Europe » Croatia » Dalmatia » Zadar August 1st 2017

After leaving Krka, we went directly to Zadar where, fortunately, it was a bit colder than in Krka (+/- 40°C vs. Kraka 48°C). We found our hostel quite easily thanks to Google maps, but when we got there, it turned out the owner wasn’t there, only his son. It was a bit weird, the room he showed us wasn’t the bedroom for 4 people we had booked but a 12-person bedroom, so we decided to wait for the owner to return before taking the room. He arrived after +/- 15 minutes and explained that the 4-person bedroom wasn’t ready yet (they opened just a week before and not much was ready yet) but that there would only be us and 2 other girls sleeping in the room. This was ok with us and we took the ... read more

Europe » Croatia » Dalmatia » Skradin August 1st 2017

The next morning, we got up very early, at 6:30 AM to have breakfast before going to Krka national park. After I had eaten half of my croissant, Anne found out that all the bread tasted like gas because we had been stupid enough to leave it during the night in the trunk of my car with the gas. That explained why my croissant tasted so bad...! °_° We threw everything away and bought new bread on our way to the national park as well as some milk for me because it's good against poisoning. We arrived at Krka national park at 7:50 AM and there were already about 50 other people there. After much consideration we had chosen the entrance at Lozovac instead of the one in Skradin. We both had read on different blogs ... read more

Europe » Croatia » Dalmatia » Split July 31st 2017

We left Mljet with the second ferry of the day at 9 AM and we went to Split. It was a good 3 hours drive with a small stop at a ridiculous border where Croatia is cut in 2 parts by Bosnia. They didn't even look at our passports, they just told us to go on. ^^ In Split, we found a "parking for tourists" 10 minutes from the old town that was not too expensive. It was already 1 PM and we were very hungry. So we went to the old town hoping to get something to eat. Unfortunately, everything in Split was very expensive and so we just ate 1 slice of pizza each... Ice cream was more than 1€ per scoop so we continued without ice cream. Split is a beautiful city, very ... read more

Europe » Croatia » Dalmatia » Mljet July 30th 2017

On Sunday morning, we got up early and left our camping at 7AM to get to Croatia. We were just in time, with only half an hour waiting at the borders where we could see the lines grow longer and longer. When we passed them, entering Croatia, our estimation was that people entering Montenegro would have to wait 2 hours in the queue to exist Croatia and at least 2 more hours to enter Montenegro... So we were pretty lucky with our half hour of delay. Thanks to this, we made it just in time to the ferry in Prapratno to get to Mljet. On our way we passed but Dubrovnik and it looked lovely but everyone we met told us better not to stop there since the tourists there are excruciating. Mljet is an island ... read more

Europe » Montenegro » Kotor » Perast July 29th 2017

On Saturday morning, we got up late and after a good breakfast, first we went back to Kotor to climb up to the fortress. Fortunately the entrance seemed too expensive to us (3€ p.p.) and so we decided not to go up there which was very fortunate because temperature climbed up fast and it would have been too hot to climb up there. Since there were many tourists already, we left Kotor to go to Herceg Novi, a town close to the border. It wasn't very nice though and so we left after taking a few pictures of the old town. We moved on, back direction Kotor, to find a camping, camping Zlokovic in Bijela, not too far from the border. Even though it was a big one, filled with mostly elderly people, it was nice ... read more

Europe » Montenegro » Kotor July 28th 2017

After visiting Budva, we went to Kotor. In Ljuta, a small town 5 km from Kotor, we had reserved a room at Alex Guesthouse. It was quite pleasant there, the room was nice, the bathroom and kitchen clean and free parking. The host was friendly but her English was very poor and she seemed a bit retarded. She told us that we were their only guests, but there were 2 other couples and she told us to take a bus to Kotor from the stop at the supermarket that was 3 km away... In the end we managed to get a (completely crowded) bus from Ljuta to Kotor, but it was quite late and we had missed the sunset that is supposed to be very beautiful from the fortress up in the mountains. Never mind, we ... read more

Europe » Montenegro » Budva July 28th 2017

The next morning we wanted to leave early to go to Budva but after planning our further way and having breakfast, it was about 11 AM when we left. It was pretty difficult to find a parking spot in Budva, but in the end we found one that was quite cheap, just in front of the tourist information. We went to the seaside where Anne had to buy new flip-flops because hers were broken. On the promenade next to the seaside, we got to understand why they call Budva "Ballermann of Croatia"! There were bars everywhere, it was so touristic, it was awful. We went to the old town where it was quite nice but it was too touristic as well with lots of tourist shops. We decided to have lunch there but it wasn't quite ... read more

Europe » Montenegro » Petrovac July 27th 2017

When we arrived back to shore, we took our leave from this marvellous place to go to a camping close to Petrovac. It is close to the seaside, but kind of difficult to find. First we went to Petrovac, where we drove around like idiots because the girl in the tourist info had given Anne the wrong directions, then I went there again, in a bad mood, showing this girl I wasn't happy about this mistake and finally got clear and correct indications. The camping was huge, but we found a nice spot for our tent. We asked the guy working there how to get to the 2 beaches and to a town Lonely Planet recommended, but in the end we just drove around small, steep villages and we couldn't find any nice beach! :-( We ... read more

After leaving the Biogradaska Gora national park, we went to Skadarsko Jezero, a huge lake close to the seaside. The way there was a bit difficult because we had to drive through a very long canyon that went almost all the way from the national park to Podgorica. Driving next to these big rocks seemed quite dangerous, most of all because it was raining a lot and once we even had to stop because it was raining so much we couldn't see the road anymore. It was impressive though and very beautiful. We arrived to Virpazar around 4 PM, 2 hours, 115 km and 20°C away from the national park. The temperature difference was immense! Virpazar is a lovely town, but we were hit by all the people trying to sell us a boat tour on ... read more

Europe » Montenegro July 25th 2017

After leaving Durmitor, we went almost straight to the Biogradaska Gora national park. We only made one short stop in Mojkovac because the lady at the tourist info in Durmitor had told us this is where we have to pay for the camping in Biogradaska Gora. Since this wasn't true and there wasn't even a tourist info, we left this city and we went to the national park. On our way there, it was mostly sunny, but when arrived there, it stated raining and it kept raining all night. People at this park were very nice and friendly, what a surprise! ^_^ It was about 8 PM when we arrived there, but since it was in a forest and it was raining, it was already quite dark and as soon as we had set up our ... read more
