Deciding to leave Bali today to travel east to an island called Lombok - after a bit of haggling I got a price I was happy with for a return journey to and from the island. Setting my alarm for 05.30 for another early start and being driven to Padang bai ( about 2hrs from Seminyak on the east coast) and waiting for what seemed like ages for a boat - we were finally on our way! Arriving an hour later ( the public boat taking 5hrs!) and being offered a motorbike ride with my heavy bags to the hotel for 60,000 rupiah - £3 I didn't think was too bad. Arrived at the hotel to be greeted by really friendly staff, so after I unpacked my bags I headed out to find the local shops ... read more

After a week in Bali, I headed to Lombok. Lombok is a beautiful island and a bit less developed tourist-wise than Bali. I took the local ferry early in the morning from Padang Bai, and it took three and a half hours to get to Lembar. The ferry ride provides wonderful views of Bali and the waters separating the two islands. The day I crossed, the weather was perfect—warm air with a cool breeze and sunshine throughout the crossing. In Lombok, I mostly relaxed and unwound, not doing too many things. I stayed in Senggigi, a beach town just north of the capital, Mataram, during my stint in Lombok. Though the town didn’t offer a lot, I greatly enjoyed staying there as a jumping off point to the rest of the sights within the island. In ... read more

On our final day in Australia we set off from our hotel near Cairns airport at 4am as our 2 hour flight to Brisbane left at 5.45, this was the start of a very long day; three flights in a row. Just before going through security Freya realised she had left her iPad in the hire car, causing the first of three sprints that Stuart would do that day. Luckily after racing back to the car drop off point, Stuart was able to recover the iPad and return it to a very relieved Freya. During a toilet stop at Brisbane airport Stuart got separated from Rebecca, Abby and Freya which resulted in very nearly missing the next flight - only a last minute dash to get on the plane stopped us from nearly missing the flight. ... read more

Well it's been 3 months and I am writing our last travel blog for 2014. In one way the time has gone by quickly but it seems like we have been away forever! Our two weeks on Lombok has been a great way to end our trip with lots of R & R and time for enjoying the local people and exploring the island. I have determined the climate is perfect on Lombok. It's hot but there doesn't seem to be that intense heat that can tire you out. Perhaps the humidex isn't as high? There always seems to be a gentle breeze that keeps it a little cooler. it's very enjoyable sitting on the pool deck overlooking the ocean. We haven't had any rain this week which is typical this time in April as the ... read more

Our final Indonesian travel destination found us on the island of Lombok which is only a 30 min flight or 1 1/2 fast boat ride from Bali. We came from the Gili Islands which took 30 minutes on a speed boat. The island is about the same size as Bali but much less developed which is kind of refreshing. The main religion is Muslim as opposed to the dominant Hinduism in Bali. We're back to chanting from the mosques! We opted to stay on the west coast area of Sengiggi as it seems to be the most popular spot for tourists. The area spans 10 km of a series of sweeping bays below a backdrop of jungle clad mountains and coconut palms. The beaches are lovely but aren't quite a match for the white sand beaches ... read more

"Eh mate! You lost weight bro!" que me dira Angeli, la massothérapeute que j'avais prit l'habitude d'aller voir sur Legian Road. Normal ça. C'est ce que ça fait donc de manger trop souvent du riz et des nouilles dans cette chaleur tropicale... et puis de transpirer sa vie à chaque respiration aussi. Comme il me reste plus ou moins une semaine en Indonésie, je décide de faire un dernier grand saut et de ... read more

We spent the first two nights in Tugu hotel north of the island. Very nice, antique laden hotel with incredible food. After day two I was a little bored, it's off the beaten track and you don't get a feel of the island staying here. However, the food was to die for - thank you London foodie for the recommendation and thanks Kate for sending on the article. When we left the hotel the staff (who were the nicest people on the planet) saw us off in style. We were given a lovely terracotta ash-tray and when we turned around to wave goodbye from the taxi, we found them standing in the driveway, waving little British flags at us! Suddenly felt like how the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge must feel when they campaign around the ... read more

... read more

After being dropped back in Sengigi and despite our desire to just sleep, we showered and headed for the pool! Unfortunately for us we booked into a hotel on a massive hill, and were given a room at the top of a massive hill....so this was painful! On the evening we went for a lovely meal on the beach and had a nice early night ready for moving back to Bali again tomorrow. We have now realised that hungover boat rides = no fun at all. On waking up the next day...the real pain started! We groaned our way down the hill for breafast and even more so to the taxi! Then we winced our way along the walkway to the boat and onto the boat. Unfortunately for us we had not managed to book a ... read more
