And we're Day 5 of 43 of the tour! Whee.. Currently, in Arusha, Tanzania.. a town that acts as a base for those who wants to climb kilimanjaro and do the national parks in north tanzania.. Spent US$340 to do the Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater option for the past 3 days.. I must say the experience have been great.. Worth or not worth the money? I'd say game parks are expensive in East Africa.. so if you want to experience it.. you have to pay for it.. didn't really think about the question of worth or not worth anymore.. Serengeti is a wide wide plains.. with sceneries that so typicalize (spelling? word?) "Africa".. actually i resent that plains and a single Acacia tree sort of symbolizes Africa.. cos Africa is so much more ... read more

So here i am.. back in Nairobi again.. Just went for the overland truck tour briefing.. tour leader seems like a nice person.. treats everyone's problems as her own and tries to do her best to help.. She's never gotten any Indonesian / Singaporean before.. and i told her about my visa problems.. haha.. she's like.. what challenges! but no prob.. we'll sort it out.. so... we'll see.. Will be travelling on the truck down Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia (Which i most probably won't be able to join, cos i'll have to go zimbabwe to do my bots and namibia visa and meet up with them at victoria falls), Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, South Africa.. seems like lots of money to spend.. what the hell.. i think i'll just be a little less budget concious from now ... read more

Tonight is the last night of my training in Dubai.. I was recalled from my travels to be at Dubai for a week of training for my new job, and had been in Dubai since 5th May.. I initially thought that I could catch up with my travel journals when I was in Dubai.. but everyday, after a long day of training.. and going out for dinner and drinks with my new colleagues.. by the time i came back to the room, i was very tired already... so no updates till now.. there are still 2 journals that i wanted to enter: 1) trip to Nairobi National Park and 2) Lake Naivasha and Hell's Gate National Park.. as i was writing the journal for Lamu. i realized that i've lost a bit of the feelings i ... read more

For some reason, the song "I've been to paradise.. but i've.. never been to me.. " keeps singing in my head when i'm in Lamu.. dunno why.. Anyways,.. Decided not to go Malindi after Mombasa.. cos they say is it's really touristy.. and i just want to relax and do nothing in lamu.. and Lamu is only 6hrs from Mombasa if you take the Tawakal mini bus.. 2hrs to Malindi.. and another 4 to Lamu.. 600ksh (67ksh=1USD)... actually the bus stops at Meroke(merowe?) and you take a boat to Lamu island.. 50ksh normal boat, 100ksh speed boat.. throughout the journey.. the scenery along the way just remind me of highway 3 along the east coast of west malaysia.. macam driving up to Cherating.. malindi looks just like pattaya.. with many different resorts/hotels along the coast.. ... read more

Ahh... After a 18hrs train ride from Nairobi.. limpeh is now in Mombasa, on the east coast of Kenya, facing the Indian Ocean.. Train ride to Mombasa Train is overnight train.. MWF Nairobi-Mombasa TuThSa Mombasa-Nairobi.. leaves 7pm.. if no delay.. 1st class ~3500ksh (2 to a cabin) 2nd class ~2500 (4 to a cabin) 3rd class (seats only) ~600 (i think) meals included in 1st and 2nd class.. but you can opt out (i opted in and bought 2nd class, and the meals aren't terribly fantastic.. not worth the 1100ksh extra at all.. so if you dun really fancy the restaurant car experience, just bring your own food and opt out)... Train is very slow, compared to 8hrs bus ride by bus.. mostly becos it stops so very often to wait for other trains (cargo) ... read more

ok.. i tried to take a walk around the block my hotel was in last night after dinner.. didn't feel too comfortable.. yes, there are street lights.. but all shops are closed.. and not many people walking on the streets.. some clusters of people idling at certain corners. .and there is this group of street prostitutes at the end of the road.. most of their eyes were on me.. walked towards the end of the road.. a few of the girls made a intercepting vector towards my path.. i quickend my pace.. so did they.. and i turned around, and they ran up and caught my arm.. and started calling 'baby.. baby.. where you go?'.. hair-raising experience.. shook them off and semi-ran back to my hotel.. nearly one point for melvin and tenglip.. haah.. so.. no.. ... read more

WOohoo! I've made it to Nairobi in one piece! No bandits.. no robbery.. just some abrasions and scratches.. and my neck and back is sore.. more on these later.. the Moyale - Nairobi leg is one of the toughest leg of travelling.. i enjoyed it tho.. but probably won't do it again.. haha.. Crossing the border Crossing the border from the Ethiopian side was hassle-free.. you just have to figure which building is the passport office and which building is the customs.. and which order you have to go to them.. After finishing with the formalities on the Ethio side.. you then walk along a road leading to the Kenyan side of Moyale.. oh, if you have any birrs remaining, you can change with the guys hanging out along the streets.. after much haggling.. i ... read more

Hotel Zeleke.. 25birr... 2nd day.. bus left Dilla at about 630am as well.. and we arrived here 220pm.. the journey here was good.. pretty flat ground.. good sealed roads most of the way.. something with ... read more
