Dzis plecaki nam nieco zamokły i wręcz wymarzły.

It was still raining lightly when we woke next morning but we were planning a day at Yangmingshan National Park and a bit of cooling misty rain wasn't going to stop us. The park covers 114 square Klms, and has thick forests mountains (just), hot springs (13 in total) and acres of rolling grass hills. It was once the centre of the armed resistance movement in Northern Taiwan after Taiwan was ceded to Japan in 1895. Old fortifications from that era dot the park as well as many Japanese pillboxes from the Second World War. The park was easy to get to - a couple of subway stations away and a half hour bus ride. The bus was full of older Taiwanese - the couple we spoke to go to the park most days to walk ... read more

Once again we've packed our bags, made the two hour trip to Brisbane airport and boarded a flight at the international airport. This time we are heading back to Asia. Initially we'll be spending a fortnight in Taiwan before flying to Vietnam, China and Malaysia. It was a long sleepless 22 hours from leaving our house to arriving at the hotel in Taipei. Two flights with Singapore Airlines, a three hour transit stopover in Singapore and another hour on a bus before we were greeted with smiles at the lovely Ambience Hotel. Our room is sparkling all white with a five star bathroom. Double shower and state of the art toilet - heated seat, and all manner of spray options! After resting for a while we headed out to have a meal at Shilin night market. ... read more

Watch me go à mon retour ... je bats mon score !!! Je ne me sens pas trop depaysé. C'est super propre; même les poubelles ... read more

Nǐ hǎo! Hello from Taiwan I still love Thailand and visiting my friends there and I have been very fortunate to have made some more good friends in Taiwan and feel very comfortable there. The national parks are magnificent and there is much to see and do every day. If only I could speak Mandarin :) The photos tell the story of this holiday - new friends and new places to see - I climbed a mountain, saw some great waterfalls and soaked my feet in the hot water river and springs. This is the good life :) There are 70 photos. Click on each photo for a larger view.... read more

Saturday, 19th April 2014 We started our journey eight days earlier when our Jetstar flight landed at Taoyuan International Airport. We then journeyed along the east coast of Taiwan to cover the beautiful landscapes of Taitung and Yilan counties. Along the way, we stopped by at the historic mining town of Shifen even though none of us were too impressed by the whole experience. After breakfast today, we headed separate ways again where I took the metro to the Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall. I had ample time to browse through the exhibits before catching a glimpse of the hourly Changing of Guards Ceremony at the Main Hall. I couldn't stay for the entire duration as the crowds were slowly building up around me. Heading to the Eslite Bookstore on my final day in the city, ... read more

Saturday, 12th April 2014 I was happy to land myself in Taiwan for my 7th time after enduring the 4hrs 30 mins red-eye flight from Singapore. However silly it sounds, the red-eye flight was most useful for time-strapped holiday makers like us since we wasted no time on the boring commute. Getting from the airport to our hotel was a familiar affair involving transfers on the bus and the metro systems. After leaving our luggage at url=http://www.tripadvisor.com.sg/ShowUserReviews-g293913-d2017876-r201908844-CityInn_Hotel_Plus_Ximending_Branch-Taipe.htmlCityInn Plus Ximending, we headed separate ways after breakfast. The plan was to converge again at the hotel lobby at 3 in the afternoon, ready for check-in and of course some decent rest. I made my first stop at the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall in the morning to witness the hourly changing of guards. The situati... read more

If there ever is a rocket that can get to a destination faster, you heard it hear first, I will gladly sign up for that test. I sat in the middle seat between my two friends and lets just say, the seats are only 16 - 17 inches wide...HAVE YOU SEEN MY APPETITE? On a 14 hour flight, I probably slept only 7 hours as it was a bumpy ride due to turbulence. The rest 7 hours was spent looking out the window wondering if the Lakers lost, why someone can buy 50 watermelons in math problems and no one questions them. We reached the Taiwan Airport at 6AM (TAIWAN TIME) and man...they have some legit stores here open AT 6AM IN THE MORNING! Who is shopping at these stores at 6AM!? Oh wait, Cartier didn't ... read more

Ni Hao!!! After Ghana I went back to the Netherlands where I spent one week and saw some family, friends and acquaintances again. Then I left from Amsterdam aboard China Airlines to Taipei, Taiwan with a quick stop in Bangkok, Thailand. I didn't originally plan to visit Taiwan but since I had an option to stay there a few days, I took advantage and did it. I spent 6 days in the country. I found the country to be clean and very modern, the people I dealt with were friendly with superb customer service which the rest of the world could learn from! Taiwan is also known as "Republic of China" because officially it's not an independent country. China still considers Taiwan as part of its territory. It's a very complicated issue, but I consider it ... read more
