Peaceful Pondycherry Being a Bangalorean is tough... Life is not that easy, life is at light speed.. Referring to ying yang, if u find peace, next up is burden... I had my share of burden in Bangalore facing the traffic, pollution, noise. It was clearly a time for peace... So I looked up at my Bucket list and rounded off on Pondicherry which is hidden 400kms from Bangalore. I packed my bags filled the fuel and started my car... the roads are extremely good considering it India’s one of the best national highways... What was unknown about Pondicherry is it was a French territory during the colonial ruling. The French Installed a state of the art infrastructure, laneways and seaways, the architecture is like two sides of a coin. You get a glimpse of French architecture, ... read more

Route taken: Bangalore - Hosur - Krishnagiri - Thirunamallai- Tindivanam - Pondicherry. Bangalore via ORR + Sarjapur road - NH7 NH7- Hosur - Krishnagiri (Good road, 2 Tolls applicable Rs 20, Rs 50). After a 1 Km after the Krishnagiri toll, take left (sign board saying Chennai) After 500 m, take a right (sign board saying Pondicherry) onto the Pudicherry road. This is a real bad stretch (probably a post monsoon effect). Takes approx. 2 hours to get to Thirunamallai. Wish there was an alternative but it will take very long then. Thirunamallai - Tindivanam (better road) Road leading to Pondicherry from Tindivinam is very good. Totally 6.5 - 7 hours drive. Hotel : The Retreat. Recommend this to those who wish to stay in the French colony, bang on the beach. Restaurants: ------------------------------------------ Le Club ... read more

I had the privilege of visiting this place in early childhood days. Still now I remember some memories vividly.. like the visit to Aurobindo Ashram, and its various self -employment places where people got vocational training (making hankies, bedsheets, incense sticks and many more items). I remember meditating in its hall and my parents going like 'How can a child of 3 yrs can sit so quietly' :-).. many fond memories I have of this place. Now since my Sis-in-law is there, we almost visit the place once a year. We went again in Summer (May,2011).. though it is not the best time to visit as it is hot and humid. This time we planned to visit Mahabalipuram and Chunnambar beach. The first day we just strolled around in cozy little roads with French style buildings ... read more

so im quite behind in updating. sorry. so much is happening and i am quite limited in my internet access so its difficult to really keep you all abreast of the developments and magnificent experiences to which i have been privy. ill start with a caste integration day which was arranged by this incredible organisation called Village Action Group. they have set up more than 200 women's self help groups in village areas, often really remote places offering a variety of services and programs including microfinance and training and all these amazing things. so inspired. so basically on saturday one women's group hosted a function to meet with a women's group from a different caste. it was mindblowingly emotional for me. to see the sisterhood that belies any stupid division, however ingrained it might have been ... read more

no, not the hype.... it’s the real thing!! It’s a wish we wish daily. How I wish I could smell the earth in my backyard, go home to a radiant moon, sleep underneath the shimmering sky. But you want tap water and reliable power and network to give you your daily whiff of online news. “Idhar range nahi sahab,” is a big turn off. Often in India, the closer you get towards becoming one with nature the farther you go from energy and water certainties. But at Auroville you get both, and lots of surprises thrown in too… To get to Auroville’s Matramandir, which is its spiritual as well as its geographical center, you have to get off the main road connecting Chennai to Pondi at the ‘Auroville’ stop…that is, I suppose you have taken the ... read more

Sarah's friend Christine was living in Pondicherry which gave us a great reason to head East to the state of Tamil Nadu. From Mumbai, we flew to Chennai and got a driver to bring us along the coast to Pondicherry via Mamallapuram. I was getting plenty of practice haggling and I think I graduated by getting us the ride south. It took about an hour to get us to the sculpture town of Mamallapuram, where we saw some remarkable temples, sculptures and stone carver workshops. From dawn til dusk, the sound of chisels chipping at stone can be heard. A majority of granite sculptures and ornaments come from here. After an hour or so at Mamallapuram, we made our way to Pondicherry and checked in with Christine. Pondi's history as a French trading port became evident ... read more

First of all, this trip lasted me for about 2-3months... And I must say, it's full of surprises. Welcome to India! My flight 9W15 (Jet Airways) touched down in Chennai about 1040am local time. Chennai overall was a dirty, polluted, chaotic, noisy and irritating. Told myself, "Ok Han, don't get scammed, don't get too paranoid.. just take it easy boy, you're in a foreign land.. and this land is full of surprises, don't let your guard down!" Ok, so after I collected my baggage from the conveyor belt I went to the prepaid taxi counter to book a taxi to bring me to the town area. Oh wait... I didn't have Lonely Planet with me... just notes of where to go in Chennai. Counter: So where to Sir? Me: Err... Counter: ??? Me: (Suddenly thought of ... read more

Moram nastudirati do ponedeljka.
