This morning I didn't see Tom or Mark as I groggily trudged my way to breakfast. Today I could only stomach one piece of toast with jam instead of two and put down a few glasses of water. There has been a pretty gnarly cough and flu going around the bus and I had been struggling with it for the last two days. So i complemented my breakfast with some airborne and hot water. As i hopped onto the bus I quickly found the seat closest to the front, to minimize the motion I would feel and grabbed the second row seat. The bus had to leave late on the account of three of the girls from the tour woke up 5 minutes prior to the bus departure time. I looked behind and saw Tom and ... read more

I slept like a log. i woke up this morning at 8 oclock due to movement in the room and had no idea where I was. I was so tired that I blacked out that entire night. I think the hot pools really relaxed me and then a few warm shots soothed the throat and that was good. However, this morning I was still struggling with the sore throat. Today for breakfast I got a treat I suppose. Pancakes! So a day without toast. And a day with good rest, but because of the sickness it almost felt like I didn't rest as much as I did. We hopped on the bus, the trip song a blaring and headed off to our next destination. Today we go back to Christchuch to drop off some of the ... read more

After a much rough night and sleeping at 4am. I had to wake up at 6am to get ready for what would be one of the most adrenaline pumping days you can imagine. On the circuit for today was: 1. World's highest Cliff Jump and Canjyon Swings (x2) 2. Australasia's Highest Bunjy Jump 3. World's Highest Swing As I looked out the window I couldn't ahve asked for a better day. The sun was finally shining, clouds were scarce in teh sky, only a few stratus clouds. And it was HOT!!! Running off 2 hours of sleep I was doing surprisingly well this morning. I reckon it was probably because I was so excited about the heaps of things I was going to be doing. After my normal morning toast with jam I headed back to ... read more

Waking up today took a little bit of an effort. After another good night I had to wake up at 6am to head off to Milford Sound at 6:40am. Again for breakfast I just put down a couple pieces of toast and several glasses of water. It seems that is just about all I can stomach in the mornings. We loaded up on the bus and as soon as we boarded I knocked out for a couple hours. I came to at the first stop which was to take pictures at a picturesque spot and relieve bathroom urges. It was pretty cold and there were several clouds in the sky. I am becomming used to seeing cloudy and windy weather in New Zealand. We made a few stops on the trip up to Milford Sound. Some ... read more

After a late night last night I was surprised that I woke up with a minimal hangover and after a few slices of toast and some OJ felt much better. I chose to sit at the front of the bus this time to limit the swinging motion you feel at the back, which would only worsen the hangover. I have to say that being in the front with the huge windows looking out as we drive through the beautiful New Zealand is pretty awesome. Today we bunjy jump off a bridge into water, and do the shotover jet on our way to Queenstown. I slept for some of the bus ride since I had some shuteye to catch up on. But when we stopped at the Bunjy jump place I was wide awake and ready to ... read more

This morning was quite a surprise. Woke up and as I stepped foot off my bed the ground was super warm. All I can say is warm floor in the morning is Awesome. After my shower, as i exited the bathroom my roomates exclaimed, "Did you see the SNOW outside!!" I looked out the window and sure enough everything was white! So much for a summer vacation and packing for the right weather. After breakfast which was pretty much toast for me, we all piled up in the bus and it ws determined that the trip song would be "I Got a Good Feeling, by Flo Rida" as we blasted the song first thing in the morning. Our first stop on the bus was this random old town where there were old trains around. And on ... read more

Day 2 on Contiki was not too bad. After a subpar breakfast we loaded up on the bus and headed out to Lake Ohau. We took stops every couple of hours at places and so the drive itself wasn't too bad. One of the stops was at a glacier fed lake. I forgot the name but I think one of them was something like Lake Pekaku. It was pretty amazing. The water was like this pastel blue with the snow tipped mountains in the backdrop. I had never seen water the color of that lake, which was pretty cool. We stopped at a couple lakes before we stopped for the night at Lake Ohau. On the drive we were told about the optional activities for the southern NZ island, and I think I almost checked everything. ... read more

After reaching New Zealand I took a shuttle to Bealeys Hotel, where the Contiki tour began. Upon reaching I met a few of the fellas on the tour as they were in the courtyard throwing the old pigskin around. I quickly found out that a good majority of people on the tour were from Australia. In fact, I am writing this on day 3 of the tour, and I almost feel like I'm in Australia more than New Zealand since my interaction is mostly with them Aussies. The first night was chill we all hung out did all the necessary paperwork and then grabbed dinner and a few brews. I was still jetlagged so knocked out at 1 while a couple guys ended up downing a bottle of Smirnoff among themselves before going down around 2:30. ... read more

Today I am off to New Zealand to begin my Contiki Tour. I woke up early this morning and headed off to the airport. On the train I struck up a conversation with an elderly couple who I found out tour the world every year between October and December. It was great to hear their stories and the man who was Irish was quite a funny fellow making jokes at his wife's expense continuously. But I could tell she was used to it and was dishing them right back. The mentioned they were flying to Turkey and they were heading out at noon. Mind you I was leaving at 9:30 and we were both on the train to the international airport at 7:40. I was a little concerned and my heart sank as I wondered if ... read more
