Sehr gepflegte ... read more

Dad, Nancy and I arrived Thursday morning in Puerto Princessa, Palawan. Woo Hoo! It was about 27 degrees celcius when we landed and humid as hell. Nancy had a stellar sleep (as she says) the night before we left (her first night in Manila) but I on the other hand only had about four hours sleep before we left. Dad, Nancy, Ann and I decided to have some drinks on the porch after dinner and after Nancy and I had packed for Palawan. Dad went to bed around 9:20p and Nancy retired not long after but was a complete trooper. Ann and I decided to polish off the rest of the Grey Goose that night - hehe. We were just sitting and talking when we saw my dad come down stairs fully dressed. I started to ... read more

1. Go see the crocodile farm and butterfly garden. Then read in your obscure German guidebook that the third captive attraction of the surroundings of Puerto Princesa is a penintentary farm. Wonder whether human prisoners would be less dull than crocodiles. 2. Hangout with some local kids who are strangely proud of the fact that their school is "celebrating its centennial" and the authorities are going to build "a centennial gate" to commemorate it. Then discuss their parents getting divorced. Let the kids guide you around and finally to the baywalk. Enjoy sunset there. 3. Have Mexican for dinner. Seafood would have been too obvious a solution as it's supposed to be superb here. 4. Humiliate yourself at the videoke bar while getting absolutely hammered on rum. 5. Get two hours of sleep before taking a ... read more

We arrived at 4 a.m. at Manila airport, where we had to wait four and a half hours to catch our next flight to Puerto Princesa, capital of Palawan Island. The 'arrival hall' was one of the smallest I've ever seen, with just one luggage belt it certainly was getting crowded, having just 2 airplanes landed of which one being an Philippines Airlines Boeing 737..... When we finally had our bags we took our first tricycle to our guesthouse. It was a very nice place, with a massive garden / courtyard and everything done in wood. After a much needed shower and some food, we decided it was time for our first beach; There wasn't a whole lot of choice apart from Honda Bay, for which it was a little too late in the day to ... read more

Early Arrivals The alarm went off as planned, and in our haze of morning alertness, we managed to pull our things together, check out of the room, and wave down a taxi by 6:15. Everything went smoothly, and by 7:10, our bags were checked in and all we had to do was wait for the 7:50 boarding call. (Our flight to Puerto Princesa was due to leave at 8:30.) So there we were. Waiting. And waiting. Eventually the 7:50 came and went, but still the boarding signs did not show our flight. Darrell, went down to the gate to ask about it, and the attendent pointed to the flight on the screen and told him not to worry, our flight was next. At 8:00 I was a getting more than little worried so I turned to ... read more

Wednesday 10 Sept I caught a Cebu Pacific flight from Manila to Puerto Princesa on Palawan Island. It was the first time I'd seen an airline play a game on board. It was just of the kind; first to produce a particular object wins a prize. We landed at the Puerto Princesa airport which was quite small to say the least. There was a single guy sitting at a wooden table with a sign for foreigners to present their passports for checking. It was a bit hard to spot and most people just walked past him. I only saw him because I saw a couple of foreigners lining up. Anyway I caught a trike, for the standard 50 pesos, to the Hotel Fleuris. The airport is very close to the centre of town, just a few ... read more

Plans are made to be changed....I was originally going to be partying and playing golf this week around the Baltic Sea....but hey, can you explain to me what I would have done on my own in bars in Tallin or Vilnius, now that I've got a gorgeous new girlfriend...right...I'm sure you understand. So no Baltic Sea...and Welcome to the Sulu Sea, welcome to Tubbataha. First let me thank my friend Karim who gave me the tip about this place...great tip Karim...I'll be back and you should book your next trip! But if after reading this...you feel, let's jump on a plane to Manila...well, be patient, the season is off in less than 2 weeks...Tubbataha Reef is only open 3 to 4 months a year due to rough seas. So now you are all asking...where the ... read more

this is either the update you have all been waiting for, not the update you have been waiting for, or an update you have not at all been waiting for. foremost, as blogger, i ask your apology for my lack of punctuation and grammar. trust me, i usually use it consistently, but today i'm lazy. losing a 35 minute email in a split second doesn't help things any either. i'll make this short and summarize a bit. the conference in thailand was good. i was challenged and met a few international people to call my friends, from parts of philippines and one guy from north-east india. a highlight was attending a Hindu-style fellowship, which was more than interesting. i had the red dot on my forehead too. ask about it some day. back in palawan, we ... read more
