We man we make fire
Our bonfire on the uninhabited island we camped on. Hi all so the last time I wrote I was waiting for a ferry to get off of Palawan Island, as you can see im still here but getting a flight 2mo as the ferry has engine difficulties so did not arrive.
Anyway since i last wrote I have had a very eventful week, first I had a few days really just going out and drinking alot with alot of guys I have met here at the Banwa Pensione, a really cool hostel and only 250p for a night in the dorm, so really good fun.
Its because of one of these guys Greg that i have ended up staying here so long, as we got into a conversation with him he started telling us of his life here in Palawan where he is currently living on an Island called Dumeron (i fink) where he is the only foreign traveler and he now took the total of visitors up to a whopping 3 as long as any of the locals can remember, so he invited us to cum and visit this place, from a travellers perspective there is no tourism infrastructure there, so you would be totally screwed if you
tried to go there, so I personally would not recommend it, as we were fortunate enough to have Greg there who knows a few people in the community. And this is how we came to live on the wooden floor above the only Bar in Araceli as he is a friend of Gregs and a total great bloke. A bonus about staying at the kareoke bar was the electric goes off at 1am so the kareoke had to stop, probably at a relief to us all.
So how my week went.
First me, Mark (sum1 i have been travelling with through Palawan) and Greg got the bangka over to the island and into Araceli port, Araceli is a quiet little town with only a handful of shops a basket ball court and the municiple hall which on the day we arrived, it was Ladies day so lots of music and 3 tall white guys definitely caused a stir when we walked through, lots of nervous giggles and hellos off the local ladies. So the first nite we drank in the kareoke bar and went for a walk when slightly drunk and found a big street party going on with
How cool is this?
And they all work the local men sitting with us and drinkin Tanduay the local Rhum. (Yep rum with a H) Needless to say we danced, even with the mayor of the island and people tryin to set us up with there daughters, quite funny. I ended the nite on a high after who knows how many shots, I was sick. Later found out most of the people there was watching me even the police, who made fun of mer after for not being able to handle it. So a very good first night.
During the day we went out by bangka to the unihabited islands that are rarely visited by the locals due to myths and tales of white lady and demons. Wen on the islands we snorkeled, spear fished and Greg actually fished with his rod. Caught a few good sized fish there and the coral itself is untouched, managed to catch sum lobster aswell which we had for dinner one night. Mainly chilled out during the days as each nite we wud be drinking again. Had a really good week.
Also camped out one nite on one of the uninhabited islands, had a massive bonfire which could been seen from the
Araceli, we even caught a little shark which was cool but put it back as we wasn gonna eat it. Also saw a couple of monitor lizards walking around the island wen i was sleeping under a tree, they look alot bigger when they are not in tanks and walking towards you, luckily they are more scared of me than me of them.
So why i was there i was eating the freshest of sea food, marlon, crab, lobster, tuna and GT all caught that day, was great fun and met some really good people while we was there, one criticism i did have was that James the owner of the bar killed his pigs at 5am, and the noise of a dying pig is deafening, quite possibly one of the most gruesom noises i have ever heard, although it did mean very fresh pork for breakfast at 9am. So i cant complain and he was an amazing cook, as he is also the cook and body guard for the mayor.
So my time in Araceli was great especially all the kids who would hang on every word we spoke, sum nights we had about 20 kids all round us trying to talk to us and practice there english, also there was a kid who had 6 functional fingers on each hand, that was cool if not a little confusing wen ur slightly drunk. And the locals were sure we was there for gold and the beautiful ladies, cos why would sum1 come here to visit the crystal blue waters of the islands? Had a real traveling experience which i feel lucky to have received, definitely memories i will treasure for ever of the kindness that we was shown by some people in the village, who had little but was happy to give to us, very humbling.
So anyway that was last week i only done a brief story of it as to go into detail would take to long. But im sure you will all hear stories of the place one day.
So now im back in Puerto princesa last nite 2nite with my mate Mark so will prob be a messy one and them im off to Cebu to meet a friend to travel around there for a week and a bit, before sadly heading out of the philippines and onto the next part of traveling with Mr Mong. Should be interesting.
So hope every1 is well, im about to go check on my washing which i hand washed (yes i have washed my own clothes again) i really am a changed man. Ha
Speak soon. : )
