Hello again! Yesterday started off with a very early start at 4.45, we had to get up to get to Angkor Wat in time to see the sunrise over it. It was well worth the early start the view was fantastic and perfect for some photos. Once we have taken lots of pictures we had a tour around the temple, Angkor is actually the name of the ancient city and Angkor Wat is the main temple. I was really surprised to find it that you can still walk around inside it and even go to the top level - although it was closed for repairs so we couldn't go right to the top. I'm side the temple there was lots of carvings and even some paintings on the wall which had survived. Because there is no doors to the temples, anything can get in including monkeys!! We saw them wandering around about and trying to play with people's shoes - they were all yawning too they must of had an early start like us - very cute! After the temple we headed back to the hotel for a quick breakfast and then headed back to Angkor city, we spent the rest
of the morning go through the different temples and finished with the famous jungle temple which was used in the tomb raider film, they had these amazing trees which had grown onto and taken over the temples, they were huge! We headed back to the hotel for the afternoon and I spent about 2 hours in the pool without getting out , I looked like a prune but I was so hot! Walking around the temples everyone was just dripping with sweat so was thankful there was a pool even though there wasn't much sun! We headed out for dinner and I stuck to my promise and didn't order any western food, I had amer mok I think that's what it was called anyway - basically a fresh curry with rice. While in the restaurant we watched some traditional dancing which was interesting - there costumes were amazing! We then headed to a bar and after a bucket of gin and tonic my memory was a little hazy - found a video of people dancing to one direction on my phone so I must of had a good night.
Today we got up and spent 6 hours travelling Phnom Penh.
Arrived in the evening so headed out to dinner and again kept it traditional and ate some loc lac which is beef, headed straight back to the hotel for an early night as I need to catch up on my beauty sleep! Because Cambodia is a third world country there is a lot of shanty towns here and in the fishing villages, the people are all really nice and not to sound up myself they seem to like me because of my blonde hair, there was a man in the hotel who followed me up 5 floors and to my door and kept asking if he could carry my bag - he didn't offer to help anyone else haha! I thought it was funny - little creeped out though so I did bolt the door when I was in the room on my own. It rained today the first time I have seen it over here, very different to England - so much water ! The roads look like lakes and you can see the lightning forks. It doesn't last too long and apparently drys up really quick, quite nice really as it cooled the temperature down! Heading to the
killing fields and prison tomorrow which will be really interesting but very sad. And after that I think I will have a date with the swimming pool!Still struggling with the time difference and sleeping but it's getting easier - I bet I will get use to it by the time I fly home!Hope the photos come out ok - had a little accident and sadly my screen is damaged due to a leaky bug spray container! Hope everyone is ok - the weather at home sounds lovely enjoy it and make sure it sticks around for when I'm home! Additonal photos to follow! Em x
