Wednesday started out relaxing and easy-going since we were up late the night before. With only two days left, this day was assigned "Lost In Translation." Michi and I got fancied up and headed out on the town. Our particular destination was the Park Hyatt Hotel, the gorgeous luxury hotel featured in the film. Our plan was to have a drink in the bar towards the top, and Michi was pretty sure there was a dress code - no jeans - so she sported a nice dress, while I donned some black pants and the tight (but still hopefully respectable) black shirt I bought in Kyoto. We took the train to Harahjuku first to pick up the pair of jeans I bought at Zara earlier in the week. They hem them there. Great jeans. Great ... read more

In Tokyo Asia » Japan » Tokyo » Shinjuku By Steve SarahMay 18th 2007S&S We arrived yesterday in Tokyo after a pretty normal flight from Seattle. We are super surprised on how clean and orderly everything is...from a pit crew of people loading your luggage onto the bus to English signs on everything. We just keep stumbling around and magically appear where we want to go. Last night was a bit of sightseeing around our hotel in Shinjuku and today we ventured onto the subway to see the largest fish market in the world ($15m worth of fish every day) this morning and eat sushi breakfast (actually not as good as Seattle and... read more

Konichiwa! It is Tuesday evening, around 1830 hours, second day into the trip. Michi's was having some issues with the net, but lucky me it's up and running again. The flight over was uneventful. First time on a 777 - pretty large plane. I paid a little extra at the gate for "economy plus" seating, which basically means the first section of econmy seats have a little extra leg room and they can charge more. A 10 hour flight was worth it. I arrived Monday afternoon local time, and was surprsingly not too jet lagged. Customs was a breeze, and the first thing I noticed was how imaculate the airport was. Of course, absolutely wonderful to walk out to the arrivals area and be greeted by Michi. Considering the train to Tokyo was another hour ride, ... read more

Shinjuku station is one of the busiest in the World with over 2 million people a day passing through it - it was massive! And we got lost!Again! After a long trek through the underground paths we emerged into the skyscraper district of Tokyo and found our way to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building where you are able to go up to the 45th floor to a viewing area and look out over the city. The view was incredible and, supposedly on a clear day you should be a... read more

Hi everyone, As you are aware we have now embarked and safely arrived in Japan for the first leg of our epic round the world honeymoon. Having landed in Tokyo (Narita) on Tuesday we have had a couple of days getting over the jet lag and seeing and experiencing metropolitan Japan. We have always been excited about Japan and, having read up on the country and Tokyo, we were looking forward to the land of the rising sun, the meeting of east and west and the place where traditional meets modern! We were not to be disapointed and have in many aspects started this trip with a country i know will always have a special place in our hearts (and we are only 3 days in!). Anyway, taking a couple of steps back, the first night of ... read more

Tokyo. How should I describe it? Busy, crowded or expensive. I will say busy, and crowded, but definitely not al that expensive. We arrived in Narita Airport and breezed through customs (so much easier than Hong Kong) and the airport is so clean, as we found was the rest of the city. The next thing we had to do was find an ATM, however we found this to be a problem because there is lots of them about but very few that will take foreign cards with the Cirrus or Maestro symbols, and the same for downtown Tokyo! We bought our tickets for the Limousine bus and in true Japanese procedure queued for the bus, every bus was arriving on time so much noise but exciting. The trip took 2 hours to Shinjuku, a lot of ... read more

One of our goals for this trip has been to have a drink in the bar from Lost in Translation. This morning, while at the cyber café, we did a little research and found that it was in the Park Hyatt Hotel in Shinjuku. After getting back from Tokyo Tower, we changed into suits and had a glass of scotch before heading out. The Park Hyatt was about a kilometer from the subway, but unlike American hotels, there were no glowing signs outside to indicate which building it was. After a few strolls through the lobby of the building it was most likely in, we found a sign pointing to the entrance for the Hyatt and went up. By this time we were totally in character: the bar is quite fancy and we didn’t want to ... read more

after breakfast the same toast set breakfast in asukasa we headed to the Internet cafe to post on this thing. we looked up the location of the melt banana show and i checked where to find bikkembergs in japan. both were in shinjuku. using a mix of map-following and random direction picking we found barneys - no bikkembergs, but they had trovata. we wandered around trying to find LUSH using the same method- this time it didn't work. we stopped in a guitar shop and a japanese guy was playing far beyond the sun. he even looked a bit like yngwie - just less chubby and less sweedish. we asked them where LUSH was and they had no idea. later we found a record shop and asked them. they didn't know either. this must be a ... read more

we took the subway to shinjuku first to wander around the city. it was a pretty short ride. we got there and found some large brick monuments covered in ivy - no idea what they are. it was pretty crowded. lots of shops. there were no elephants allowed in shinjuku. we ducked down an shady cyberpunk-looking alley and thought we found a japanese video game / video shop. The had clothes stuffed and holding signs with halloween masks. it was pretty creepy. even creepier since it turned out to be a porn shop about 5 stories high. we got a few stares when we came out. i guess it was pretty clear to everyone else on the street. we found club sega - a 4 story arcade with all sega games. we played time crisis 3 ... read more
