MALDIVES.Lies in the middle of Indian Ocean, this beautiful country is composed of 26 atolls ( ring-shaped coral reef including a coral rim that encircles a lagoon partially or completely). The visa is upon arrival for most nationalities. You can check online if you need to apply for a visa beforehand just to be safe. The currencies they accept are USD and their own: Maldivian rufiyaa . JULY TRAVEL. We flew to Maldives from Dubai via Sri Lankan Airline. The flight duration was approximately 8 hours, 2-hour lay-over in Colombo. Personally, I enjoyed the flight (it was my first time to fly in the said airline), not to mention it is way cheaper compared to Emirates Airline. My boyfriend traveled 5 days before me since he went scuba diving. He did 8 dives in the span ... read more

Geo: 4.1742, 73.5109We arrived in port very early. When we looked out from our balcony we were surrounded by cranes and container ships. This was not a cruise ship terminal but a working commercial port. We were told that due to taxi regulations no shuttle buses would run until 11am and it was a 20 minute walk to the gate. We had breakfast and then left the ship about 8-30am. There were some stalls set up on the dock and we stopped and each bought a shirt and a little Sri Lankan elephant to add to our collection. There were also some taxi drivers offering tours but when we enquired the charge was $40 for an hour. We then started walking. After about five minute we came across another group of taxis. A couple had negotiated ... read more

Geo: 4.1748, 73.5089Finishing off our incredible honeymoon in the Maldives was one of the best ideas ever! All inclusive for 5 nights in this amazing setting was definitely an amazing experience and memory. We stayed at The Meeru Resort which is an hour boat ride direct from the airport. Our accommodation was an Overwater Jacuzzi Bungalow and the views were incredible!! We never got sick of the views! Our room was great! Heaps of different marine life would swim by our room, reef sharks, trumpet fish, stingrays, squid and heaps of other varieties of fish, unfortunately no turtles ha.Five days was already amazing but we wished we had more time. We spent our days relaxing on the beach and doing some activities. We went kayaking, we took a scenic flight over the islands which was so beautiful. We took ... read more

My friend and I were able to find affordable flights and accommodations from Jakarta. Our flight route went from Jakarta to Sri Lanka and from Sri Lanka to the Maldives. Once we landed in the Maldives we were escorted to a private speedboat which took us to our island for the week. The boat ride from the airport to the island was about 45min long. The resort we stayed at made up the whole island so we felt like we were on a private get-away. We had a beach bungalow and could see the ocean from our deck. The time of year we went was perfect as it was the end of the low season but one week away from the peak season opening. There were others at the resort with us BUT so often we ... read more

It was an unexpected journey, after a long period of attending interviews after interviews. I got selected as an English teacher in Shaviyani Atoll, Republic of Maldives on 6th January 2006. The beautiful island nation came to our view as the Indian Airlines flight landed on the floating runway of the Hulhule international airport. The major attraction of the island is the cool, friendly behavior of the people, besides the small islands surrounded by corals and the clear, blue sea. I stayed for nearly a week in the capital Male and gained a firsthand experience of the different lifestyle of those wonderful people. People are generally lucky, though Maldives is not a developed country. Tourists from Europe and other Asian countries and from Africa and the America visit Maldives to experience the beautiful location of the ... read more

For a couple of nights we have been sat next to young families, both having 3 young children 6mth to 4yrs, not really a problem and something we can both relate too. as I sit there remembering the days and wondering did I look as tried as she, the waiter on both evenings asks us if we want to move, which we poliety turn down, as children will be children. So the following evening we are guided upstairs to the end of the restaurant to a secluded corner behind bars over looking the ocean, oh how romantic i think! Well would believe such a think as Keith being in trouble? We have missed a couple of lunches, what you've got to understand is there is so much food, it at least 3 courses every meal! At ... read more

Day 4 Well, hi again from Laamu Atoll. Headline News ... Sea grass has come ashore on the beach over night, locals are busy clearing it up. Not much else to report actually !!! This place is amazing. The island is no more that 500 meters by 150 meters and managed by Six Sense Resort. It has water villas located on the ocean side and beach villas on the lagoon side. Going bare foot around the island is encouraged and dress how you want, There are also bikes for guests to use to get around the island, in fact resort staff use tricycles to carry towels, etc. for rooms. Golf buggies, wooden hand carts and people walk and drive on the left down the leafy lane, all very civilised. In the heat of the day the ... read more
