Bitten by the travel bug
How fantastic that your parents took you traveling to such exotic places--no wonder you were bitten by the traveling bug! What stories to tell your classmates after seeing Roman ruins, riding a camel and watching a belly dancer. Glad you're still traveling and telling your stories!

Bitten by the travel bug
It bit me good and well! My thirst for travels has never decreased, quite the opposite! I still strive to make every year a better travel year than the last. :)

Sowing the seed
I feel you living memories in this blog Per-Olof. It's in your words and pics. A tween taste that has turned into a passion. Interesting to see what seeds are sown and how they grow in later life.

Pristina

I think I would enjoy Prishtina
To visit Kosovo has been on our minds for a while but when we still haven't been able to get cheap flight tickets there. Perhaps we should try your idea, that is to fly somewhere else in the area and go by bus the rest of the way. We'll think about that. Thanks for the interesting blog entry. /Ake

Respect for History Park

Blood Ties
We celebrate ANZAC Day in Oz as a coming of age for our young country. A public holiday to remember a bloody defeat at the hands of the Turks seems strange. Yet it means many things to many people. To me there is a plaque in Hyde Park in Sydney from Attaturk himself that brings me to tears each time - "Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives . . . You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours . . . You, the mothers, who sent their sons from faraway countries wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace, after having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well." ATATURK, 1934 (Inscription in Turkish) 1881 - 1938 MUSTAFA KEMAL ATATURK President Of The Republic Of Turkey

I understand why it means so much to you. Gallipoli was somewhat of a birth of the national pride of Australia and New Zeeland as nations in their own right. Kemal Ataturk was a great man in many ways. The plaque in Hyde Park (which I hope to see some day) is mirrored at Gallipoli by the Kabatepe Ari Burnu Beach Memorial: https://www.travelblog.org/Photos/8047070. Many good men on both sides lost their lives in this battle.

Turkey has been at the top of our wish list for many years. Think I'd better press the buttons harder so we get there.

Japan
Oooh I look forward to seeing your Japan blog. My hubby and I are going there in September, partly staying with a lady he once taught English to many years ago. I so want to see the snow monkeys in the hot springs and visit one of the cat islands!

Japan
I think you and me both will enjoy it a lot. Staying with the people living there makes the experience so much better in my opinion. :)
