Himachal Pradesh June 2017 “I am not the mind. I am neither intelligence nor egoism. I am the joy of intelligence. I am Shiva, I am Shiva.” Adi Sankara And so.... I have wanted to return to Spiti Valley again after first visiting there together with my mate Mark on our Royal Enfield motorcycles in 2010. There were places I just fancied spending more time in... and new places also. I live in a rented house in Inner Seraj Valley... just 6 km before Jalorie Pass in Kullu District of Himachal Pradesh. A great 'take off' point for Spiti, which I figured would take me just two days riding north to reach, approaching from the eastern side of Himachal via Rampur and returning via Manali on the western side (or more in the middle of Himchal). ... read more

The only Himalayan valley that truly characterizes the Switzerland of India epithet, among all those raved about with this hyperbole, is Sangla valley in Kinnaur. Carved out by sparkling Baspa river, it has ethereal contrasting combination of the right bank view of saw-tooth sharp, high, rocky mountains, cradling villages and houses; and the gentle lush green, rich pine and birch forest covered, mountains on the left bank. Discovering Sangla, the Himalayan high valley of amazing forms, in the far out tributary valley of mighty Satluj, the land of culture rich Kinnaur folks, doesn’t take more than a day long car, jeep or bus journey from Delhi, through Chandigarh, Shimla, Rampur, Jeori, Karchham. Beginning from New Delhi on the national highway 1 to reach Chandigarh; and taking national highway 22 to reach Shimla; and further on the ... read more

Mixed thoughts and emotions swirling around as i was sitting in the Delhi-bound flight to undertake my second Himalayan trekking expedition to Rupin Pass with Indiahikes. My first one being Sandakphu trekking expedition with YHAI in Dec 2013. I landed in Delhi on June 6th, 8.30 PM and was welcomed by 43 degree Celsius mercury level. My respect for Chennai increased after facing the near-furnace level heat of Delhi. I met with my good friend Kuttu in the airport, who has done Rupin pass in Oct 2013. Then I reached NDLS to catch the overnight train to Dehradun. I met another trekker from Kolkata who was undertaking a trek in Uttarkashi. Then I got to catch up with some of my trek mates before boarding the train. As much as I wanted to catch some good ... read more

There’s some thing very peculiarly special about the Himalayas... some thing very divine... and in my recent trip to the Himalyas... I felt the divine the power of nature that can mesmerize one's soul... now I understand why lord Shiva chose Kailasha Parvata as his abode. Sarahan 6 hrs drive from Shimla, is located at Sutlej valley at Kinnaur-shimla border is a must visit for all Himalyan lovers and trekkers. The drive is little exhaustive and excruciating especially shimla narkanda route, but the views compensate for the painful ride. Magnificent view of snow clad mountains and the green forestry gives the tantalizing effect to one's eyes and soul. But the bumpy roads ( shimla-narkanda-shimla) won’t let you stay mesmerized for a long. While on the drive you move via Kufri, Fagu. These places are worth for ... read more

Takze Kalpa.. Kazdopadne to nakoniec zvladol az do ciela v Peo, co je take neutulne mestecko obklopene horami a odtial sme zobrali bus do Kalpy. Prvy den sme hned ... read more

Krishan - "I too am a follower of Jesus." I entered into the Kinnaur Region of Himachal Pradesh with serious doubts about the possbililty of actually meeting any Christians. There is a church in Winston-Salem that has been touched by the evangelistical needs of Kinnaur and contacted a mission organizaton called Answering the Call who specializes in mobilizing nationl Christians in the most unreached areas of this world. Through a mutual friend I was introduced to the directon of ATC just two days before he set out to Kinnaur with the hopes of finding a strong Christian body who they can empower to do a great work. Unfortunately, and quite shockingly, he returned without hearing even a rumor of a Christian soul. Perhaps I should mention that Kinnaur consists of 70,000, yes 70,000, people who take ... read more

Narzyan told me with simplicity, "I didn't have any money, but I had to do what I could." If yiou are wondering...what he has done in 6 years is the following baptize hundreds, plant dozens of house churches throughout Kinnaur, found the only Christian school in all of the district, found a children's home, and sent 3 leaders off to Christian training colleges. Yes, all this was accomplished without any outside support, only by little profits provided by his family's humble apple orchard. Narzyan grew up in a Buddhist family and in a remote buddhist village. At age 16 he happened to read a small article about Jesus. His interest was peaked and he sent off for a Bible. He told me that he only anticipated learning some philosphy about life - good theories. Instead, after ... read more

We left the Baspa River valley and headed back along the mighty Sutlej River once again. Still amazing mountain views - I guess we will have similar views now for the rest of the trip. We wound our way along the river bank, through some very high gorges and above some very high gorges. Up and down all morning, once again passing dam construction sites and roadworks. Again many young women with babys on their backs breaking up rocks to build the roads. Very sad to see. The tent villages had all the older children ln them doing the daily chores, including looking after the younger children whilst their parents worked. They always cheerfully waved to us as we drove past. We stopped at Reckong Peo, the principle town of the Kinnaur region. It was still ... read more
