Well we tried to leave Manila but the typhoon wouldn’t let us. Our original flight was booked to Coron and then we would work our way down through Palawan and then fly back to Manila from Puerto Princesa. However, the typhoon meant no planes could fly to Coron but we managed to get on another flight that same day going to Puerto Princesa. This ended up being a bit of luck really because the route was now much more natural - heading up Palawan to finish in Manila again. Cebu Pacific didn’t charge anymore for this longer flight either, so it wasn’t all bad! We fly to Puerto in what can only be described as dense, black cloud – the whole way! It wasn’t a comfortable flight but you’ve got to hand it to Cebu Pacific ... read more

If we could have permit from Puerto Princesa we could have sailed Underground River more than four kilometers. But we visited about 2 km of the river by the permits from Sabang. It is discovered by a Russian in 1887 and announced as world herritage by Unesco ın 1999. It is an impressive geographical formation that we have not seen any like . We came from Port Barton to Sabang by a shared ( Poland couple) boat in three hours. We walked to the boat terminal for Underground River paying PHP 200 per pax for permit . We paid another 700 PHP for the boats to the Underground River and the boat in the river. After quick visit of the village we shared a jeepney to Puerto Princesa- 2 hours. We spent three nights at ... read more

... read more

We flew from Cebu to Puerto Princesa on feb 18th, a few hours ahead of my parents, who flew in from Manila. My parents had been planning on taking a 2 week vacation to meet steph and I wherever we might be in our trip, and they followed through! It was pretty cool to be able to meet up on the other side of the world like that. They even brought us rice crispy treats (steph ate them all in 2 days), and a bunch of Trader Joe's beef jerky (it's the best). Puerto princesa is by far the biggest city on Palawan Island, which is a long, skinny, undeveloped island in the western Philippines. Puerto princesa itself was not a big attraction to us, but the nearby Honda Bay made it worth staying one full ... read more

Puerto Princesa is the capital of Palawan and is where you can take most flights from Manila and Cebu. I stayed at D'Lucky Garden which is close to the airport, offers Wi-fi, accepts credit cards, and has a decent restaurant. Tours can be booked directly from the hotel. Honda Bay was the first tour where you visit 3 islands in one day. I went on a day that started off cloudy with showers and ended up stormy with wind and waves. Lucky for me I remembered my rain jacket which was useful especially with the waves crashing over the bow of the boat on the return to the mainland. As soon as the boat returned to the dock, everyone was wet and a bit chilled. The hotsprings, only about 1 or 2 km nearby, offered a ... read more

I was unfortunate enough to visit a Filipino jail house. My iPod had mysteriously vanished on a bus ride through the island of Cebu. It had dropped onto the floor and mysteriously found it's way into a fellow passenger's bag. Gone. So I had the dubious pleasure of sitting in the San Vicente Pulis Station for 2 hours while the casually dressed cop laboriously filled out a report. He was wearing the standard cop attire - shorts, thongs and a Philippine Idol tshirt. A big fuck-off pistol strapped very conspicuously on his hip served as the only hint that he was there in an official status. Well, that doesn't really explain much as many Filipino blokes seem to be carrying a pistol in the back of their shorts. For once it reassured me, as behind him ... read more

Hi all hope everyone is well back home. So the last time i wrote was about a week ago and i have been a busy little traveler since, so here we go. I left off last time that i was dying in the internet cafe from not sleeping and waiting for a ferry. So i went to the pictures and got out the film at about 3.30, the ferry left at 4. So i had to jump on the train and zip across Manila, then i had to get a trike through the city to the docks, thankfully this is the fastest way to travel round the streets and its cheap. Sadly they drive like maniacs and you cant really see out the window to judge just how bad the driving is. Its great fun, and ... read more

It was a friend and I who, on a wing, decided to visit the beautiful island of Palawan. Since everyone was either going to their own country/ province for the holiday, it seemed like the perfect time to venture our own motherland. Unfortunately since Palawan is home to the most beautiful beaches in the Philippines, flights were out of our student budget. In our desperation, we decided to take the cheap way, which was though the Super Ferry. For a little over 3000 pesos ($60) we arrived in Puerto Princesa (PP) after literally 30 hours. We departed the port in Manila at 4pm arrived in Corron, Palawan at 6am, then arrived in PP at 10pm. Prior to our departure we booked a place in El Nido. We read that walk- in reservations were pretty slim due ... read more
