Totally different view of Vilnius
We were in Vilnius last year. It is fun to see how two people can visit the same city and come away with such totally different sites that have been visited. /Ake

Trys Kryžiai

Recommended place in Lithuania
I can recommend a visit to Hill of Crosses in Lithuania. We were there 10 years ago and it was very interesting. We made a blog from there (blog entry number 160216) and you can read it and see our pictures. /Ake

The Hills of Crosses was indeed amazing and so was Siauliai nearby, I should be posting about my time there tomorrow. :) Thank you for the tip. :)

Thank you yourself. :) I think it was a story well worth telling, I'm happy you felt the same. :)

Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania
We have been thinking about travel through Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Thanks for showing us some places outside of the capital to give us an idea what there is to see. Looking forward to take a look at the other blog posts you have from there. /Ake

Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania
The countries have so much to offer. I would say that my favourites for each country so far was Siauliai for Lithuania, Sigulda for Latvia and Tartu for Estonia. :) You should definitely go here again. :)

A hero indeed
I didn't know that a Japanese diplomat had worked so tirelessly to save Jews during WWII. A hero indeed. Thanks for the history.

A hero indeed
Thank you. :) I feel that Sugihara should have a larger international acknowledgement than he has. :)

You certainly get around
Now Morocco...maybe a short stop...but you've got the pics to prove it. How many notches do you have in your belt now Per-Olof?

You certainly get around
I'm blessed with parents that gave me a love of travelling. I'm at 53 at the moment. My latest trip was to United Arab Emirates and Oman in December and before that Japan in April and May last year. For this year I will go to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in June, Spain and Andorra in July and Qatar and Japan again in October. :)

Madeira
Charles the First of Austria's body buried here in Portugal but his heart buried with his wife's in Switzerland. That is extraordinary that the heart would be separated from the corpse...even if his death marked the end of the Hapsburg Empire. Great slice of trivia Per-Olof.

Madeira
Thank you. It is interesting to learn new things that you certainly weren't expecting when visiting new countries. Before I had no idea that the last Habsburg Emperor lived out his final days in Madeira or of his, unusual, way of burial.

People Praying

Where Jesus wept
I reckon Jesus would weep over the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, Per-Olof. What an experience to visit Jerusalem on a school trip and experience the volatility of the place. Why is there a metal wall seeming to divide access to the Western wall in your picture?

People Praying

Where Jesus wept
I reckon the same. :( The metal wall divides the men's section (the big one) from the women's section (the small one).

Gambia
You certainly got around when you were young Per-Olof. Gambia...not on everyone's tourist trail!

Gambia
I certainly did, I owe my parents a great debt of gratitude. :)

Interesting read
Interesting to read about your experiences in UK in the 90-ies. I have been thinking about writing a few blogs myself about travels I did before I joined Travelblog. I'll probably get past the "thinking about" stage and get it going one day but it might take some time. /Ake

Interesting read
Thank you Ake! Aye, I felt that I really needed to start writing about it before I forgot even more than I have. Memories do fade away so I felt it was a good idea to start writing it down. :)

Stepping Out
Sounds like your parents gave you plenty of opportunity to learn how to be somewhat self reliant in your teens Per-Olof. Let loose in London...brushes with the law when you least expected it. Interesting what experiences help mould one's future.

Stepping Out
I'm lucky to have great parents who have really given me opportunity to grow from a young age. :)

You and I had a different first impression of Paris
First time I went to Paris was also in the 90-ies and my experience was totally different from yours. I absolutely loved Paris, the culture, the food, the people, the lot! Even the less beautiful and right out rough sides of Paris I loved. It is funny how two people can have such a totally different impression of the same place, isn't it? Ake

You and I had a different first impression of Paris
Very true Ake. :) Luckily my more recent experiences with France has been far better. I still haven't been back to Paris though but I will return there for sure to get a better impression of it. :)
