Woke up at 3am this morning.. packed my stuffs and went down for breakfast.. The breakfast included by the hotels here are just some bread rolls and jam, and a cup of shai.. dun think interncontinental breakfast buffet.. At breakfast, realized that a group of Chinese youths i met at Luxor are putting up at Hathor and going for the trip as well.. 330am, bus came.. a 20+ seater... bus went around picking up a few more passengers, and as i guessed, the Beijing couple came on board as well.. woah.. Chinese power in this bus! haha... Fell asleep on bus shortly after the trip started.. wanted to wake up in time to see the dawn light setting in on the desert landscape we're driving through.. i've always loved to watch the sky brightening up ... read more

Arrived in Aswan this morning.. I am taking the same train that i took overnight from Cairo - Luxor.. now i'm taking the next leg.. Train is supposed to leave at 7am, but arrived only at 830am.. well, not too bad already i guess... when i took the train to Luxor, it arrived only at 10am.. hah.. 2nd class train ticket from Luxor to Aswan cost 16LE for students.. and about double that for adults.. it takes 3 hrs (by right).. and it took 3.5hrs to do that this morning.. Arrived in Aswan about 12 noon.. Checked out the Nubian Oasis Hotel, not too bad.. but not much amenities around.. managed to get the price down to 15LE/night.. but decided to try out the Hathor Hotel that german guy recommended.. walked pretty far.. finally arrived.. ... read more

There are a few sights around Luxor - Luxor Temple and Karnak Temple on the East bank, Tombs of the Kings, Queens, Nobles, and Hashephut Temple on the West bank, and Abydos where Osiris' head was buried after Seth killed him... Didn't do Abydos, which need a full day trip.. So.. my overnight train from Cairo was supposed to arrive at 7am in Luxor.. but it arrived only at 10am... so, went in search of a good place to stay.. the Nefertari had some pretty good comments in LP, walked there.. but was told room rate is fixed at 50LE.. wah.. so decided to try out the Princess Hotel (not in LP) recommended by another traveller.. When I arrived there.. i told him somebody recommended me.. and said i can get a room for 15LE ... read more

Overall, Giza did not give me a very good impression.. in fact.. i quite dislike the place.. maybe becos of all those hassling.. Mark Twain (i think.. not big on details, remember?) once said something like Giza's hassling for baksheesh or business causes suffering that no pen can write.. (in his better literary proses of course.. not big on details.. remember? =) by the time u get to the pyramids.. you are quite tired already.. ok, remember how i entered into the mummy's display from the exit? I think i've developed quite a knack for it.. I did it again! I entered the pyramid grounds from the sphinx side.. well, that's where my driver dropped me off.. so i walked in the pyramid direction.. went past some guards, they didn't stop me.. and i was ... read more

Today is my last day in Cairo, as I'll be taking the overnight train to Luxor.. and I planned to spend the entire day with the pyramids.. The Nile at Cairo Walked to the Nile before hitting out the pyramids to enjoy the Nile at Cairo. The river was pretty nice.. blue waters.. clean.. but as you can see from the photo, air in Cairo is pretty polluted. A german I met the night before told me studies have shown that breathing the air in Cairo for one day is equivalent to smoking 60 cigarettes.. wah.. dunno real or not.. There was a bridge across the Nile connecting to this island (Opera area) before reaching the west bank.. Hey, why not walk across the Nile? Sure.. why not.. but first, let's take a stroll along ... read more

It actually rained for about 5mins this morning while i was in the Sudan Embassy! i was worried it'll rain the whole day.. then i remembered rain here is not like Singapore.. heh.. Overall ok lah.. can still go out in t-shirts.. but i brought my fleece out as well, in case need to stay out late.. today actually quite cold at night.. maybe ... read more

Just finished packing everything.. have attached my final gear here.. seems to be an awful lots of things.. but i reviewed my barang-barange twice.. in the end only took out a tube of deepheat and calamine lotion for mosquito bites.. why need all these? when i have the all-powered tiger balm oil! headache put head, stomachache put stomach, hand pain put hand, mosquito bite also can put, nauseaus also can put near nose.. but ok lah.. i think my backpack looks damn tall cos of the tripod i've to squeeze inside.. had been thinking hard whether ... read more
