End of Day 3 - Pyramid Sound and Light Show So we last left off with a light and sound show at the Great Pyramids and dinner. It was really cool to see the pyramids at night and the light show was worth it; however, the sound part was about 30 minutes too long. It explained the pyramids and the Sphinx all over again but what are you going to do. The show started at 8:30 and went until 9:30. Then our guide took us to dinner at a restaurant downtown. One would think, no big deal, it’s down town. Well that was until it took us an hour and half to get there through traffic, and we ate our meal after 11 p.m. But Judy did continue to think we were going to be killed ... read more

Day 3 It's another beautiful and hot, ridiculoulsy hot morning in Cairo. Our day started again with Judy knocking on the hotel door at 8 a.m, yesterday it was 7:30. For some reason she thinks that two almost 40 year-old women can't get themselves up and ready to go on their own. We have only been out of our parents' houses for 20 years (oops, Kirsten is still living at home), but what are you going to do, always a mother. First stop was the Great Pyramids which are located right outside Cairo in Giza. It is literally a 4 or 5 mile drive from our hotel. After we dodged several Egyptian men trying to get us to take pictures with them, for a small fee of course, or buy postcards or turbans from them, we ... read more

Let the comedy of errors that become our vacations begin. This holiday is the 4Non-Blondes: Chester, Kirsten, Kirsten's mom Judy and Judy's sister Betty. Chester is the only one who has never colored her hair, so the name is quite appropriate. After 18 hours of travel, we all made it to the city of Cairo. Poor Judy had a target on her back or something. No one wanted to really deal with her and various airport employees in different countries would tell her to get in the other line, and then the next airport employee would direct her back to the same line or tell her to go the completely wrong way all together. As soon as we got out of airports, Judy was fine. Kirsten's travels were fine this time except for her drive from ... read more

Egypt and Turkey Itinerary Well another summer and another big trip for Chester and Kirsten. This year we are taking 3 weeks and heading to Egypt and Turkey. This year we have 2 fellow travelers, Kirsten's mom (Judy) and aunt (Betty). It will be an adventure for us all but mostly for Chester to sit back and watch 3 family members all try to control the trip. Let's just say we are 3 type A personalities. All for of us will be in Egypt from 11-19 June. Chester and Kirsten will head to the Red Sea area after that and than Turkey. Judy and Betty decided 10 days was enough. Our planned itinerary is below. We will do our best to update as we go along and share our adventures, laughs and I'm sure an embarrassing ... read more

Sights to Behold So you have see the animals, you have seen us having tons of fun, now a few pictures of some of the gorgeous scenery we saw along the way. But a little side note to follow up the trip. As we have previously mentions, one of our guides, Titus, had a bit of a crush on Lynn. Chester and I found the entire thing quite amusing and basically sat back and watched as he cornered her most days to have private conversations with her. During one of these conversations, Titus let Lynn know that he really like her fashion. This seemed a bit strange as Lynn mostly wore capri's and t-shirts. He followed it up with telling her that he liked the way her pants sat on her hips so he could see ... read more

Fun and Games We are doing our best to get the mountain of pictures out that we took. Definitely we will not get them all out, but have a few more we thought you might enjoy. You have seen some of the animal we saw and the places we stayed, now thought we'd show you some of the cool things we did in Africa. Starting in South on the Orange River dividing Namibia and South Africa we did a relaxing canoe ride on the Orange River. Since we had 3 of us, one of us had to go with the guide. As we are all 3 lazy we all wanted to be with guide. What is the fairest way to determine this you ask? Rock, Paper Scissors of course. That is unless you have one cheater ... read more

Victoria Falls - Definately a Natural Wonder Our last stop was Victoria Falls. The falls are on the Zambizi River dividing Zimbabwe and Zambia. Our original plan was to stay in Zimbabwe, but as we arrived the day after the elections, all of the tour companies had rerouted everyonoe to the Zambia side as it was a little unstable in Zimbabwe. So everythign was full in Zambia and we had to spend our final nights in tents. Hence the scene of the last breakdown by Chester. But after seeing the falls, it was all worth it. As with any vacation with Kirsten, the goal is to try and do as many activities as possible in the days you have there. And it was our last few days in Africa we did just that. We only had ... read more

Pictures from the Delta Finally getting a chance to get some of our pictures on the blog for all to see. Following are some pictures of our trip into the Delta in Botswana. 2 nights with no facilities. But a really nice hole I might add. Everything including ourselves had to be taken out by Mokoro. Small, hand dug out canoes. Chester and Kirsten even made an attempt at becoming the first American Female Polers. Note a very good attempt I might add. Hope you enjoy.... read more

Everything but the Lion Trying to pass along the best pictures and as the highlight of our trip was seeing all of the animals. We saw every animal that we had hoped and some we didn't even know existed except the elusive Lion. But if we were not so lazy and had gotten up at 4AM we could have seen the lion at the watering hole in Etosha Namibia. But it was too cold and sleep sounded pretty good at that time. The pictures are just the big animals. There were birds and small animals of all kinds as well. But just too many to remember. It was like being at the zoo on steroids everyday. Made it hard to sleep on the bus sometimes.... read more

Pictures our of Travels Well we have all arrived back home safe and sound and are enjoying our hot showers and comfortable beds. Chester and Kirsten tortured our friends and family with an old fashioned slide show of our picutres a few nights ago. So now that we have a better connection thought we would upload some of the better ones. We will spread this out of a few blogs. Hope you enjoy. We'll start with how we traveld and where we stayed just to give you an idea of what we had to live through.... read more
