(for some reason, my blog can't go on 1 blog so I have had to do it over 2??!!!) So, when we were reaching the last couple of sections of the wall, I think I may have looked tired and worn out as the people selling wooden toys and water (yes, in the middle of nowhere selling!!) offered me to sit with them and have a drink of water but by this time, if I had stopped I do not think my feet would go again so I kept on moving!! But we made it to the end, it took us 3 hours! At the bottom and the end of the wall , there was a lovely man selling the best ice lollies I have ever tasted!! It wasn't a sunny day but it was really ... read more

We all have those little lists of things we would like to do in life......ours to name a few are to travel to new and far places, take a helicopter ride over Cape Town in South Africa, Go on a game drive and see "The Big Five" animals in the wild, ride an elephant, swim over the edge of the reef in the Maldives (well I almost got to the edge, fear wouldn't let me go over!!) and to walk along The Great Wall in China......... You never know what tomorrow will bring in life so our motto is to live for today and achieve all you can, never look back and say oh I wish I had done........!! So, another tick off of our list.....

I had Finally arrived in Shanghai, China- my first port of call. I was off on an adventure of a life time, which would turn out to only be the start of my travels. It is true, you catch a ‘bug’- the travel bug. I still remember the extremely unpleasant feeling I felt on the flight from Melbourne, Australia. It was a feeling of nervousness, nausea, anxiety and overall depressed. But why would I feel like this? I was about to meet up with my cousin, my best friend Lou in Shanghai ,China. I started to cry sitting there in my seat on the plane, refusing the food- I couldn’t eat. I felt like vomiting. What was I doing? I had Just left my family, my job, My new to the world little niece who ... read more

Yesterday I needed to check out of the hostel I have been staying at and make my way to the vodkatrain hotel near the city square. Rather than paying for a taxi, my hip pocket convinces me to take the subway then walk. With two back packs and sore feet it's just a little uncomfortable and slightly inconvenient. However it was definitely worth it as I experienced quite a few touching gestures from some of the locals. Firstly while I was at one of the subway stations my shoe became untied, this was pointed out to me by about four people and whilst standing on of the trains a man who could tell I couldn't do it up on with my pack on reached down and did it for me. Unfortunately it came undone about fifteen ... read more

So to the most exciting day of my travels - a visit to the Great Wall of China! This iconic structure is so well known it hardly needs any explanation but here's my bit of potted history to fill in any gaps. The Great Wall of China - or the 'Long Wall of Ten Thousand Li' was first started in the 3rd century BC when disparate earthern ramparts were constructed by individual states. Under Qin Shi Huangdi's unification of China (the guy of Terracotta Army fame) the Great Wall was created through joining up the previously built ramparts. Construction continued right up until the Ming dynasty in the 17th century AD. This huge defensive military project undertaken by successive Chinese Empires, with a total length of more than 20,000 km or 13,000 miles, starts in the ... read more
