Our visit to Nepal is Limited to Kathmandu Valley. Actually young heros trek over white paths of Himalayas with heavy trekking eguipments. Very little has changed since 1972, except the crowd and the traffic. Instead of freak area now developed a commercial zone Thamel. The culture of dirt and bumbing streets are same but ladies ımproved their make up, traditionaly black lines on their eyes. But lovely people trying to help you at all circumstances. Each day we visited one interest. Bhaktapur, Swayambhunath , Boudhanat and Durbar Square. Every night we had delicious dinner at different places in Thamel. While we were visiting Durbar Square Kumari, living Goddess of Nephal people appeared at the window for a few minutes. They didn't allow us to take picture of her. Pictures may describe the rest in Kathmandu Valley. ... read more

During my Eid holidays from work in Bangladesh I flew up to Nepal for a week with my friend Catherine's family. She married into a Nepalese family almost ten years ago and has been encouraging me to go visit them ever since. Even though she couldn't get away from work this year, her husband Santosh came from London for the festival of Dashian, also known as Durga Puja. I was so fortunate to have Santosh’s family take such good care of me all week. I arrived from Bangladesh with the end of a terrible cold and lingering cough. They prepared endless cups of tea for me, sometimes using ginger from their garden to calm the cough. I stayed in a beautiful room with big windows on three sides, looking out onto the hills up the valley. ... read more

The following blog may be a tad long winded, or include details that seem somewhat mundane. We have written this blog mainly for ourselves, so that we can recall the events of our trip. Feel free to read as much, or as little as you want; you can just look at the pictures, or you can not look at them at all! For those interested, enjoy! Up, up, and awaaaait a minute….. “Aaaactually your flight has been delayed and you won’t be flying out for another two days” Normally this would anger a traveler, but when you are eating seafood chowder and staying at the Fairmont hotel on the airlines dime, its hard to get too upset. We had a delightful two days at the airport Fairmont, walking the seawall, having drinks with family and friends, ... read more

Following the Annapurna Circuit, we spent another night in Pokhara, mostly driving around town on a motorbike. I then fulsomely ate, including a masterfully prepared yak steak in spicy garlic sauce at Everest Steakhouse, and drank my favorite Asian beer, Nepali Ice - quite possibly in the top ten beers of my life, a station of prominence I never fathomed an Asian beer would achieve. We visited a sleepy Tibetan Village, then relaxed at a café near the lake, taking in a traditional Nepali dance show in the evening. All in all, it was a nice day, though the dance show was decidedly halfhearted with a couple of the female dancers seemingly yearning to be elsewhere as they intermittently picked their nails and vacuously stared out into space. The male dancers, on the other hand, were ... read more

Bodhnath lies in Boudha, a district that is home to a large community of Tibetan refugees and the area is crawling with activity; robed monks of all ages make their way clockwise around the stupa, women in traditional Tibetan dress spin the numerous prayer wheels that surround the base, butter lamps are produced and lit, locals feed pigeons and children chase them, all underneath the watchful gaze of Buddha's all-seeing eye.... read more

Vipassana. Ten days of silent meditation. Ten days of no talking, no writing writing materials, no communication in any form. No technology. Ten hours of meditation a day, for ten days. No friends, no contact with the outside world. All other religious practices were to be suspended. Two and a half meals a day. One must abstain from killing, stealing, lying, sexual misconduct and the use of intoxicants. Have I mentioned ten hours of meditation, every day? Vipassana is one of the most ancient meditation techniques. Long lost to humanity, it was rediscovered by Guatama the Buddha more than 2,500 years ago. It is the essence of what he practiced and taught during his forty-five year ministry. However, five centuries after the Buddha, Vipassana disappeared from India. The purity of the technique was lost. In the ... read more

Double Rainbow Farm When you're travelling you get the chance to meet some fantastic like minded people. Backpackers with experience. Backpackers who know things that you don't. People, new friends that can inform you of information you may never have found out otherwise. On this trip there are too many wonderful people to thank for informing me of some amazing opportunities that have now become integral parts of my travel. I only hope I have returned the favour somewhere along the way. Insert Chrissy from England. Chrissy is a beautiful person, full of charisma, always with a huge smile spread across her face, one so infectious that you can't help but feel happy around her. Sunday 14th April As we sat in the dining room at Lukla's Paradise lodge on Saturday having lunch at the end of the trek, we got chatting to another group of trekkers there. They had been due to fly out of Lukla that morning back to Kathmandu but planes had stopped landing after about 9am. We had heard a couple of days earlier that there was a large forest fire to the south of Lukla which was causing some problems for aircraft, but the winds around Lukla were also a bit stronger than normal. In the event there were no more plane flights out of Lukla on the Saturday though helicopters were still arriving and leaving regularly. We had been told that that we were booked on an early flight today so we were up early, ... read more
