing day we had with a bit of a familiarisation walk around the town ... read more

Day 6. Today was our last day at the White Albatross in Nambucca Heads and if time had permitted we would have stayed longer. A thoroughly enjoyable stay. A great location and met quite a few friendly fellow travellers who were also enjoying the whole experience. The early morning walks were not only great exercise, but delivered some of the best scenery and sunrises as per the photos. I must say the weather has also been spectacular and we seem to be taking it with us wherever we go. Lets hope it sticks with us. We did the reasonably short morning trip up the highway to Grafton and have now set up camp at the Grafton Greyhound Racing Club grounds for a couple of nights so we can have a bit of a look around the ... read more

Day three. Today we did the short trip up to Nambucca Heads and we are staying in the White albatross Holiday Park on a Lagoon Water Front site for a couple of nights. We stayed here around 10 years ago when we had the bus and I must say it was a great park then and it has only improved since then. What a great park. We will definitely return to this park again in the future as it has everything, well set out, close to the break wall, great amenities and facilities which are all very modern and kept very clean. The weather is also perfect and I just couldn't help going for a swim in the lagoon after a walk out to the break wall. The only thing that made the day even better ... read more

Day twoand we are still at Hallidays Point taking in the beach and what the area has to offer. The sunrise this morning was spectacular as it appears to be every day at the moment. We are just settling in to the new life style, but still trying to keep some sort of routine to keep fit and healthy by eating and drinking the right things (not too much) and getting plenty of exercise via beach and bush walks plus swimming either at the beach or the park pool. Today we hope to get out and about again to see what is available in the local area and also looking for potential future spots to stay on return trips etc.... read more

This is our maiden voyage, other than the short trips we have taken around the Hunter Valley, to get the feel of our van and what we need to pack, how it tows, what it ends up weighing etc. Our first trip from Newcastle to Toowoomba will be relatively short (roughly a month) as we want to catch up with friends & family around Lismore and Mullumbimby for Christmas/New Year before heading to Toowoomba to set ourselves up in one of our units to use as a home base for our larger planned trips. As originally intended, we plan to travel no more than 200kms on any given day and with any luck, considerably less distances with our first outing only 154kms from Stockton Beach Van park to the Beachfront Holiday Resort at Red Head/Hallidays Point ... read more
