Saturday, 27th December 2014 Before we begin our weekend staycation at JB Tebrau City, we decided to stop by at Coffee Valley for breakfast. This was a nice, independent coffee house located along Jalan Trus, about 10 minutes walk from the Johor Bahru Customs. Coffee Valley occupied the second level of the pre-war shophouses in JB's historic core. With its high ceilings and warm hues, the environment made me relaxed the moment I stepped into the café. I could probably spend my entire day here actually. I ordered the Egg's Benedict with Waffles. The breakfast set came complete with a generous serving of fresh fruit platter and of course, a nice dose of the daily brew. This was certainly a great start to our staycation as we welcomed a nice, idyllic weekend in the Johor State ... read more

Saturday, 25th October 2014 There is always something to look forward to during breakfast time at Bangkok Loft Inn. The congee with dough sticks was really delicious. Together with the freshly prepared breads and cut fruits, breakfast time was a happy time for me. Today also marked the last day of my vacation as I would be catching a Jetstar flight home in the evening. My journey started 8 days earlier with a brief visit to Penang before hopping onto the railway across the Thai border to Hua Hin. Throughout the journey, I had a nice time catching up with my old friends as well as spending some happy times with the new friends I met in Hua Hin. With a few hours left to go before the end of my vacation, I spent the rest ... read more

Friday, 24th October 2014 Determined to fully utilised my 1-Day BTS Pass, I decided to make as many stops as possible today to make my 130 Baht go a long way. From my hotel at Wong Wian Yai Station, I took the BTS to National Stadium Station where the Jim Thompson House was another 5 minutes walk away. This was hidden beneath a walkway in a rather secluded location. Next, I continued my skytrain journey to Siam Square where I had breakfast at McDonalds at the bottom of Amarin Plaza. After breakfast, I continued to the JCB lounge within the same building for some refreshments while making use of the complimentary wifi facilities. The staffs were pleasant even though I was not a Japanese National, they made me feel really welcome. No visit to Bangkok would ... read more

Thursday, 23rd October 2014 I was off to Bangkok this morning. From Hua Hin, I took a mini-van to the Victory Monument BTS Station in Bangkok for 180 Baht. It took more than 3 hours to cover the entire 199km due to frequent stops along the way to pick up passengers and fuel breaks. Upon arrival in Bangkok, I wasn't too bothered to check out the name of the restaurant where I took my lunch. All I remembered was that I was really hungry and badly needed a toilet break. The noodles were forgettable - tasted pretty bland for the most part. There was a tuk-tuk vehicle in the interior of the restaurant which was really amazing. Before checking in, I took a peep at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC in short). This fine ... read more

Wednesday, 22nd October 2014 Early this morning, after a wholesome breakfast at the hotel, we engaged a driver to bring us to the Hua Hin Hills Vineyard and the Huay Mongkol Temple. Since they were not too far from Hua Hin Town, we avoided the fatigue of spending too much time on the road to get from one point to another. More quality time could be spent on sight-seeing instead. The weather was scorching hot by the time we reached the Huay Mongkol Temple. Nevertheless, the temple was a good place to say our prayers and rest our feet. By the time we reached Hua Hin Vineyards, it was already lunch-time. Granted the prices at the in-house restaurant was anything but cheap, it commanded a nice vista overlooking the vineyards and the surrounding greenery. In the ... read more

Tuesday, 21st October 2014 After snapping myself silly at the beautiful Hua Hin Station, I proceeded to my prebooked accommodation at the heart of the town. I liked that it was closed to everything that I needed - the night markets, the beach and the mini-bus station to Bangkok. I loved the roof top pool as well which afforded a great view of the beautiful coastline. The complimentary breakfast was geared towards the locals but it was nothing short of delicious. At the hotel, I bumped into the same Malaysian family whom I met on the train. We decided to hire a driver to the Vineyards and the Huay Mongkol Temple t... read more

Monday, 20th October 2014 One of the major highlights of my trip was the 19-hour railway journey that I took from Butterworth (Penang) to Hua Hin (Thailand) covering the distance of 940 km. My journey started on the afternoon of 20th October 2014 where I caught a free ferry ride from Georgetown to Butterworth Railway Station. I had always enjoyed train travel and doing a railway trip across the Malaysian border to Thailand was some sort of a bucket list fulfilled. I wasn't daunted by the long hours spent on the road since the train cabin was relatively comfortable onboard the International Sleeper Express Antarabangsa Train # 36. This service is operated by the State Railway of Thailand. One month prior to the start of my journey, I went over to Johor Bahru Railway Station and ... read more

Sunday, 19th October 2014 I was probably up and about at around 7+ this morning. After a quick wash-up, I walked over to Sunway Hotel where we met for our morning swim. HP and KW were up early as well and it was nice that we had the empty pool to ourselves. The pool was really small and would only be good for the three of us. After the swim, HP decided to head back to the room to rest while KW and myself went ahead with the complimentary breakfast at the hotel. Later on, we had lunch at New Lane before we went separate ways as they had to return back to Singapore in the afternoon. With little difficulty, I took a public bus from Komtar to the bus stand at Penang Hill. Enroute, it ... read more

Saturday, 18th October 2014 The skies were rainy as my Jetstar flight made her second landing attempt at the Penang International Airport. It got me real nervous after failing on its first descend. Finally, at 5pm this afternoon, my flight landed safely at the Bayan Lepas Airport - signalling the start of my 8 days trip around Penang and Thailand. Catching the RM 2.70 public bus from the airport to downtown Penang was straight forward enough for me. After about 50 minutes on the road, the driver dropped us at the KOMTAR bus interchange where I made my way to the hotel on foot. Sunday, 12th October 2014 A Brief Overview:- After months of anticipation, the Singapore Sports Museum finally opened its doors to the public at the Sports Hub on 9th October 2014. The Sports Museum first started life in 1983 at the West Entrance of the former National Stadium. After the stadium was demolished to make way for the new Sports Hub, I was waiting patiently for the museum to re-open its doors again.... So on Sunday, 12th October 2014, armed with plenty of curiosity and excitement, I happily made my way to the museum. Admission to this fine venue is free to all Singaporeans and Permanent Residents. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a massive Hall of Fame which paid tribute to our local sporting legends like Mr Ang Peng Siong who was crowned the World's Fastest ... read more
