My humble tips for Maldives.
I haven't been in Red Sea but Maldives is a paradise for scuba divers, honey moon couples.
Many small islands, where you may walk all around the islands in max. 30 minutes. Nearly no agriculture and all the food is coming from India, Sri Lanka...even drink water. So, prices are quite expensive. You may take diving lessons and get a international PADI certification easily. Underwater is just fantastic...would be good if you go with an underwater camera.
If you go with a partner non-scuba diver, I would advise you to do 1 week in Maldives & 1 week Sri Lanka. ( Unless you don't make your partner also become a scuba diver. 😊. There are some cheap flights Male/Colombo. Well...a little tip for Sri Lanka, unique peacefull beach there is at Galle( South of Colombo and no problem there.) and 5klm after to Unawatuna beach. ( Hikkaduwa is not bad too. )
Hope it helps. Take care & happy divings.

Reply to this the word "cheap" and Maldives does not go together, I do agree Maldives is a paradise for Scuba but very expensive.
Reply to this Maldives is an expensive destination, but if you really paln well you can have your holiday in maldives at half price.
lots of Maldivian luxury brands of hotels are offering promotional prices, and free nights and discounts, free excursions, dinners. and i advice you to travel before 15th of December so you can have a holiday for a fraction of what your holiday budget to Maldives
Reply to this I agreed with maldivestraveller, my wife and I went to maldives for our anniversary last Dec 7 and we got great deals from 4 star island resorts, to air transit to and back from the island, diving excursions and spa treatments. You just have to plan at least 3 months ahead of time and there are plenty of promotions offering by brand name resorts. We stayed at the Chaaya reef resort and their spa treatment was just heaven like, especially their essential oils body rub with CanaCare essential oils. Overall, it was the best trip we have taken at an affordable price.
Reply to this Just back from there....check our profile for last blog.
Simple point...Maldives is not chea and will never been....thought they are ways to cut the corners.....some pay a lot to get what they want....some do better homeworks.....but at the end of the day, if you want cheap, you are in the wrong place...
Small note of warnings for those reading this thread....it's better to read posters with a proper existing profile....and blog entries...
Reply to this There are a number of great places to dive in South East Asia that are alot cheaper than the Maldives, but none quite so romantic. Maldives is great for that special occasion be it a proposal or 30th Wedding anniversary. Would highly recommend the Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru for a perfect island with one of the best house reefs. For uber luxury, I like Soneva Gili, The One & Only and Four Seasons Landa Giravaru. For those on a budget, try The Angsana, the twin island of Vabbinfaru.
For divers, I recommend going in October when the Manta Rays visit the atolls to feed.
