We started our day by going to the restaurant for a drink and to sit in some shade to write yesterday’s blog (we were too drunk last night). Sarah sought out another hammock to sit in and attempted to write the blog from there. Lise (the owner) came over after a bit and we told her our news and talked about weddings. She told us about the wedding they had at Seaflower earlier in the year and it sounded amazing. After writing the blog we were hungry and decided to eat something in the restaurant, we went for sandwiches as it was a weird time of day (too late for breakfast and too early for lunch really), the sandwiches were amazing and confirmed to us what a fab place Seaflower is. We talked about returning soon. ... read more

Following all the city living we were more than ready for some relaxing beach time on arrival at Ko Tao. It didn't disappoint! Ko Tao is grouped with Ko Phangan and Ko Samui on the gulf coast of Tailand. It is the smallest island and has a reputation as a sleepy diving island. We had managed to book ahead and when we arrived there we had a lovely basic little bungalow just off the beach. However before we could move in, James had to dispose of a large praying mantis and hide from a huge lizard. There is not masses to tell about are time in Ko Tao really, we spent 3 nights there in total. The beach was beautiful and despite being quite busy in all the hotels it was still possible to find your ... read more

So 3 weeks in Koh Tao turned into nearly a month. The island is incredible and so were all the people that i met. I arrived with an Austrian girl that i had met on the ferry frojm Chumphon and we decided to stay in a bungalow together until she left four days later. We stayed at O'Chai bungalows and they were lovely. After a few days i had met lots and lots of people from all over the world and it's true what everyone said to me, you will meet lots of people and never be on your own. I met a group of guys who had been on a diving course together and we hired an ATV (quad bike) between us to explore the island. It only took 15 mins to drive from one ... read more

So Ko Tao "the island of the turtle" I spent a few days on the island (which is really dedicated to divers) but as it is not in my top priority to dive, i found some other bits to do. We stayed in a little Guesthouse just away from the sea in the Sairee Village, which was basic but homely as there were a few of us staying there, the main beach was nice but nothing spectacular and you couldnt really swim past your waist as it is very rocky. So we spent a few days by that beach and found some other bits to do. One day I took a walk up to a Viewpoint in the North of the island which really gave a fantastic view of the beach and then we went to ... read more

I’m sat at the dining table at my mum and dad’s in Holmfirth, Yorkshire having a brew and listening to Simon Mayo on Radio 2. My mum is cooking tea and my Dad is upstairs watching Last of the Summer Wine. I thought I’d best escape and write my blog before I got too sucked into the hilarious plot line about Compo being put in a bath with wheels or something. I’ve not slept great since arriving back on Saturday and as a result of sleep deprivation I’m struggling to distinguish between our travels (holiday) and reality. Subsequently I’m not sure whether whilst in Bangkok I saw some transvestites riding around on zimmer frames fixed to the top of some black cabs singing Spice Girls songs or whether that was something in the closing ceremony in ... read more

Once I had sorted my bags out this morning we met up with some of the girls to take them to the views around the island on the Quad bikes. Had such a good day saw some more isolated bars the rastabar was perfect the view the drinks and the toddler who was asleep had the perfect life. The roads were again very difficult and some of the hills alsmot impossible to get up but we managed. once we got to the beech we were amazed at how they could just keep getting better. We took the bikes back and got our washing. had a chill out in the sea and then met up later on for a last supper and some beers. It was Beckis birthday and then I hit bed.... read more

After a long sleep in the morning we decided it would be cool to see the island from the view points on the map. The best way of course was via Quad bikes so we got ourselves a couple and headed off into the afternoon sun in search of many things views new grounds maybe even an island to call home. Unfortunatly all these things had already been found and we were probably 100 years too late. Anywho we did find a mountain view bar which was a hut on the top of a mountain were one woman and 3 kids sold drinks and a view. What a view it was too possibly the best we have seen so far. We stayed there for a while and took it all in before heading back down and ... read more

From Hua Hin the night bus dropped us in Ranong, a weird fishing town at 5.30am. We caught another rickety boat in the pouring rain over to MyanMar for them to stamp our passports - this was definitely our least favourite boat trip so far! Once back in Thailand with another 15day visa in hand we got a minivan to Champong and waited a few hours for our night boat to Koh Tao. The rusty old boat was huge and packed with people, concrete, leaf roofing, bikes, water and a dog named Bombzie! We slept in a little dorm on the boat until 6am the next morning and then made our way to Sairee beach. It took us a long while but we eventually ended up at Bans Diving Resort! We signed up to a PADI ... read more

After waking up at 3:15am at the bay we had a further 3 hour wait for the boat to take us to the island. sitting on tyres (used) I managed to get a little sleep but not much before the sunrise awoke us and the usual barrage of guides and locals appeared. to this I walked off and took some sunrise snaps. The ferry was awful also packed on a tiny boat like sardines with only the outside to sit and the morning sun litterary beating down on us we got trampled on by people walking past and burnt and very grumpy! all the taxis on the island are hi luxs which i thought was cool as it was perfect for the terrain and you could chill in the back. The hostel was cool a nice ... read more

Having been on this island for over a month now, you get to know certain hot spots for food/drink etc. That's why I'll always go to Sairee Dive Cottage for my one large beer around 5pm, watch the cracking view and generally daydream for an hour before I find out where the group are and join them in catching up on the days diving over food and other notable events. Other places of interest include Zest for a great late breakfast and Flowers bar for pizza and pool. This particular night was going to be a good one. A member of The Prodigy had turned up for a late night DJ set at one of the beach bars - simply couldn't say no that (nor could the rest of the island judging how busy it was, ... read more
