Believe it or not, after 6 years of living in LA I only just experienced the Tom Bradley International Terminal. And I was not impressed. Crowded, run down, few facilities....well, it's not so bad BEFORE you cross security, which I managed to do twice last night. I went looking for an ATM only to discover that the only one was located outside the security gate. Good thing my flight was delayed by an hour and I had nothing better to do from 11 pm to 2:15 am. Many hours of boredom later, I was finally on my China Air flight to Taipei. The flight itself was rather uneventful. I mostly slept, but managed to catch up on "The Other Boleyn Girl" (blah, book was much better), "27 Dresses" (predictable but good in-flight entertainment) and "Definitely, Maybe" ... read more

Okay. We made it to Taipei. The flight was fine, but long. We are not going to get out in Taipei, but I thought I'd drop a note and let you all know we made it here. Next flight is only 5 hours. ... read more

So here we are in Taipei. Fourteen hours on the place wasn't fun, but it wasn't too terrible either. Note, if anyone ever offers you breakfast choices of scrambled eggs or pordge, go with the eggs. Claire wasn't so lucky but she get to experience Tuna Floss...I still have no idea what that is but we think it comes from the sea. Goodtimes.... Our flight will be boarding in a few minutes so we'll have to cut this short. The airport here is really like most other airports I've been to in the states except for the strange writing that I can't read. Other than that it's lovely. Well, we'll post more once we get to Bangkok.... read more

Taipei. I don't believe I've ever been here before. It's funny how I don't even know. My stop here is brief, to say the least. Yet another airport transfer in a random Asian country on the other side of the Pacific. I've had transfers in South Korea, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, and who even knows where else. It's a shame I never have time to explore the city (other than one fateful day in Shanghai that I will get to at a later date). Planes are amazing in the way twelve hours can drop you in a culture completely different from your own. Those first few hours are always some of the most interesting because of all the new sights you're being exposed to. The one thing about Taipei that sticks in my mind are the ... read more

Well I'm cooling my heels in Tapei waiting for my flight to Bangkok and found this free internet station. The flight was long but uneventful. Seemed like I slept alot although my neck feels a little stiff. Watched Rattatouile for awhile which was entertaining. Need to head to the gate but wanted to see how easy this blog was to use. Hope you all are well. brian... read more

Well we made it 3/4 of the way to Bangkok! And, honestly, we're not much worse off for the wear. This trip seemed a heck of a lot easier (and shorter) than last years. Guess we can just chalk it up to being old pros now... :) Flight was relatively uneventful and, even despite Billy's last-minute attempts to get us upgraded--we were denied! The lady behind the counter had to keep 'checking' in a suspicious routine with her 'manager' before we were told 'no, it's not looking good.' I think the literal translation of that was 'no, you're not looking too good...try not wearing ripped jeans and Muppets Babies t-shirts next time you want to fly business class.' So, needless to say, we're in Taipei. They did a little remodel on the airport here and, as ... read more

Ok the flight over here was a bit of a nightmare. I was awake the whole way to Taipei so I didn't have to much trouble besides on the landing . I'm not to good at landings and we had a lady behind us spewing for about half an hour which didn't help. I'm not a fan of Taipei although we couldn't go outside because you had to pay. The flight from Taipei to Frankfurt wasn't good. I was sick the whole over. I had a sleeping tablet but couldn't sleep properly. It wasn't fun. We had a well deserved bourbon when we got to Frankfurt (No one knows what bourbon is here) and everyone looked at us funny. We realised it was 9 in the morning, hehe. When my feet finally hit the floor ... read more

I'm finally on my way. I made it to Taipei and have a couple of minutes to kill so I thought I would write to say "hi". As some of you know, my passport did not come on time and I had to reschedule my flight. I've talked to one of my room-mates who is in Bangkok and heading to Chang Mai. I'll probably head there as soon as I get into Bangkok. It's pretty wild being the minority for once. I met some pretty cool guys in LAX that were on the flight here. One of them in from Phnom Penh, Cambodia. His family owns a hotel there! Sounds like I will be heading to Cambodia this trip. Better catch my flight. Talk to you later. Pictures to come! ... read more

sitting at an internet cafe at Taipai aiport. Talk about clean! This place is immaculate. I have a 6 hour layover here before heading to Phuket so its going to be fun trying to kill time as I do laps around the airport. At moments I become somewhat reflective. I keep thinking that I have to get back and get to work. I keep thinking there is an immediate date in which I must return to the states. This experience of going out into the world to wander and see as much as could has been floating around my brain since I could remember. I always felt that before I could do anything else I just had to do this very thing - a one way ticket and a savings account. Of course, I will seek ... read more

Well, I woke up this morning on the other side of the world in a whirlwind of confusion, jet lag, and lack of decent sleep. I am in Taipei, Taiwan...of all places at the Airport! I am leaving to head to South Korea in about an hours time. At home the time is 10:00 Pm on Monday and here it is 1:00 Pm on Tuesday. The weather is awesome, it was plus 17 degrees when we landed this morning. So far I am having a great time ( well for being stuck in the Vancouver airport for 12 hours and then in CKS Airport for 7!!) I haven't met any other Canadians yet, but this cute old man from Japan talked with me when I was eating my lunch... I would for sure be a flight ... read more
