Hello for the final time of this trip! We spent Monday travelling to Vietnam, a very long 9 hours on a bus but it was worth it to get to beautiful Vietnam, although it was a very soggy Vietnam when we arrived at 7 pm. We arrived at our home stay with the local family, we stayed next to the family not actually in the families house but felt more authentic than my last home stay in Peru. We arrived and were greeted by the whole family, once we had picked our beds it was time for dinner. We found some huge purple lizards which were living in the rooms. The family cooked in front of us on open fires and made almost a savoury fresh pancake with bean sprouts and meat. They then brought lots ... read more

Asia » Cambodia » South » Sihanoukville September 11th 2013

Hello once again! So after a nights rest from the rain - it didn't stop until early hours of the morning , we went on a trip to visit the killing fields and S-21 prison. Although Cambodia is safe country now, it was only free from the Khmer Rouge in 1998. I didn't really understand what had happened with regards to Pol Pot so this was a good opportunity to learn the history of Cambodia. Briefly for people who do not know who Pol Pot was he basically believed in communism and trained an army of children to take over the country and try to take the country to the basics of humanity, everyone was taken out of there houses and cities and were sent to work in the fields, the borders were closed and know ... read more

Hello again! Yesterday started off with a very early start at 4.45, we had to get up to get to Angkor Wat in time to see the sunrise over it. It was well worth the early start the view was fantastic and perfect for some photos. Once we have taken lots of pictures we had a tour around the temple, Angkor is actually the name of the ancient city and Angkor Wat is the main temple. I was really surprised to find it that you can still walk around inside it and even go to the top level - although it was closed for repairs so we couldn't go right to the top. I'm side the temple there was lots of carvings and even some paintings on the wall which had survived. Because there is no ... read more

Asia » Thailand » Central Thailand » Bangkok September 3rd 2013

I was terrified to get on the plane but when I realised I had a whole row to myself I fell asleep for pretty much most of the journey, well it was also probably helped by theValium type tablets and vodka lemonades! The second flight from Mumbai to Thailand was horrible, But I arrived safely! First thing I noticed about Bangkok is the traffic, I thought Hayford hill in oxford was bad for traffic - I was very much mistaken, after an hour and a half taxi journey I finally arrived at my hotel - hooray! I wasn't allowed to check in until 2pm - great it was 8am and I had no way of having a shower or anything. I decided to make myself get out and explore the city - even if I was ... read more

South America » Peru » Lima August 18th 2012

Hey everyone! It has now come to the end of my trip! My last few days in peru were spent relaxing. We headed to nazca where we had a pool ! So I spent the whole day topping up my tan being the little sun worshiper I am! While in nazca we had a traditional food ceromony performed to us. It was called patchumuma. They basically cook meats, pulses, potatoes and corn in the ground. They dig out the hole, fill it with hot coals put the food on top then pile the soil back in. The food is cooked like this for about 2 hours. Once the food is cooked a god mother and godfather is picked who then make an offering of Chicha - which is corn juice is made in a cross shape. ... read more

Hi everyone !After arriving back in Cuzco we took the two days easy. Sadly on the first day I was still ill so ended up back in the hotel on my own. About 5 I decided to get a Starbucks and McDonald's with the others to try ad make myself feel better ! The day after I was determined to get out and do something as we had time to kill until 7.30. I went to the inca museaum. There were lots and lots of pots there - that's enough pots for me this holiday I think! They also had some of the mummys which had been preserved, scary but very interesting and couldnt believe they survived so long without just breaking! I took some sneaky pictures so you could see ;) after a 10 hour ... read more

Hi everyone! So about a week since I last blogged - apologies I wrote 2nd of September on it meaning August! Anyway so day after my meeting I went on a trip to the sacred valley and ollyuntambo. The valley was made up of lots of inka ruins - houses, terraces ect and also over 5000 tombs built into a mountain wall! We then moved to ollyuntambo which had a huge inca ruin at the back which we climbed. The city didn't look like a city t start with as you drove up to it it looked like a wall but it had like a secret road to enter it. It was a bit of a stressful day as it was very expensive and we had to buy food from this very expensive place but it ... read more

Hey everyone! Sorry for not being in touch wifi has been down for a couple of days ! So I was really tired when I wrote my last blog and it showed! I forgot to tell you about one of my highlights in sucre. On our last afternoon in sucre we visited a local orphanage. the children were as young as a month and up to about 5. I was a bit worried about going in to start with as I was worried that I would get upset that they were orphaned however when we visited the first group a few months up to 3 it was amazing. The just wanted to be cuddled and have attention. One little boy who was the only one who could walk properly kept taking my hand and trying to ... read more

Hello everyone! We had about 3 days in sucre. We started our second day by walking round the city. We popped in to the local free museaum which had an exhibition of Bolivian mask , very intresting and amazing how stunninof some of thesemasks were. When we got back to the hotel my tour leader Carolina knocked and said she had a delivery for me. It was a white rose and I later found out it was suppose to be from the receptionist! We went quad bikacted for the day. I was expecting it to be round a dirt track however we went round the countryside n cliff edges and mountins for 3 hours! Was a bit scary at first as I kept thinking I was going to go of the edge because I couldn't steer ... read more
