Jan 6/ 2007 Well well well....look who it is Lets start this little blog off with a personal insight into something I have discovered while in Hong Kong.... the air is made out of one part diseal... one part oxygen... and one park peper spray.... enough said for how my eyes and lungs felt while here... But with that said, I am happy to say that I am in love with Hong Kong... definetly one of my fav cities in the world...almost beating out Paris. This place is alive 24/7, which is perfect for me as small town often bore me (See Guelph, Ontario). The shops here number in the BILLIONS and if you ever needed to obtain a piece of an endangered species, heres the place to find it...and if required..eat it. We (my parents ... read more

Hello people of the miserable England!! This is the last day of being in Hong-Kong and we all feel it has been anough and just the right time to leave for Australia.....But today we are heading up to the Big Budda(?!) which i am really looking forward but we have to walk up many many steps! Yesterday Rob, Mum's friend from collage(i think!) took us on a walk with his kids up a steep moutain... If Kathryn hadden of worn her silver silver shoes we would have gone on an even steeper walk! It was very hot that day so luckily i brought some of my FCUK cool down wipes with me! We went to a market yesterday and i brought a bracelet/anglet and a bag! Yesterday had a fab chinese meal, it was packet full ... read more

10am and we’re out the door - yes - even Jay!! Somehow we’ve all managed to shrug off our hangovers and we cruise across the skybridge to have some breakfast at a little French bakery (DeliFrance) nearby. Yummmm croquet monsiuere (sp?) Jump on the MTR - two connections and three trains later we’re in the north of HK at Sha-Tin Station. Today’s destination is the Monastery of 10,000 Buddhas. It should be called the monastery of 10,000 steps because that’s what over 400 steps feels like.. yes mom I climbed over 400 steps - be proud of me!!! The steps are lined with big life-sized buddhas…the plaster being adorned in a bright gold color. Each one is in a different position with a different face - pretty amazing. I’m wondering why they call it the Monastery ... read more

Hello peeps, We have just returned from our first full day in Hong Kong and I am completely pooped! We have spent the first day around Victoria Peak, a mountain (or maybe just a large hill?) overlooking HK with absolutely amazing views. The buildings here are something else - they are huge and the city is so colourful and busy. The hotel we are staying in is really nice too - we are getting a bit spoilt really (complimentry cocktails, fluffy bathrobes and chocolate - what more could I ask for!!) As Yasmin said we are trying not get used to this luxury as I dont think we will have chocolates left on our pillow when we are travelling in the spaceship somehow. Happy New Year 2007 to you all. Love Kathryn xxx ... read more

Day 207, 24th December Hong Kong Scott and Nick had sobered up somewhat and were apologetic for their behaviour last night. We got our Chinese visas through from Mr Chan’s daughter, then went shopping and email checking. At the ‘Poste Restante’ department of the post office, I picked up a Christmas card from my parents and a letter from Kathryn with some photos inside. Went over to Hong Kong island on the Star Ferry with Rory to check out the Vietnamese embassy and returned on the MTR. Seems it will be no probs getting visas. We checked email again and saw we had one from Tobes who had shacked-up with a bird in Shenzhen, he’ll be arriving in HK sometime later today with juicy stories, I suppose? In the evening, the streets in Kowloon were closed ... read more

Hello everyone I hope you are enjoying England as I am certainly enjoying Hong-Kong! It is a bit wierd with very very very high and a little tatty apartment blocks! Also the scafolding here is made out of bamboo so it doesn't look very stable but aparently it is, it's a bit scary really and the outside pool, which is on top of the hotel,is right next to it so the building might fall on us, which everyone else doubts! The room is quite posh, well for us any way(!) (Mum says we shouldn't get use to it!!!!). All of Hong-Kong is really exciting too. At noght all the streets are buzzing wth people and the roads are lit up with flashing lights and massive moving board, or w.e they are! Weather is really good and ... read more

Hey all, So, it's a little overdue (we are in Shanghai now) but here are some pictures of our first couple of days in Hong Kong. The internet was down in Hong Kong because of the cables that were destroyed when that earthquake hit the coast of Taiwan a week or so back. But it seems to be okay here in Shanghai, which is good. We're not gonna upload all the pictures, since we've taken so many... just the "best". Basically, Hong Kong started off horribly... we got off the bus on the wrong stop and arrived late to our hostel; we then got moved to this dingy hostel in a back alley where the only window in the room looked out into sewage traps and pipes. But it wasn't long before things picked up - ... read more

I applogize for not blogging sooner about Hong Kong, but last week was a blur after only 3 days of school then heading off again to Taipei for New Years. the trip to hong kong was our Christmas break, since our schools do not give us Christmas off we took off Monday and Tuesday so we could have some fun! I met Mary at the airport in Hong Kong then we headed to our hostel. HA the hostel was scary and funny all at the same time. We stayed at the infamous Chungking Mansions. There were are a ton of creepy men hanging around front asking if you need a room or something, we were like no we have a room. We stayed at the Hong Kong backpackes hostel and we were pleasantly surpised with our ... read more

Day 205, 22nd December Tangxia - Shenzhen - HONG KONG - Lo Wu - Tai Mo Shan Today we cycle into Hong Kong after pedaling 2,200 miles southwards from the Mongolian border. We woke with high spirits, packed our bikes, said “Bye” to the secret policeman at our door, and were on the road to Shenzhen at eight. We had a brief breakfast stop and were crossing the border into the ‘Shenzhen Special Economic Zone’ at ten. I was surprised to see that the SEZ was sealed off from the reast of China by an electric fence and guarded by watchtowers. It was no problem for us to pass, though. We followed a coastal road into the city and met a Malaysian cyclist who guided us to the road border crossing into Hong Kong. There were ... read more
