Monday 1st March Another early start, up at 7.30am for breakfast and pitch side for 9.00am. We started coaching a very respectable 24 and by 11.00am we had a wonderful number of 220 enthusiastic children, all willing and ready to play, good times. Batting, bowling and fielding were all undertaken, with catch- phrases such as “catches win matches and cricket is the winner”. The session finished about 1.00pm where we headed back to our accommodation to gather our stuff as we were off to tour one of the Soft power education schools, Nakanyonyi Primary, that Sharon had organised for us to see. It was a wonderful experience, which allowed us to see the great work that has been undertaken by the organisation. One of the classes we saw was packed with 128 children, while two class ... read more

With yesterday having been such a great success for all involved, a lot of planning along with some lengthy discussions went into ensuring today’s kwik cricket competition followed in the same positive footsteps. The day began in a more eventful way than previous mornings, starting with a meeting in the dining area consisting of delegates from different aid supplying organisations/charities and members of the Ugandan army in relation to the devastating landslide. News came alongside this of today’s main man, Richard and his antics during the night, consisting of heavy drinking with an old friend of his and Uganda’s funniest man John Mayeku, as a result of which Richard had got no sleep at all after returning from Mbale’s finest watering holes at 5am. With both John and Richard in a pretty hilarious state we ... read more

The answer is simple. Rafting the source of the Nile may actually be better then sex....but for sure being in love and making love will always be the best activity on earth! Smile! After Cairo and the Nile views from my terrace...I headed for a short three hours flight to Entebbe, Uganda. This is one new country for my count. Landed at Entebbe at 4am, only 2 hours sleep, one more hour sleep in a bed at my guesthouse...and ready for a one hour drive to Kampala to meet the shuttle to Jinja. Jinja is 90 minutes drive from Kampala, a 80km east of the city. Jinja is the city that lies at the Source of the Nile. The issue seems to be controversial to where exactly are the sources. But it seems that we could ... read more

Sunday 28th February 2010 The day started with a 7.30 meet in the restaurant, for breakfast and a meeting about the day’s events. Looking around the table you could see that everybody was itching with excitement to start the coaching. The coaching was meant to start at 9.00 but in Africa it seems nothing ever happens on time, so we started at nearly 10.00. The coaching was held nearby to the hotel at Jinja S.S cricket ground, it was only a 10 minute walk. When we arrived we were unsure of the number of children that would be participating, it later turned out to be an amazing seventy six. The children were from local primary schools - Budondo, Buyala St Pauls, Kivabuke and Buwagi. These four schools are part of the Soft Power Education (SPE) scheme, ... read more

Jan 26 Day 11 Today we had a early wake up for what was suppsed to be a 9 or so hour dive but it turned out to be a 14 hour day with a few short stops. It was Ozzie day so we all painted our faces and played Ozzie music all day. It was also Kathy birthday so when we finally made it back to Jinja we decided to buy dinner on he deck overlooking the Nile. It was very nice. After dinner Paul Maydeena and Kathy did a few intresting shots one was called the giraff where you put the shot on the floor and then have to take it with out using you hands or gettig on your knees. Then they did a crocodile where they laid on their back and had ... read more

Jan 20  Day 5 Today we had our white waterrafing excursion. I was bummed about not wearig contacts but not worth messing with my eyes yet. Can't wait for LASIK. Any way we had a great breaky then headed off to have another with the rafting group. Then we had a short drive to the river.  Our boat was the 2 Ozzie girls 2 guys we meet last night, 2 uk chicks and myelsf. Our raft guide Nathan was very good and through. I was very impressed. We entered the Nile at a very mellow slow moving area so we were able to do all the drills and pratice flipping and everythig.  It was the most hand on teaching I have ever seen. Once we went through all of that it as game on. First rapid ... read more

Jan 19 Day 4 Today was our soft power voulenteer group day.  It was really cool and inspiring. They took us to one their base near town where we got a small tour/orientation of the organization. It was really amazing. We all bought some things from their craft/arts shop. Then we hopped on a truck and went on the other side of town to help paint some schools. It wasn't easy painting though becaue the brushes were just stubs and the cement wasn't smooth it was really bumpy and textured. So we basically had to stamp the paint into the cement and it was so watery that most of it ended up on the ground. We had a small lunch out there some plain maze but some awesome sweet potatoes and decent spinach dish.  When we ... read more

Jan 18  Day 3 So today we are headed to Uganda to a town called Jinja It shouldn't be to long of a drive a d hopefully the border crossing goes well. Well me made it fine the border crossing was pretty smooth. We got VIP accesss to pass all the commuter trucks. Kathy said they sometimes wait up to 2 weeks to cross the border because of paper work. We went through pretty smoothly. We did have to wait for Patrick our driver to get the stamp for the truck but it was because he had to hop on a taxi to go to town to find the offical to get the stamp, pretty ridiclous. But after that it was smooth sailing. Well as smooth as you can be on bumpy African roads. Haha Maydeena ... read more
