A Small Swede in the Big World's Guestbook

Sanzaru
I have heard so much about the three wise monkeys and seen many depictions of them, but had no idea that it was linked to a temple in Nikko - thanks for the detailed information. Crowds are hard to deal with at the best of times, but I think they annoy me more in sacred places where the ambiance and vibe of a space is totally ruined by them. Hope the rest of your trip is blessed with fewer/quieter humans :)

Doha Aloha
Doha appears visually a very austere place Per-Olof but as usual you have dug below the facade and found a fascinating place.

Loved Tokyo
Emma and went to Tokyo a few years ago. We loved it there and we are thinking about going there again next year. I look forward to read about what you have to say about Tokyo because I guess there are more blogs coming :-) /Ake

Loved Tokyo
I Loved Tokyo as well, but this year I didn't stay there though, just used it as a base point to visit Nikko and Kamakura. ^_^

Doha
Thanks for taking us on this trip through Doha, you've made it sound like a very attractive stop-over destination. The Bin Jelmood House museum would be a confronting visit, but it's such in important topic to address. Safe travels to Japan :)

Doha
I'm happy that you liked it. :) I found it to be better than I expected, though I would argue that a 2 day stopover is better than my 3½ day version. You can easily cover this in two days but I think one day might be cutting it a bit tight. :) Uber will be your best friend here as well! The Bin Jelmood House is one that I think everyone should visit, such a strong and important topic. I'm happy that they've made such a good museum about and also made it free to visit so that no one cane give any excuses for not visiting it. It's centrally located, free and interesting. Thank you! My posts from Japan should start coming soon. :)

Class based societies
It was sad to read about the driver, but it was a good reminder of how different the world is based on the luck of ones birth. I love Singapore but I have to keep reminding myself of the great masses of imported labour that help to keep the city working in such an efficient way...and I suppose it's no different (and possibly worse) in the Arab nations. Love the crisp blue sky architecture photos!

Class based societies
I am afraid that it's most likely worse here in the Arab countries, I've read many disturbing reports about the working conditions of their migrant workers, especially for the women coming in from Africa and southeast Asia. I also love Singapore, but as you say, there is a need to keep in mind of the costs to keep such societies running.

Arty Doha
It's so interesting reading about a place I know so little about. I know what you mean about being drained of energy when you do any physical activity in such extreme hot weather - the AC is such a life saver in those countries! The photos from the Museum of Islamic Art are lovely, I love a well lit exhibition :)

Thank you! I really enjoyed the Museum of Islamic Arts, it's easy to spend several hours there, especially with the murdering heat waiting for you outside. :p

Wow, Doha sounds like an amazing place to visit, combining the traditional and the modern in the Arabic world. A very interesting read :)

Almost melted in Doha
I spent 12 hours in Doha between flights once. It was so hot I thought I was going to melt. I look forward to read more about Qatar because I would like to go there again and see it instead of just trying to escape the heat. /Ake

Qatar
Sounds like an incredible visit to Qatar, Per-Olof. Interested to hear if they are making progress in readying for the World Cup in 2022 as I hear a lot of speculation whether it will take place or not. Maybe Kerry & Trudy have some thoughts on the matter.
