I've always adored an aquarium and the thought of going IN it is remarkable! I only see these creatures on television and seeing it today in person makes me so excited! Manila Ocean Park has a lot to offer. It has a function room for special events, an education activity area, and a bi-level shark and stingray viewing facilities. The OCEANARIUM is for me, the best place to be acquainted with the beautiful sea-creatures God has made. It is dubbed as one of the world's best public aquariums. As we entered the hallway, various ocean creatures greeted us. There are about 5,000 marine creatures in OCEANARIUM and to my dismay, I could only name a few. Armed with healthy eyes and a camera, I was able to take pictures of my new-found-sea-creature acquaintances. I hope to ... read more

"A Fort. A Prison dungeon. A History" My heart thumped as I entered to the 2,030 feet 16th century military defense structure...What thrills me most is the history behind every corners of the fort. It was first built by Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, a Spanish conquistador. During the Spanish Colonial Period and World War 2, it served as a fort, a mighty fortress and a prison. As of today, it is reconstructed and preserved and is one of the most famous historical landmarks in the country. One of the highlights of the fort is the Rizal Shrine. Jose Rizal, Philippines' national hero, was imprisoned here and has spent his last night before he marched out to face his death, his execution in Luneta. His sculptures, his manuscripts and books, his clothes and all other various memorabilia ... read more

Kuala Lumpur So after a 7 hour flight from Tokyo (where we actually fly past Manila) we have to transit in KL (Malaysia) for 13 hours before flying the 2,000 or so kms back to Manila. So much for cheap travel and airlines doing their bit for Global warming. The airport lounge is pretty deserted at 4.30am when we arrive – a few eateries and one Duty Free store is open surprisingly. KL airport transit lounge looks familiar by now – we’ve been through it often enough. The plan for the day is to see if we can go into KL and do a city tour on a Hop on Hop off bus and get back for our flight to Manila at 5.30 pm. However, we get carried away doing the blog update and ... read more

Our next stop from Palawan was Manila. Not my favourite place to say the least. Our hostel was nice, had a rooftop swimming pool with a nice view overlooking Manila. That was the only nice part of the city however. It is extremely poor, under developed, dirty, hot and with not much to offer in terms of sights. We only stayed in Manila a night and used it more as a link to get from one place to another. We did however meet two guys, one brit and one German who travelled with us to Banaue, home of the rice terraces. If you plan to travel to the terraces try and book your bus ticket a day before in peak seasons but you should be able to find a hostel once you arrive in Banaue. We ... read more

You've just been robbed of all your money and credit cards, still six hours’ travel from the city you fly out from in three days, without the means to pay the bus fare, the outstanding hotel bill, or even the airport departure tax. This poses a problem at the best of times. Add to that the fact it just so happens to be freaking Thanksgiving in your bank’s country of residence, 8,000 miles away, and you’re in a spot of bother. So here's a spoiler: my third trip the Philippines ended almost as badly as it began. The bit in the middle wasn’t short on events either... In the beginning… Singapore’s urban transport system is clean and efficient, as you would expect, so we sought to exploit this by cutting our arrival at the airport very ... read more

We arrived back in Manila at the unearthly hour of 5am and took a taxi straight to a 24 hour ‘café’ where we tried to wake ourselves up with coffee and wondered what would lay in store for us today. What should we do with 12 hours to kill in a sprawling city that we had tried to avoid? Arrange to meet up with non-other than Manila expert and Travelblogger LilyRam (Tita/Aunty Lily) of course! We were so excited to finally meet her and were really looking forward to seeing what the city had to offer, and after catching up over more coffee we set off for the day. Our first stop was the old walled city of Intramuros, a 25 minute drive from upscale Makati. This area had a strong sense of history which we ... read more

I've joked about it before but I really do love chilling in airports. I don't know why but I love to just people watch and roam around, curl up in a ball and fall asleep w somewhere and wake up the hustle of bustle maneuvering around you. Eating creepy food you pay to much for and always o. A quest to find and outlet or bathroom or cheaper crappier food. It's probably sounds sarcastic but its not. I really do enjoy me a good night in an airport. That is exactly what I'm doing. I've been in the Manila International Airport, Terminal 1 since 3 am. It is currently 1:40pm and my flight leaves at 3:05 pm. you see I took a bus in from Sagada which arrived in Manila at 3 am. I refuse to ... read more

Back on the road again! And after a relatively short 3hflight from Bangkok I arrived in Manila, the capital city of the 7000-island archipelago known as the Philippines. Pretty much the first thing that hit me about the country was what others had warned me about -- the ubiquity of guns here. In short, they're everywhere. Not just guards with the Remington pump guns at the banks, but even those in uniform with their revolvers standing at the doors of just about every other shop, including fast food joints and convenience stores! To borrow from Dorothy's quote from the Wizard of Oz, "I don't think we're in Bangkok anymore". Or any other normal city that I've visited on my travels so far, for that matter! It's impossible to ... read more

The trip to Manila was a classic, lots of motorbikes , ferries , buses , stress confusion, rows nearly tears , planes and taxis. I Finally landed in Manila , hotel booked and went to grab a cab. The couple I was going to meet were really nice , Arthie and his wife Sheila I had met them at Subic Bay whilst diving and we met most eveings and drunk and ate a lot together, both worked for a call center dealing with complaints from loans for a company inthe USA , so these were the people working for the departments that outsourse thier work to Asia , that is so wrong but good for the Asian people and they openly admit not to understanding most of the conversations on the phone ! They kept warning ... read more
