No, I am not travelling anywhere exotic these days (yet), but given that distance travelling is still somewhat problematical, uncertain, and unpredictable I thought that it might be enjoyable for people to read about some of my previous adventures. This was my first very big one, alone, travelling to Thailand for half a year, way back beginning in 2011. So here we go, again. Thursday, November 10, 2011 was the day I left Exeter, Maine to drive with my husband, Bill, to Montreal, Canada to begin my journey to Bangkok, Thailand. I did not want to fly anywhere within the US any longer because of its abusive, non-Constitutional, and cancer-causing naked-body scanner terrorist-screening techniques, so I chose to fly from Montreal, where people were still treated with respect. The drive was pleasant, pretty, although bittersweet. I ... read more

A near-empty flight LX 180 flew us on March 18 to Bangkok. One wonders how long the airline industry can sustain this situation. Nenad remembered reading an interview with the Chairman of Swiss saying that their budget until July 2021 is not losing more money than 2 million Swiss Franks a day !!! Courtesy of the Swiss tax payer. In Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport an army of staff expected the few passengers. They were all wearing full protective gear with mask, face shield, head cover and full body protective plastic coats inclusive shoe protection. We felt like being in a science fiction movie. In a way funny to observe, but from a safety perspective quite professionally done. Despite all our negative Covid PCR tests we are treated as if carrying the virus. After all checks and document ... read more

http://www.heygo.com 19th February - Bangkok Flower Market Well it had to be done ! It was a 4am start but so worth it. The Bangkok Flower Market (Pak Khlong Talat in Thai), is Thailand’s largest wholesale flower market and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Some say that Pak Khlong Talat is now one of the world’s largest flower markets. We started with our tour guide Kay, a lovely guy, on Memorial Bridge, a green and beige bascule bridge built over the Chao Phraya River. It was inaugurated in 1932 by King Rama VII, commissioned to mark the 150th anniversary of the Chakri Dynasty. Hence it is named after the first king of the dynasty. First we came to a busy street lined with flower shops, a real feast for the ... read more

http://www.heygo.com 26th January Today I set the alarm for 7am to join a tour in Bangkok. Wow what a colourful visual feast. Or Tor Kor Market was established by the Marketing Organization for Farmers (MOF), which is a state enterprise under control of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives aiming to help farmers and the villagers in marketing, sales, and storage of agricultural products. 1st December 2020 Bangkok Today I set my alarm as I was being whisked away to Bangkok for a tour of the Golden Palace. We first visited to Bangkok and this amazing place over 25years ago, we returned in 2013 as a last stop off of a cruise before flying home, unfortunately at that time I wasn’t feeling 100% so I thought walking around the Palace at midday with temperatures in the 30’s wasn’t a good idea and I didn’t take the tour so this morning I have taken a virtual tour with Kay the local guide. How strange not to see hoards of tourists but that meant we could get up close and admire all the intricate decorations of the buildings whether they were stained glass, ceramic or gold mosaics. The Golden Palace of Bangkok ... read more

Sometimes we just need to get away from stress even if it’s just for a weekend. In 2019, I was fortunate enough to go on a weekend getaway with my husband in the province of Ranong in southern Thailand. Koh Phayam is one of the most tranquil islands in Thailand. The beaches are often deserted, which makes it the perfect relaxing beach holiday. How We Got There Getting there was an exciting process. We flew from Bangkok to Ranong. From Ranong, we were one step away from Koh Phayam. There are two ways to get to Koh Phayam, both of which involve sea travel. To get to the pier, you can choose a motorcycle taxi or a songthaew, a short minibus. We took the speedboat instead of the slow boat. It takes approximately 40 mi... read more

My trip to Phrae, Thailand with Mam was amazing. Besides the serene environment and welcoming people, we had time to bond and catch up on old times. From the food, scenarios, cultural heritage to hospitality Phraehas grown in tips and bounds. Below are some of the areas we visited. Pay attention to the detail in Thai culture and heritage. Wat Phra Non We visited the Wat Phra Non temple. It is revered due to its mythical connotation of a lying god. Besides the social ideology, the architecture and design of the temple are second to none. Mam was excited as we snapped the day away in traditional Thai colours. What really captivated us was the clusters of art on the building; Sukhothai, Ayutthaya and Chiangsaen. One couldn’t he... read more

It’s likely the things you’ll do in Thailand, you’ll dream about for weeks. It’s also likely the things you’ll see will bring on nightmares, lots and lots of nightmares. Just like dreams, some are good, some bad. Thailand is THE dream destination; The sunsets, the food, the hospitality, the animals = Happy dream The traffic, the climate, the pace, the other animals = Scary dream (Have you seen the size of a Monitor Lizard??) Scary plays a big role in Thai Culture, the concept of Hell, demons and ghosts aren’t wasted on the Thai, though at times an angry Thai mother can be the most terrifying of all. But just a stroll through any street in Thailand shows just the impact Ghosts have on Thailand, lines of shot glasses, marigolds and burning incense at every corner ... read more

I'm so excited to be planning a road trip to Pai this coming November! My husband and I are planning a trip for his family when they visit from Australia, and I'm so excited to show them around! We'll be driving from here in Chiang Mai to Pai where we will spend three days. Finding a Big Car and Baby Car Seats First things first, transportation. We need to rent a bigger car to accommodate my in-laws, as well as my two little niece's. Luckily there are quite a few car rental places in Chiang Mai, so it'll be easy for us to rent something for our trip. We also will be needing a car seat for our nieces. We have been doing research and found this car seat, Daiichi’s First 7 that meets our standards ... read more

Hi everyone….how’s life during COVID-19? I'm now in Brisbane visiting Archie. I know this is a challenging time for us. Many people have to stay away from family, some people have to work from home and some might lose their jobs. I have been talking to my ex-pat friends in Thailand asking how they do during these days in Thailand. I’ve heard a lot of interesting things my friends started doing while they are stuck at home. I have been working from anywhere since 2014 and I want to show you a few ways that are helping me live the laptop lifestyle and have the freedom to work - especially here in the beautiful country of Thailand!
