Before I kinda go into whatever it is I may write about, I have tons (ok, hundreds) more pics up on my photo site here: http://jetsetseattle.zoto.com/galleries ----no reading involved!! What’s it been, three, three and a half weeks? I wish I could post on this blog more, but internet access is sort of few and far between for me. Or else I have to pay out of the nose for it. Speaking of which, I’m kind of sick of paying out of my nose for everything here. I’m sitting in a café that has kinda cheap coffee. 300yen ($2.80) for a 10oz. cup of black. A steal! I’ve experienced a lot of different parts of Tokyo/Japan in these past couple of weeks. In the same day, I went to a Taiko Matsuri (traditional Japanese Shinto drum ... read more

Privacy has never been of any real importance to us on this trip. Dorm beds are the norm or even 3 in a bed when Michael was here, but this is being typed in perhaps the coolest accomodation we have stayed in yet......a "Manga Cafe". This is a 24 internet cafe in which you hire a private (well it has half walls and a saloon door) booth for the night, complete with DVD, Play Station, bottomless soft drinks and, of course, broadband. Strangely and unexpectedly in Japan you have little choice when it comes to internet. No longer does the standard internet cafe (log on free for 15 mins when you buy a coffee, something that sounds so advanced back home) exist. Nope. No Skype, No cafe's, no phone booths and UK mobiles we have heard ... read more

Japan has 122 Railway companies, 13 Subways, 11 Monorails, 21 Tram systems, 1 Trolleybus and 12 new transport systems coming on line. The Tsukuba Express Railway Company is the newest subway train company. Everything about this company and it's infrastructure is technically advanced and modern. The Sumida river and a number of water canals still form an important part of Tokyo's industrial life. Witnesses are the same all over the world!... read more

Signing off From Tokyo So team, it time to sign off from Tokyo and what a wonderful adventure it has been. Looking back at the 3 months, I can't believe I've had so many great opportunities and luck. Challenging, but rewarding job; great bunch of people at my apartment; new Japanese friends through work; opportunity to visit my old host family and friends again and a chance to live everyday life in Tokyo, one of the world's most alive and dynamic cities. So here is my partner in crime, the very hansom Dominic Salomoni signing in...! ;) Dom Signing In... So “we” spent 6 nights and 7 days together in Tokyo and they were action packed! From the Fuji TV Tower which is a space age looking media building to Mount Fuji to the Temple's ... read more

Just a short update, I'm killing some time. Had a bit of a hectic morning, sleeping-in, then having to rush and get showered, pack up my things and do a load of laundry before the 10am check-out time. Then booked it down to shinjuku to check into this place. Just checked into a pod hotel, it's a little sketch, but kinda cool. Think of a mortuary where they have that wall of doors that they keep the bodies in. And for some reason, they don't allow anyone with any kind of tattoo's, real or fake. It really is something out of the 5th Element. Bascially an oversized coffin, complete with tv, radio, alarm clock. I've got some pics but will have to wait to upload them. Spent another day in Shinjuku, went to the park, took ... read more

My family (Dad, Mom, Gramma and Aunt Sue) visited Japan for a week....and it was a great vacation! It was a first visit to Japan for all of them, so we had ambitious plans of what to accomplish in such a short time. We started in Tokyo and traveled to the Mt. Fuji/Hakone region, Nara and Kyoto, and finished in Hiroshima. We saw and did so many things that there is too much to mention in one blog entry....so I've divided it into four. Enjoy the pictures, and have a read of our family vacation. Tokyo Our first day in Tokyo was meant to be relaxed, so everyone could recover from such a long flight. However, we ended up keeping ourselves really busy. We first visited the Tokyo Metropolitan Governmental Offices, which are the tallest buildings ... read more

Again, like Harajuku, we have already been to Shinjuku more than once... The first was not too eventful, but fun nonetheless. On this first trip to Shinjuku, Larry had to drop off some paperwork for his job, so we headed out later in the afternoon by train. After about an hour ride, and taking care of Larry's work business, we were able to start wandering the streets. We did a little shopping here and then browsed through a couple of electronics stores as well. We also found my favorite bear character walking along the streets and stopped him for a few pictures. Isn't he so cute??!? After working up an appetite shopping, we both decided it was time to start looking for a place to have dinner. We were NOT disappointed when we found the SIZZLER!! ... read more
