Geo: -51.7325, -72.5051On Tuesday 26 of January, I left El Calafate with the 8:30 AM bus and at 3 PM finally arrived to Puerto Natales. During this 6:30 hours bus drive, I sat next to Maria from Hamburg whom I had met in the hostel where I had spent my first night in El Calafate. She's a very nice person and we had a good time together. She was going to do the W-track with some brazilian guys she had met in El Calafate and afterwards making her way north to Colombia where she had done some volunteering before. When we arrived, I went directly to my hostel. It wasn't far but I almost didn't make it, so much hurt my stupid foot... The hostel, "The Singing Lamb" was great! A big kitchen, a huge living room ... read more

Geo: -50.33, -72.3When I arrived to El Calafate on January 24 at 9 PM I was really hungry but had no more money to buy food and all ATM's in El Calafte were out of money... So I went to a pizzaria where I could pay with credit card and had some vegetable soup and an omlette with champignons. Afterwards I went to my hostel and arrived there at around 10:30 PM. I was very tired, my body was exhausted and my legs sour from walking in the heavy wind earlier in El Chaltén. The guy working in the hostel was an idiot : he talked like he's the smartest person in the world and you're stupid, he was incompetent, giving few and short infos and very unpolite... :-( He told me that the minitrekking-tour on ... read more

Geo: -49.2678, -72.7734On Friday 22d of January - after 3 long flights, a night at the airport in Santiago and meeting lots of unfriendly people who work at the airport of Buenos Aires - I finally arrived at El Calafate. Fortunately from there goes a bus directly to El Chaltén and I didn't have to hurry to the terminal to get the 6 PM bus. While waiting for the bus, I met Leo (Guillermo Leonardo) from Córdoba who lives near Buenos Aires. He went to visit some friends in El Chaltén who had been inviting him for years and now he finally went there. Since I was looking for accomodation and Leo's friends have a guesthouse, he told me to go with him in case they had some free space (which they didn't of course...). In ... read more

Geo: -41.256, -73.0065After my tour to La Junta, I went - like promised - to Llanquihue to visit my new friends Rosa, Javier and their son Joachim Vargas. I arrived at the right bus station but unfortunately couldn't remember which street it was, so walked around the streets for half an hour asking everybody if they knew my friends. These people where mostly from Santiago just visiting their family and didn't know anybody in the neighbourhood but one family was really kind and called Rosa and sent her some Whatsapp messages since I had no wifi, but Rosa was no to be reached... At some point I put on my (expensive) internet and sent her a whatsapp that I'm waiting for her at the lagoon. Half an hour later she finally got the message (she had ... read more

Geo: -41.4843, -72.3015After leaving Castro I arrived quite late (11:30 PM) to Puerto Montt. Since I wanted to take the bus at 7:45 AM to Cochamó, I didn't need a fancy hostel, I just wanted a bed somewhere near the terminal. The nice guy in the only open shop at the terminal recommanded me a cheap guesthouse warning me to close well the door at night and a nice taxidriver took me the 300 m because they said it really isn't a good idea for a girl to walk around the terminal alone by night. I saw why... ! This area looked really bad... The room was small and dirty, just disgusting ! But it was cheap. I slept in my sleeping bag because I didn't trust this bed but I couldn't sleep because I was ... read more

Geo: -42.558, -73.9468After a great lunch in Llanquihue, I took a minibus to Puerto Montt and there a bus (Cruz del Sur) to Ancud. My plan originally was to go to Castro and I bought a ticket there, but I had some time in Puerto Montt before my bus left and so I called the travel agency in Castro to see at what time leaves their tour to the Tantauco Park that I wanted to visit. Actually I saw on TV that there were lots of people in Castro this weekend and I was a bit afraid not to get a place in the tour or in a hostel. The hostel was no problem, they had free space, but the travel agency told me that all tours were full this weekend. I was shocked and a ... read more

Geo: -40.7644, -73.8326At 6 AM on 12th of January I took a bus back to Valdivia. I was so lucky as to have a very nice argentinian woman to have next to me. She told me that the educational system and the universities in Argentina are really bad and we talked about the hitch-hikers in South America. I told her that I prefer to take a bus but that I saw lots of hitch-hikers on "la ruta de los 7 lagos". She told me that there have been some incidents in the last years and that now nobody wants to give hitch-hikers a lift anymore; you just don't know who will enter your car. So it was a good decision to take busses. :-) Our bus-tour arrived 2 hours late even though we gad no problems ... read more

Geo: -40.17, -71.35On Sunday 10th of January I take the 7:30 AM bus to San Martin de los Andes, which shows up around 7:45 AM. In Pucón there is a bicycle race and the road is blocked fir more than 2 hours, but never mind, we're not in a rush, 8 or 10 hours in the bus, who cares! ;-)At least in that time I can review all Lonely Planet says about San Martin de los Andes, la ruta de los 7 lagos and surroundings. I think 1 1/2 days are much too short but maybe I'll find a nice tour which permits me to see as much as possible. Otherwise I'll try to rent a car and do it on my own.I just read in my book "eat, pray, love" about this all consuming "controll-freak" ... read more

Geo: -35.6751, -71.543On thursday 7th of January, I arrived with the nightbus at 6:30 AM in Curacautín. This was actually the first time I slept very well in a night bus because I was sooo tired after my 20 km hike and the bus came only at 00:45. In addition to that, this stupid bus had 30 minutes delay, so I was really happy when I finally could sleep. At 6:30 AM there is obviously nothing open yet but at 7 AM opened the shop of a gas station and I waited there with a the and sorting my guide books until 8:30. At first I was sure I wanted to go to this "Suizandina" camping and do some horse)riding like suggested in Lonely Planet. But it was quite far away from the center (25 km) and ... read more

Geo: -35.6751, -71.543After one night in Santiago, I left in a rush (I overslept and had to sent a mail before I could leave...) to get to the Reserva National Altos de Lircay. To get there, I took a 3 1/2 hour-bus to Talca and a 2 hour-bus to Vilches Alto. It wasn't that easy to find a bus going there because nobody knew which bus was going there, but in tge end I was so lucky to find one. The bus-tour was long but the worst was yet to come : a 2 km more or less steep hike to the Administration of the reserve. As if my bagpack wasn't heavy enough, I had to rent a gascooker and food at the bus-stop (the first is imposed by the administration, the second because there is ... read more
