For a change, this time our trip timing was entirely dictated by Anagha’s summer break from badminton coaching. This being the final year in under-13 for her, there was very little scope for us to skip the training/coaching sessions. It was only towards end of April that 1 week break was announced and we immediately looked for availability of resorts in a drivable distance (less than 1000 KMsJ). This decision was easy we have learnt to respect our agreements. We narrowed down to Yercaud based on weather conditions, availability and closeness to Bangalore. Motto was to enjoy whatever Yercaud has to offer and relax rest of the time. “There are times when you get what you like, and there are times when you have to like what you get” The broad plan – start 11th May ... read more

We decided to drive down to Yercaud in a chauffered car and expected to be there in 4 to 4.5 hours. for the first time we turned left off Bannerghatta Road to reach nice road and electronic city. we drove past to reach hosur and stopped at a local south indian restaurant for breakfast. after hosur its a marvellous highway all the way to salem. from salem we paused for directions until we started the climb upto yercaud. There were 20 hairpin bends in all and yercaud is often referred to as the poor mans ooty. past the lake we looked up to see our hotel perched on the hilltop. we checked into the grand palace hotel & spa and they had given us a ground floor room. we kept our bags and requested for a ... read more

Yercaud a quaint little hill station at 1500 mts above sea level, on the Shevaroy ranges of Tamil Nadu. Yercaud is around 200kms by road from Bangalore. Its a good urban escape.....and is clean and not much commercialized as yet. It has coffee plantations and is also known for spices. Do not expect much of sightseeing....its a small place and ideal for a two day sojourn. Do visit Montfort School, they allow visitors in the evening. Its one of the oldest School and most reputed school in South India. ... read more

We arrived in Yercaud many hours later than planned - our train was delayed by 4 hours. As we chugged our way through the wee hours of the morning, I hoped waiting at the train station until 3 a.m. was worth it. There is no worse feeling then struggling to reach a destination only to have disappointment set in. After 5 hours in the train, we hopped in a rick, zoomed across town to the bus station, climbed into the bus heading out of Salem Junction through the hills to Yercaud. After 20 hairpin bends (they were numbered so that's how I know there are 20 :)) through the winding Eastern Ghats, we finally arrived at Grange Resort. This quaint resort is made up of 13 cabins tucked inside 100 acres of orchards and coffee plantations. ... read more
