After being woken up by that bloody cockerel again we were up and ready for the day trip to Kakku. We had asked about doing a shared trip but were told there wouldn't be enough room in the car, oh well it's just us again. We drove up into the hills and arrived at Taunggyi, a large town which is spread over a plateau on the hill top. Here we had to stop and pay the fee to visit the site of Kakku and the fee for the obligatory Pa O guide who then joined us in the car. Our guide was a lovely lad called Tun Tun, he was dressed in traditional Pa O clothing complete with a colourful scarf tied round his head and is a 4th year (final year) university student. He is ... read more

... read more

What a wonderful day . It was a chilly morning I'd guess @12 C . Breakfast on the terrace at the hotel had everyone reaching for the thermos of coffee . The steam was rising from our eggs , our mouths and cups as well . I put on socks! and the black pants I wore leaving Canada! What a change!!! We had booked our boat , a 15Meter long speed(?) boat , the night before for 8:30 am to 6 pm. for $40 . A bit high I think but the convenience of doing it at the hotel is worth something. Heading out on the 4 km channel to the lake was chilly indeed . My jacket and socks over my sweater and a silk scarf was a welcome addition . The journey was interesting ... read more

To continue where I left of - I took an overnight (understand arriving early morning 3am) bus to Taunggyi but somehow persuaded the driver to drop me off in Shwenyuang. The bus I took looked more like the one I expected before. During the travel I had to make up a boyfriend because one eager young boy wanted to chat with me but spoke little English and kept repeating if I was single. As expected I arrived in the middle of the night this time I was set not to take an overpriced taxi and wait to share or for pick up. I order green tea to keep me awake and was ready to camp. 5minutes later another bus stopped almost running over some of the taxi drivers who were standing around and eager Japanese stepped ... read more

Today was a fantastic day! Our night in the Lucky Bright Hotel was quiet and the breakfast they served was big and delicious. We booked a driver and his boat to take us around Inle Lake for the day. Our boat was 14 000 Kyat for 5 people - just under $20 dollars. The boat itself was super comfortable. We had huge chairs with cushions on the seats and blankets to keep us warm. It was really chilly on the lake in the morning so the blankets were really useful! To start the day we drove almost an hour from Nyaungshwe to the south end of the lake. On our way we saw fisherman net fishing. The fisherman on Inle Lake are known for their distinctive rowing style. This involves standing at the back of the ... read more
