For regular readers, you can probably guess there was no way I was going back to Korea. My company gave me very little notice, so Jen and I scrambled to book a weekend trip together, but we just couldn't make it work due to her work schedule. So I decided to head to Taiwan alone boo-hoo. The short version goes like this: ... read more

Thursday 13th May – Hong Kong – Taipei Tony said when he awoke he could quite easily stay in bed, considering how our day turned out this may have been the best thing to do! We left the Dragon Hostel just after 10am for Hong Kong Airport, our flight was at 1.10pm, but we had a couple of trains to catch etc. Caught the Metro to Central HK11 ($2.40) and then had to transfer to the Airport Express Train HK75 ($16) which took about half an hour. We get the tickets at a small Free Go Bus office, their green buses being painted with big dalmatians, an amusing case of Greyhound ripoff. It turns out the sevice is not as express as last time, making a few stops along the way, but it is a daylight trip and much more interesting. We finally arrive at Taipei main railway sation sometime after four pm in a chaotic mess of traffic and bad air. I'm happy to have some local expertise to help me navigate the confusion. We go to check in our bags at the ... read more

Chiang Kai Sek airport, Taipei. I am in a lay over to go to Jakarta to attend my sister's wedding. I took off from Des Moines, transiting in Dallas, Los Angeles, and of course, Taipei. This two week journey will be an interesting one: one week of Thanksgiving break and another week of break extension. I am a little bit worried about the weather change and expecially the reversed culture shock I might experience by having living in the States for so long. But of course, the highlight is my sister and her future husband and my future brother-in-law, Julius. They are highschool sweethearts, and have been dating for nine years now, even though for four years they lived apart in two different cities for college. ... read more
