Hello/AOA to all! We have just arrived in the Taipei airport after our 13 1/2 hour flight! The flight was not that bad. I was able to sleep for about 8 hours and Tayyaba slept a little less. The food we had on the flight was chinese noodles for a snack and then for breakfast we shared scrambled eggs and some chinese type of porridge that had carrots, peas, and chicken it it. The plane was huge and we are glad we have the longest leg of our trip behind us! We have one hour until our plane leaves from here and we will be off to BALI!! We are both very excited and can't wait to arrive. Hope everyone is doing good and we miss you guys!! BALI HERE WE COME!! Love, Tayyaba and Alan ... read more

Deodorant and a quick brushing do not a shower make. Sitting in the Taipei airport waiting for my next flight to Bangkok. From there, it will be a slow slog into the city, a 10-hour train ride north to Chiang Mai, and a 3-4 hour bus ride to get me near Mai Ai. I think that means I get there on Saturday. Though last I checked, it was Wednesday. On the long flight over, I sat next to a health worker from Indonesia, who had gotten 3 weeks off to take his 3 kids (all born in LA) and wife back to his native village. He wants his kids to feel the depth of the opportunity they have in the US, and how hard the struggle was for him to leave the village and to rise ... read more

So im back in Taiwan and honestly this place is kinda creepin me out.... right as I step off the plane im bombarded by that damn cat again!!! What is it with these people and Hello Kitty? Im beginning to think that it was created by the Red Masters as a brain washing tool for childeren. But anyways.......... Ive had a great past few days in Phnom Penh and everyday im beginning to realize why people hate tourists and more often then not , American Tourists. We were leaving a nice little cafe on the riverfront after dinner and all we here is screaming and yelling, its a bunch of "frat bros" from Cal State. soo drunk and screwing with the locals and one is soo drunk he passes out face down right on the sidewalk ... read more

Anyways, Im hungry and there are unusual smells I need to track down and taste. ... read more

March 20, 11:24PM: We finally made it! To the airport that is. Thanks to my sister and Phil, Adam and I got to SFO at 10:00PM (You two rock!). With three hours to kill, we wondered around the domestic & international terminals and read our books. Cassie is currently reading Living Dead in Dallas; Adam is currently reading One Square Mile of Hell. It’s currently 1:24PM Bangkok time. We must stay awake for 9 more hours to stick to our new time zone for the next two weeks! Can we do it? I don’t think so….zzzzzzzzzzzzz. We miss Abby and Coco already. So we are now 10 hours into our flight to Taipei. Only 5 more hours to go! And then a 3 hour layover and a 3 hour flight to Bangkok! Awwwwwwwwwwww damn. I gotta ... read more

"多了一份亲切感,少了一脸的无助 。这是我喜欢的台北。" Overheard in Taipei Metro: - "台北车站。往淡水,新店和南势角的旅客,请在本站换车。" "Taipei Main Station. Attention, passengers transfering to Danshui, Xindian and Nanshijiao, please alight at this station." I'm sure Mum would like to stay here too and take the MRT trains often because there were Chinese, English, Hokkien & Hakka announcements. She will have less difficulty finding her way around. And yes, the Priority Seats are seldom taken up. Coming out of the Airport Arrival Hall @ 6pm, a familiar scene awaited me. It did not took long for me to find and board Bus Service 705 to the Taoyuan High Speed Rail Station. The whole journey took about 15 minutes from the airport. The Taoyuan High Speed Rail Station is certainly impressive with the glass facade and modern finishes. This was in stark contrast with the Airport Terminal ... read more

A few reasons why Taiwan is the best country ever (even though it dosen't officially exist) They fed me TWICE on their flight. They have very attractive and kind stewardesses. They have FREE INTERNET in their airport. Strangers come up to you and tell you in broken english that they like your "mustachae" (beard) and America. As anyone who has been my roomie knows, I love crazy Asian TV. ALL THEY HAVE is crazy Asian tv. They have touch screen computers with on-demand content in their ECONOMY CLASS SECTION. Even though the food was fine, they have a message displayed on the communal fligh computer saying "Please accept our apologies if occasionally your choice is not available." Wow. I don't even mind being stranded here for 8 hours. No way Thailand's airport can beat this.... read more

I wonder how many times I've flown out of this airport. I'm glad it's being re-modeled right now. 13.5 hours later... Layover at CKS中正/桃園Tao Yuan International Airport depending on your nationalist flavor/fervor. I realize I've never flown into Taiwan at dawn, I usually come in at night. Pretty stunning views of Ilha Formusa, Dan Shui (淡水河), and that bridge here: The election has certainly changed Taiwan in some ways, last year it all the billboards were clamoring for UN recognition of Taiwan: Other things do not change: Look zoo displays for ethnicities! And exotic flowers of Taiwan! Hello Kitty Galore! And ridiculous public service announcement about serious issues like STDs that are still adorable!: In all seriousness though, I think this is interesting: Three prayer rooms for two of the major religions in Asia and Christianity, ... read more

Hello everyone, I have some downtime in the airport at the moment. We were kicked off the plane so they could refuel. I just flew from LAX to Taiwan via Malaysian Airlines (MH). Love MH. The food was delicious, the seats were comfortable, and the flight attendants were polite and helpful. Some of the food highlights: grilled chicken on bamboo sticks with a peanut sauce. One of the best looking strawberries i have ever seen in my life. Pancakes covered in huge blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries. Some of the best orange juice i have ever tasted. And a constant stream of water (or booze depending on what time they were asking me). The seats: wow. More seating options than a car. It had preset buttons for eating, lounging, and sleeping. And the headrest could fold so ... read more
