Kaikoura Was the stop after Christchurch. It's popular for Whale watching so that's what we did! Whale watching, like any other animal watching requries some patience. Anyway, we did get a sight or two of the whale and the tail. I found the documentry on whales interesting, fascinating creatures, they can dive so deep. I found the Kaikoura to be beautiful with the mountains in the background. Shame it's not winter so there is no snow otherwise a lot of the places would look even more beautiful. I went for a coast walk in Kaikoura and it was the best one so far! It's rugged coast is really beautiful. I spent a lot of time just relaxing, watching the coast and listening to the sound of the sea. Really relaxing. Wellington We took the ferry from ... read more

I am now back in Christchurch. The Garden City or the English City. In Queenstown and the most exciting activity I did was the Luge, down the mountain :) Still, great fun and very nice mountain scenery while going doing the track. I faniced a visit to the Ice Bar! Basically a bar where everything is made out of ice including the glass. Next stop after Queenstown - Dunedin. The Scottish city of the south and the name derived from "Edin"burgh. I went to the Cadbury chocolate factory tour, we also got some chocolates of course but nothing fresh out of the factory. On leaving Dunedin we had the chance to the world's steepest street. People living on that street must get good workout everyday! There are finer things in life and I didn't think feeding ... read more

First stop after Greymouth, Franz Joseph glacier. I took the half day glacier hike which was really cool. Never been on a glacier before and it was surprising that it wasn't too cold! So far I have been in small towns in the mountains. It's really quite and peaceful. Very good place to get away from the city and relax. The fire alarm system in these towns is interesting. To alert the fireman (who is in the town) a siren goes off so he can come to the fire station. Or that's what I have gathered. A siren went off 4 am and I thought there is a avalanche and it's time to evacuate... N.Z is a really beautiful country. Mirror lakes to small towns in a valley. The scenery changes dramatically in relatively short distances. ... read more

Chirstchurch I was staying at the Jailhouse... accommodation. This is the hostel in Christchurch and it has a lot of character. It's actually a real jail converted into a hostel. Taking the taxi from Christchurch to the hostel, it felt like I am back in England. The similar houses, the sound the cars passing by on the road, street names, cricket fields and even breathing the fresh chilled air! It was cold and what a change arriving from hot, sunny and humid Cairns! The next day I went to the city center. I knew NZ was a British Colony but didn't expect it to be so similar to England! I mean Oz is so different. Even the climate so far, it feels like I am back in England. I found it bizarre that after travelling half ... read more

Magnetic Island to Carins Cairns is my departure city and brings the 3500 km overland trip with Oz Exprience to an end. Difficult to believe I've travelled that much distance and the overland trip is finished. We stopped by in a croc farm on the way to Cairns, which was fun but creepy! The Great Barrier Reef The Dive schools didn't let me do a PADI course as I would have failed the 200 meter swimming test. That too for good reason considering I freak out when thrown into deep water. Anyway, I decided to take some introductory dives, I wasn't going miss out on diving after coming all the way to Carins! We were given a dive briefing with the key skill - equalizing, clearning the mask from water and regulator. First dive - Panic ... read more

After few hours drive from Airlie beach we arrived in Townsville where we took the ferry to Magnetic Island. It's a tropical island with 320 days average sunshine every year. I was really happy when I arrived here, this place is just chill... no worries, just relaxing. Actually this has to be the most relaxed place so for in the travels in Oz. This hostel is more like a resort. Just spending the day listening to music, resting by the sea. Enjoying the heat and the sun! This place reminds me a bit of the Thailand but without the fire games of course :) We took part in a pub quiz where we came 2nd. There was a round involving an Egg race! For the price, free kayaking and big breakfast. Resturant food seems like an ... read more

The last few days have been action packed. I am now in Hervey Bay, the gateway to the Whitsunday Islands. On our travels we went bare foot lawn bowling. I must say it's not the most exciting sport I have participated but still worth trying out just for the sake of it. On the way to Hervey Bay we stopped at Kroombit Cattle Station. The country folks were friendly and I tried out few activites on the farm like horse riding and clay pigeon shooting. Goat Rodeo (catching a goat and stamping it with an artificial rod). Mechanical bull riding (bit painful but really good fun). We also tried whip cracking but I gave up after hitting myself. I didn't know the cracking sound is made when the tip of the whip breaks the sound barrier ... read more

Happy New 2008! Hope you had fantastic new years celebration. I travelled from Noosa to Hervey Bay via Rainbow beach. Rainbow beach was an amazing on the sandblast. Hervey Bay is not a very happening place but it's the gateway to Fraser island. That's were I spent the New Year. Fraser island is the largest sand island. It was a blast! There was a cyclone heading towards Fraser Island for new years so instead of going camping on the Island I went for a guided tour. I'll remember Fraser island for two things - Rain and the New Year. It was great fun. We were in the Dingo bar for new years party. This NYE was definitely different considering I have spend all of them in big cities before. Fraser Island is beautiful and diverse. Xmas was fun, went all went to the beach with few guitars and singing songs. Now in Queensland and the first thing we were told was to set the clock back in an hour. So by changing states we have just gained an hour, this probably explains 11 hour time difference between Sydney and London instead of 10. Between Byron Bay to Noosa we passed two cities, Surfers Paradise and Brisbane. I didn't stop at Sufers Paradise but I've heard it's a bit like Blackpool but with the sun! A holiday destination. Brisbane was an overnight stop so didn't have too much time there. I went for a walk around South Bank Parklands and got a good view of downdown area. I am now in Noosa, it's a small laid back town. Good for shopping if ... read more

Merry Christmas eveyone! I am in Byron Bay. This Christmas is very different, actually doesn't feel like Xmas at all. To be honest I am missing the Christams in UK. We have been to the beach and there are lot of people with hats and dressed in red. That's pretty much it.... Byron Bay is the second stop on the journey up the East Coast! After spending several hours on the bus I am starting to realise that East Coast is really long! Finally getting more than 6 hours sleep since I arrived in Australia. Our first stop was Mojo's surf camp! I wasn't sure what to expect but surfing was really good fun and good exercise too! I managed to stand up for a few seconds :) These learner surf boards are really long. Byron ... read more
