Geo: -8.72412, 115.17I haven't uploaded pics in 2 weeks, sorry about that. I have some great shots from Lovina Beach, the sunsets there are unreal, and also some cools pics from the EIGHT scuba dives I did there. I even got the disposable underwater camera developed here in Kuta (1 hour shop, who knew!). So the next day it rains, or one night when there is nothing going on I'll spend some time and augment the last few weeks posts with their accompanying pics.I've been having a great time in Kuta, it's like a break from traveling really. Just like a vacation from my vacation. Everything here is Western and easy, Starbucks, McDonald's, beach town shops selling sarongs and sunscreen. The nightlife is great, tons of great restaurants and bars, and the best bit is - ... read more

Ok, I havn't been able to write a blog for a week now so this will be a long blog, coupled with the fact that im not sure what day i did what on should make it interesting. On friday night we went to a bar. We played jenga for a bit and listened to an indonesian band play english songs. This was quite amusing as alot of the words were incorrect. Then suddenly I relised that the football draw for the champions league was being drawn so i got the bar to change the channel to see liverpool had drawn arsenal, which pleased me greatly, oh and possibly chelsea in the semis which will be even better :-). On a side note i've tried my best to do alot of research on who people in ... read more

Geo: -8.72412, 115.17Today was just a travel and errands day. I took a 9am shuttle from Lovina to Kuta, and shared the ride with a nice couple from England that have been traveling for a few months as well. They were just in Thailand and Cambodia so I picked their brains for good spots to hit. The more I lean of it, the more I think I want to take a side trip from my planed route to Cambodia to see Ankor Wat. All I've heard from travelers is it's a must see. So maybe I must!I had a little trouble getting settled into a hotel when I arrived here in Kuta. I was planning to stay at the same resort that Sha and her friends are at, but when I arrived it was all booked, ... read more

I've finaly left sri-lanka. It's kinda hard to believe and it's taking some adjusting. For example, I'm now learning how to ride a motorbike. In bali here, you dont have a choice or any-other method of getting to the breaks so... I'm learning. I wouldn't say that bali or kuta in particular is the best place to learn but so far so good and no accidents. The waves have been alright so far. I wouldn't say that theyve been better then in sri-lanka but this is the way it goes. You can honestly see htough how good the waves could be if just the swell would change or pick-up a little but that'll come soon. For now, my ankle is as swollen as can be from a little well placed knock of the board write on ... read more

Dalton and I left Houston with bellies full of buffalo burgers on Sunday, Feb 10, 2008. Flying through Phoenix, we arrived without incident at LAX, where I ran into a friend from Brazil, Guilherme. I couldn't believe he recognized me from across the airport after 7 years. Guilherme was on his way to Australia and we promised to catch up via email. We arrived in Taipei to bad news and not even the free custard steam buns could lift my spirits. While we were flying, the President of East Timor, Jose Ramos-Horta, had been shot and was in critical condition. As I was to fly to Timor on Friday, this posed a bit of a problem. But we soldiered on, and were upgraded to Business Class on our Taipei-Bali flight. Dalton took to it and declared ... read more

Pretty much as soon as we arrived in Bali we needed to locate a dentist for William who had a cracked tooth that happened shortly before our departure of the U.S. The right side of his face was swollen up along with his gum in that area, not to mention some pain. We found a clinic in Denpasar, the largest city of Bali, that looked good from what we saw on their website. It wasn't quite so impressive and modern as it looked in the photos but overall, pretty up to date. There was one common waiting area with reception and working rooms for 6 or 7 dentists around that. Each dentist seemed to have his own room. The (dead) tooth came out quickly and easily and then William talked to the dentist about cost and ... read more

Ok, so welcome to our last blog from Bali. We are flying out to Tokyo tonight at 5 to midnight! YUK! Since our last entry we have spent much time sleeping, swimming, eating (sounds a lot like our last post huh?), browsing the shops and stalls and catching up with Toby and his family for little Tasya's 3rd birthday. It's been bliss! Almost a week ago we left Ubud and moved onto our next hotel in Sanur beach, however all did not go as expected... There seems to be a charming custom at Bali hotels to greet the guest with a cold drink. Usually a delicious fruit juice blend from our (limited) experience. This was no different upon arrival at our hotel in Sanur except the drink appeared to be a weak mix of Bi-Lo's finet ... read more

Hello, Who would have guessed that out of all of the airports we have been to, that bali would be the first one to really test us! We arrived after a late but short flight, and we had arranged a pick up from the hotel that we were staying at, so it would be waiting for us when we arrived. But we really couldn't believe how long it took us to get through customs and passport control. First, we joined one queue not realising we were in the wrong one because we had to buy a visa so we asked where we should get that from as there were so many queues. We got told to go to another riduculously long line of people, here we waited and waited barely moving, until a guy from another ... read more

It's been well over a week since we've been in Bali and I've left it until now to write something, largely because there is very little to do here, except if you're a surfer or a perennial sunbather. I'm neither (although I did try my hand at bodyboarding, which is very tough on my skin and elbow!!) so I was left with Bali's main attractions, all of which seemed to be Hindu temples - the most spectacular being Tanah Lot in sunset. Bali conjured up images of a paradise before I came here. I was very disappointed with the dirty beaches and many touts and tourists here, and there are many things I could complain about - the brashness; the rampant commercialization; the noise; the pollution; the women lying in alleyways with their babies at night ... read more
