Dartington Hall We walked to Dartington Hall by way of the riverside footpath. The grounds were very interesting with friendly robins and sculptures. We went to have a look at the retail opportunity, but mainly high class stuff with very little local input beyond the obligatory arts. Totnes Went back to Totnes town in the rain to finish off where we got to at closing time the day before. Totnes certainly outstrips Malvern in interest and weirdness, but not in charity shops. Session (English unaccompanied) The Albert was very close to the campsite and we did't even have to cross the river. The pub brews its own beer and had interecting characters. One was a German with a motorbike he worked on his room. He had recently discovered his landlady was a witch. We do live ... read more

Totnes Paignton (open top bus) Looking at Totnes from the top of the open top bus gave us a new viewpoint. Progress was a bit slow with road works and traffic in Paignton, but our friends were still waiting at the bus station. We went for coffee at their flat in Goodrington. Paignton Kingswear (steam train) We could watch the train from their flat and picked it up from Goodrington Station, as it was closer. Kingswear Dartmouth (ferry) Some nice views from the end of the ferry pier. Dartmouth Totnes (river boat) Dartmouth is an interesting place to look around. I found a chandlers and bought a collapsible bucket. The benches overlooking the River Dart and the railway on the other bank are a good place to linger. Interesting stories as we went up the river ... read more

Back to Murvi Arrived at Murvi just after 9. There is not much in Lee Mills. The famous Lee Mill is now part of the Edinburgh Woolen Mills so not that special. There is also a large Motorhome sales place to the west of the village. Not tempted to exchange Pic (yet). Back towards Murvi there is a largish Tesco to fritter away the hours. When we were thinking about lunch, we had the call to pick up the van. They had found a sticking solenoid and had added silicone sealent to the wastes. On to Totnes The site at Totnes (Steamer Quay Caravan Club) was all it was reported to be. Very convenient for Totnes town and very very convenient for the boats from Dartmouth. All pitches are grass with no electricity, but there is ... read more

Visit to the sea We set off for Devon. We realised we wouldn't make the coast in Devon by lunch, so we made a detour for to Blue Anchor Bay near Minehead. Free parking, a not too bad holiday caravan park and the West Somerset Railway. We made a picnic and had a short walk along the beach. We sat on some rocks to eat and looked out to sea. Perhaps we will come back and look to staying on Exmoor. Visit to the pub We carried on to Pic's birthplace at Lee Mills near Plymouth. We had our evening meal at the Westward Inn. The steak and kidney pie had plenty of kidney. The Folk on the Moor folk club was very welcoming and well attended for a singers night. The mc for the night ... read more

Short Night The clocks went forward tonight so not too much sleep. Not sure if either of the pillows he had bought yesterday was quite right. It's a bit like Goldilocks. The memory foam was a little small (but it would save space), the other one was too big (though it would probably compress with age). We are having a pillow review when we get home! We walked up the old railway line into the centre of Ledbury for a guided walk with the retiring chairman of the Civic Society. Found out a lot I didn't know but it was so COLD. As soon as he finished we rushed back to the Plume of Feathers for Sunday Lunch, only to find a couple of us who were half way through theirs as they had not completed ... read more

Not the Walk We opted out of the walk as we had done part of it last month and wanted to chill a bit. We had a slow start chatting to some of the other non-walkers, then set off to the centre of Ledbury with a few things to buy and remembered what an interesting place Ledbury is, some shops had closed since we were last there and the cafe in the cook shop/deli had closed. Coffee and cakes in the Internet Cafe that has a poet/story/song session once a month that we have never been to, but I thought was off the other way! Fairly successful with our shopping and walked back to the Rugby Club, the people on the walk had arrived back in Ledbury not too late for lunch. Unfortuneatly our Van was ... read more

List making I attempted to form a list for our first trip and that was pretty comprehensive. I deliberately missed out some things I should have taken. Water management is a question and which camping club is the best to join. Embarrassment Arrived at Ledbury Rugby Club and parked up in neat lines on car park. Some had taken to the grass, but they were staying longer and looked a bit too close to the action. The large puddle under our van was put down to overfilling the cold water tank........ I had done this at home on a slope so seemed a reasonable explanation. Over 25 Murvies due for the weekend, our first chance to compare and contrast. Warm welcome from all and invited Simon (Garf) and Jess (the other local owners who we knew ... read more

Maiden Voyage CSMA Whitemead Site Parkend This was the baptism by fire (or rather mud and dark). The site was only an hour away and we made good time. However, it was dark when we arrived. I really must remember that the new van is a lot higher off the ground and descending from the cab needs the use of the step! I had bought a 5m water hose, but we had to find a working tap and get close to it. Couldn’t see the marker and found myself not centrally located. Unfortunately, I stopped just off the road in soft ground and couldn’t go anywhere until pulled off by a tractor the next morning. We had a meal at the local Woodman Pub which was quite good. The Lamb Shank was better than the Steak ... read more

Visit to VanBitz Taunton Back down the M5 to have alarm fitted. Very smooth trip down apart from the TomTom not being happy on the vehicle battery, but appears it was finger trouble (it is a long way across the cab to fiddle). Tried out mp3 CD which worked fine and avoided the need to fiddle with the CD player during the 2 hour each way trip. Lift provided into Taunton where I met up with a friend at the Castle Green Inn (hidden behind the Castle Hotel) in the town centre. Liver and bacon followed by cheese and bicuits very good. CAMRA pub but beer not sampled. Walked off lunch with a 2 or so mile walk back. The facilities at VanBitz are impressive with two large covered fitting bays (they made our van look ... read more

Taking Delivery Left Ashchurch for Tewkesbury just after 07:00 for the trip down to pick up our new Murvi Piccolo. Changes at Cheltenham and Exeter (for a second breakfast). Made sure of a seat on the left hand side to view the Exe and the sea. Brought back memories of childhood holidays in Devon and Cornwall and happy university days in Exeter. The van is a lot more complex than our much loved Vito Duo, it is also wider, longer and (most noticeably) taller. Went through the systems in a steady way. Found damage to the loo door and discovered the water pump had been disconnected. Filled her up with diesel then set off up the A38 and M5. Very smooth trip, getting used to the more restricted rear view and compensating rear view camera. Looks ... read more
