Well, here we are..only three days into it and already it feels like we have been here for weeks. We are having a great time and coping better than expected! Tomorrow morning we train out to Agra for a few nights before moving on to our next stop. After a fantastic flight on Jet Airways (my new favourite airline: fantastic new planes, friendly staff and great food - not that it mattered since I was so zonked out on pills anyway!) we arrived in Delhi. What an arrival it is! Whoever said 'no amount of reading or watching India DVD's can prepare you for India' was certainly right. Delhi certainly has a level of poverty that blew me away and yes, on the first day I walked along the street and cried. Children shifting through garbage ... read more

Well... It's been awhile since we added to the blog. In actual time we have traveled through India, Seattle for two weeks, Mexico for our amazing wedding on the beach of San Pancho, honeymooned in Cancun, and are currently writing to you from Justices cousins home in Ipswich England. We are now married and back on track, delivering the next installment of ... Where Are They Now... Our story picks up again, leaving Nepal headed for Mumbai, India. Traveling through Delhi and on toward Mumbai we arrived weary and ready for a good nights sleep. Our first impression of Mumbai was that it was incredibly expensive, having to immediately play hardball with the taxi driver that drove us to our hotel. We nearly had to get out of the cab to get him to turn ... read more

Before coming to India I'd heard and read a lot about the culture shock westerners are susceptible to upon their first arrival in the country. I'd also seen my fair share of documentaries and pictures from India, so had a fair idea of what to expect. This coupled with my experience of travelling in other developing countries made me confident that I would smoothly make the transition to life in India. Paharganj is the area of Delhi where most of the budget travellers and backpackers stay. By all accounts it is a filthy, crowded and chaotic place, teeming with aggressive touts, salesmen and beggars. Emily has been there before and testifies that this is true. With this knowledge, I'm not sure what exactly inspired us to book a hotel room there. Probably the price, location, the ... read more

When we arrived at Mumbai airport 4 months ago despite all the horror stories (yes they are all true) we felt excited, and were ready for the challange yet were very nervous............ Now 4 months on so much learnt about all kinds of stuff, REAL suffering, struggle, poverty, religion, history, ancient architecture, the list goes on - I've learn't more in 4 months about all these things and more, than I did in all my school years!! We now walk the indian walk and talk the talk - in two Languages !.......We feel a part of India now and are sad to leave. Ha ha and we done all this with our guts still intact!! So many unforgetable expiriences and so many we can't wait to forget, probably the worst being a recently deceased suicider laying ... read more

Delhi was an interesting place! We were a bit shocked at first. We were greeted in a hot, run-down airport, with dirt roads, tons of traffic, and carbon monoxide. Ugh! When we got to our hotel, we were surprised to be dodging the cows as we drove up the street. We settled in to our very modest hotel and slept the night away. At 6am we woke up and decided we would head to the Taj Majal. The Taj is actually a 2.5-hour train trip or 5-hour bus trip out of Delhi. The train was sold out, so we were left little choice but to rent a somewhat expensive car and driver to see the sights. We left Delhi around 6:30 am. The trip was very interesting and we saw many sights along the way. One ... read more

On Tuesday, our second day in Delhi, Christine wanted to head to the local Missionaries of Charity, our chosen charity. We had originally decided to do all our work in Calcutta, but with us being in various locations, we thought it would be good to go ahead and start the work and donations! After consulting a guidebook, we knew there was a local orphanage that was supported by Mother Theresa's charity. We headed there. On the way, we were approached by a young man wanting to practice his English. (This is not unusual--it is happening to us everywhere!) With persistence as a cultural value here, he followed us a long ways and talked with us. He actually knew of the street and the orphanage, so we headed there together. It was actually good to have him ... read more
