We really enjoyed our time going for coffee each day, going out for walks each day to see all the people enjoying food, coffee and drink. You never get tired of this routine. Eat a little walk a little, sometimes, if you can find a space to sit, but you always do, and you are absolutely amazed where all the people came from and how busy it is on the small islands and in the small villages. I absolutely love it.... read more

On Monday, August 26, Arlene, Myrna, and I arrived back in Athens on the Blue Star ferry from the island of Rhodes. What a wonderful 2 week trip to Kos and Rhodes. But first I only want to mention the terrible wild forest fires that have occurred over the last 5 days in Greece. Although there were absolutely so many fires I will make mention of a few places and make general comments only as I have watched T V and have heard from my relatives about the fires, but do not know all the facts. Firstly it is felt that many of these fires may have been started although not a proven fact. Unfortunate. The main fires were on the Island of Evia, that is where Arlene and Nick's family have a summer home, although ... read more

It is Friday and I am back, but not for long, because we 3 are off again to the island of Evia, Nick and Arlene's summer home for the weekend. We got in late, but the port street was absolutely full of people eating and having coffee and ice cream and drinks. The next day we drove to the other side of the island at a narrow point and went to a beautiful beautiful beech. Swam in some caves (I did not venture too far in). Wow. But we did have to drive through the fire area, where the Canadian water plane went down. Could not believe all the area that did burn. After this beautiful swim we went back to Styra to another night of walking along the port till 2 in the morning. On ... read more

Europe » Greece » Attica » Hydra August 2nd 2007

Now I have traveled on to island of Hydra. A very small rock island. How beautiful, a 1/2 hr ferry ride from Spetses. I found a place right away along the port with a balcony overlooking all the boats, ferries and village. It was so beautiful. If not walking around, I sat and watched the action. A young university Greek couple were next door, and after walking and eating, I sat and we all talked each on our own close balcony for 2 hours. We had a great time comparing countries and travels. On this island no vehicles except the town are allowed at all, not even scooters. They use donkeys to carry items and luggage for travelers, or pull carts etc. Yu get your exercise. Also water taxis and boats to get around the island. ... read more

Hi Again, first of all, unfortunately travel blog lost allot of entries with a failure, so I can not find the pictures I had and the Rome information and pictures. I will re enter some of them, but I am so busy traveling right now. Slowly I will re add my notes or new ones and pictures. I may have to do this after the fact. Too bad but I guess I am not in control of that. Anyways I will write a few more notes and later download some more pictures. Just want to let you know what is happening. Since last time, I went with Arlene and Nick to the island of Evia, city of Nea Styra. We sure had a nice time. Allot of people out each evening. We swam each day. Finally ... read more

t is Sunday night and We have returned to Athens from the island of Evia, village of Styra. A 45 minute ferry ride and a 45 minute drive to the house in Pallini, Athens. Can you believe it a traffic jam at midnight, Sunday with a temperature of 30 degrees. Not sure of this weeks plans yet, but making good use of every moment of my time away. Now I will back track to some of the activities of the last two weeks, which were quite something. I trust you will enjoy the pictures. We have seen some of them on the TV and they look pretty good and made us laugh again and again. I will only send a few, of course, but Nick and Arlene were laughing that I was a photographer taking pictures ... read more

Europe » Greece » West Greece » Patras July 30th 2007

On Sunday, July 15th, we traveled by car for 3 hours, (certainly it would have taken me 9 hours for sure with the 2 lane hiway with most driving on the shoulder to allow traffic to pass in the middle from both sides) and with all the turns and curves. Nick is a fast driver as all are here. The road goes through country and cities and villages, through the Korinthos Canal. Beautiful. Also beautiful was the new hugh Rio Antirrio Suspension Bridge at Patra. So impressive. The overnight stay at Alex's apartment and then to the beech and eating picalea at night so wonderful. Then on Monday off on the ferry to the island of Kefalonia.... read more

Europe » Greece » West Greece » Amaliada July 29th 2007

We are now back at Amaliada, going each day to the beech of Kourouta. This area is a farm community with farming of hugh pumpkins and watermellon just sitting out in the fields. We drove past many vegetables stands with the hugh vegetables witting pretty and looking so delicious. The water is so beautiful, the night time with a long walkway along the beech full of people eating, corn being grilled ontop of grills, bars with lovely lounges and music and lights. Ice cream a favorate of our again. Each day we would swim again and sit under the grass umbrellas. A nice drink in our hands of nice mixed juices. We also spent time walking in the night in the square of Amaliada, visiting Alex while he was working at the crepe shop. How nice. ... read more
