Well I guess the downside to the whole business trip thing is that I'm actually here to work. So pretty much since Tuesday I've just been working, even today! However tomorrow is Sunday and I've got the day off to explore! Whooooo! But first, I have to apologise to everyone who I haven't emailed back. I'll try reply to you all personally tomorrow - I really love getting your emails, I've just been so exhausted after work all I want to do is go to bed! So I called a lady who is somehow linked in with a christian organisation over here and she's given me directions for a place where I can go to church tomorrow. The service is at 9am so I'll have to get up much earlier than I'd usually like for a ... read more

So here I am in India. The remainder of the flight was pretty uneventful, which is probably not a bad thing! I arrived at Hyderabad airport and found there was no customs check at all which surprised me, especially considering the article that was on the front page of the paper this morning. As promised, there was a driver from the hotel ready to meet me, with my name on a board. I was really quite pleased he was there because there was an enormous crowd outside the door of the airport, held back by barricades. I guess they must have heard that I was coming! The hotel is quite nice, I have a very picturesque view of the construction site below my window. I guess the lake view goes to people who take the more ... read more

As usual my ever supportive friends arranged another trip for me. This time to a nearby tourist spot called Nagarjuna sagar notorious for crocodile infestation. I was all excited to catch some crocs in action after my failed attempts near Manjira River last month. Bundled up everything I could call outdoor gear in my back pack and headed out on to the road with Nikhil, Abhinav and his soon to be fiancée Deepika - all classmates from college. It all started off as anything but an adventure trip. Guzzling down beer, smokin the car up, blasting the living heavens off a boom-box and scandalizing all the villages we pass through it was more like how Priya aptly put it "Picnic"!! The drive from Hyderabad took us about 2 hours. Luckily we were all sober enough to ... read more

Well the trip to horsley hills is taking a little too long to materialize so I went out in search of other option. This time to Manjira Crocodile Sanctuary in Medak, except I did not manage to reach there at all due to miscellaneous reasons. But I did see a lot of stuff like the Medak Church, apparently a joint venture between French and English colonials in 1927!!!! It's a through and through Gothic church standing 175 feet tall and the story goes that all the materials used in the construction have been imported from France while the rest of the world was fighting its First World War. Its quite a thing to see in such a sad town (as in boring). All in all it looks like a miniature Frankfurt Church only more inaccessible. ... read more

Hydrabad, the city of Pearls, is also the capital of Andhra Pradesh. It is my first time in this state and probably my only stop. I'm still travelling with my lovely travelmate, Donna. we reached the city by bus, coming from Bijapur. A night trip of almost 10 hours in a semi sleepers, which means " sleeping and sitting in one, no space for my legs and seats to small to move". It was an exhausted trip... We are planning to stay a little bit longer in this city. My first impression is really positive. We found a shopping mall near our hotel, the receptionist of the hotel is lovely and the people are really friendly, so far a good start... There is also much to see in this "capital" and the atmosphere is relaxed, but ... read more

While for about four months now I have often complained about India, for example the noise, the smells, or stepping in cow dung on my way to the bus everyday--now that I'm leaving I know I am going to miss being here. The last couple of weeks I have tried to see as much of Hyderabad as I could, and I toured Golconda Fort, the Birla Mandir Temple, the numerous palaces of the Old City, attended my first Hindu wedding, and much more. So, instead of me rambling on I will simply leave you with some cool photos. ... read more
