As the temperature gets chillier in many Northern Hemisphere countries, tropical destinations such as Bali seem all the more attractive. With their bona fide friendly nature and ingenious for hospitality, the Balinese make the island an even more popular destination to beachcombers in search of sun, sand and surf. Bali also has a variety of beach options to suit every kind of traveler. There are the popular surf spots of Kuta and Legian, the luxurious and private shores of Nusa Dua, the chic and romantic Seminyak beach and the beautifully serene locale of Sanur. With its clean break waves and lengthy golden shore, Kuta has been a favourite among surfers since the 1970s. These days, the area is something of a tourist Mecca, offering a prime nightlife and entertainment scene in addition to its vast array ... read more

Kuala Lumpurissa oltiinkin sitten jo parin tunnin kuluttua. Ympärille piti... read more

Sorry for the long break we havnt really had a chance since leaving bali to get onto some cheap internet. Bali was fantastic and really really, really, cheap, put it this way we could get a 3 course meal with drinks for 6 quid and were not talking maccies here. When we landed in the airport we had to pay 25 us dollers to get into Indonisia and when we were leaving we had to pay another 25 to get out, cheeky or what! When we got through customs we headed for the nearest cash machine to withdraw some Bali ruppies. We put the card in the machine then all these zeros appeard and we didnt have a clue how much we needed as there money works out 18,200 to the 1 english pound (which we ... read more

Taking a short holiday out of the travelling, we flew into one of the more modern top tourist hot spots in Asia, Bali, Indonesia. Being a little lower down than our previous Asian destinations, the humidity is more bearable to unnoticeable, the mosquito level is much lower, and the weather is still damn hot. Our main goal of this stop was to chill out for a bit, relax on the beach and top up that tan!! We had been warned about the constant scamming from the Indonesians in Bali, but were still not prepared for the extremities of hassling that were inflicted on us, and all other tourists in town. Unfortunately, this has been the snowballed affect of the Al Queda bombings back in 2002 on the people of the island. Less tourists have visited Bali, ... read more

Long time no blog, but I'm back on the case again. There's a big old chapter missing but to cut a long story short I'm now in Bali. I've also just realised it's Monday morning and am savouring that knowledge. The TravelBlog site wasn't operational for days and when it reappeared all my entries had been lost in a server crash type thing. Got in a bit of a strop and refused to have anything to do with the internet for a few days after that! Mature, I know. However, we have now made our peace and thanks to a godlike techno-genius in Brum most of what was lost has been recovered and I'm trying to sort out the most recent entry which I've found the text for but don't seem to be able to upload. ... read more

Where to begin? I left home both with and without a plan. Both excited and scared. Excited to see new places, meet new people, have new experiences and at the same time scared of the unknown. What would I find on the road? How would I react to the unknown? Could I deal with adversity, the unexpected? How would people perceive me? What would they think of me? How would I perceive them? The decision to travel was an easy one. I wasn't happy with my life. There are many reasons for this, a feeling of stagnation, of being stuck, stuck in a lease, stuck in a job. I guess the best way to describe this would be stuck in a rut. I said the decision to travel was an easy one, but that was mostly ... read more

Leaving Australia was bittersweet. We were sad to see it go but excited as hell for a new adventure. Our flight from Perth to Bali was only 3 hours and was nice because of the free alcohol and the friendly Australian couple sitting next to us giving us advice. Arriving in Bali's airport was interesting in that we thought we had walked into an Asian restaurant. There was an overwhelming smell of incense and a plethora of Hindu figurines. Before we could really figure things out we were mobbed by a horde of taxi drivers yelling, "Transport!" Instead of stressing out we just hopped in a taxi and said, "Take us to Kuta beach." We figured even if we get charged a little too much it's only a matter of a buck or two. Speaking of ... read more
